Why do you think players leaving Coronet are going to B/Redan? I mean, from a few years back chance could have it they can go to any club (maybe excluding darly) but they have just about all gone to B/redan. Weird.

Good club good facilitys and all the guys are pretty good about welcoming old enemys into the place....

I think one or two former players who are now at Ballarat Redan who are mates with current players have been getting in their ears. Kind of started a domino effect.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

just off the topic a little bit. heard today that s.giblett has no intentions of going to north. that was where he originally came from so why would he want to go back? also heard that hoppy may be a chance to play at the hill this year.

i understand they are are rumours, they arent fact, just reporting what i heard.

so what just put it on everybody that previously played at coronet and now plays at Ballarat Redan

I wasn't trying to target anybody when i said that. I was just asked for a reason. Its likely that when mates talk to other mates they might try and convince them to change clubs. Example Sculley and Birkett lived next door to each other for a number of years.

Well just to be truthful... Burkey told me he was thinking of leaving and then I told Mark who knew nothing about it before I told him...

ok well its just an example. They have definately discussed it together at some stage. The point I am trying to make is that there are a few connections at ballarat redan and that's most likely why players from our club would choose to go there over other clubs. i am not saying ballarat redan are targeting our club in any way it has just turned out that way becuase players always follow their mates.

Which is exactly why we left and went there... Dylan thompson leaving would be a surprise if it does happen...

I am a close relative of a member of the combine. I dont play, just follow the progress of B/redan and the BCA in general. Just thought it was interesting to see these Coronet players all gravatating to the one club.

Wouldnt worry Napisan as the B.C.A. wont let a mass exodus happen for 08/09 ....................although i think you are lucky there isnt a viable option looking to come into the B.C.A. as a replacement club. If there was, then unfortunately i think its just about game over for Coronet regardless of any guarantees given by the BCA - simply because there just isnt any sign of life in the juniors whatsoever, and there just isnt anything to indicate the slide can be turned around in the medium term.......and if blokes like big Thommo and Haylesy want to leave who are genuine corra blokes - then thats a fair indication that its just about game over for the Corras.

The BCA let three guys leave and go to the one club last year on appeal and if the club have no reason to block it then they could lose a few...

It has just about been game over for the club for a while now they lost about 50 years of cricket experience in just the three guys that went to Redan last year...

Why don’t the BCA push out Coronet if they're as weak as you guys are saying (no disrespect meant) and perhaps move on Darley make it an 8 team comp play each other once in a 2 dayer and once in a 1 dayer, be more even, the good Coronet & Darly players would disperse making it a stronger comp. Make it compulsory to play 20/20 in a play each other once comp then a knock out Final 8, might even get those spectators along to watch.

Who will be the 10 captains's this year?

I don't think that having a compulsory twenty20 comp would be a good idea. All it is, is a bit of hit and giggle. As a batsman it is a good way to get flaws in your technique, and as a bowler you are on a hiding to nothing with batsmen going hell for leather.

If they want to have twenty20 keep it as it is now, those who want to play can and those who don't want to don't. From watching the games over the last couple of years while there where a few people watching the game it mainly consisted of players from the club who were not playing so they are not getting anyone new watching the cricket.

Why push out coronet and dont get me started on Darley CC's proud history. We aren't going anywhere and love playing BCA cricket. With a couple of very good cricket recruits signed at the lions den already (and training) this year the mighty lions are turning things around. With 5 years in the league we know what to expect and ready to roar.

With Steenholdt (premier cricket), Herring (Vic Country u/21), Barber (England) & Cape (premier cricket) you have genuine match winners and then parker, dawson, blake would all be firmly entrenched in other sides and very good country cricketers. Throw in a couple of recruits coming to the club and the depth is now there.

Start doing your homework boys because it isnt going to be an easy trip down the freeway anymore. Then we might really here people start sooking like ballarat redan beacuse they cant get the points.

2008/09 - The awakening of the lion.
