Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Yater would have to be a $1-05 favourite to make it 3 in a row this weekend if they get on????

Irv's should be due to fire too!

Could be long day chasing leather for the clown caps on the small grammer ground.....weather permitting of course...

Darley in thrilling struggle

DARLEY and Napoleons-Sebastopol are locked in a titanic struggle in the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts competition.
Darley needs only five runs to claim first innings points with two wickets in hand.

Napoleons-Sebastopol was on the ropes after being dismissed for 114 at Darley on Saturday, but struck back hard to have the ladder leader 8-110 by stumps.

Matthew Cape was the best of the batsmen for the day, with the Darley middle order stalwart reaching 35 (five fours).

Four bowlers claimed three wickets or more - Darley's Brett Walker 4-40, Andrew Pickett 3-24 and Peter Moore 3-41, and Napoleons-Sebastopol's Jacob Branch 3-24 as the visitors' attack spread around the damage.

Darley captain Allan Steenholdt signalled there might be some help for the seamers in the wicket when he sent Napoleons-Sebastopol in.

Despite this David Sproules, 28, and Peter Guy, 17, began the day with some normality as they put on 32 runs in even time.

From there it was carnage for the batsmen.

Chris Banwell made 23, but his dismissal sparked the biggest crash of day.

Napoleons-Sebastopol lost four wickets for four runs to be 8-85. Three of the wickets fell at this total.

Tyler Dittloff provided some late resistance to get 27 and looked like it might be the effort to secure first innings points for Napoleons-Sebastopol when Darley lost 3-2 to be 6-70.

Already having done the job with ball, Walker again stepped up.

Having made the most of the only chance given in the field all day when Darley was 8-100, he is unbeaten on 19 and has been the key architect in a ninth wicket stand of 16.

Napoleons-Sebastopol captain Darren Leech said it was a wicket on which batsmen were never settled.

"You could have 20 and you still wouldn't be set," he said.

"You were never going to get a big total."

Leech said even after struggling with the bat, Napoleons-Sebastopol never felt out of it.

And this was the way play panned out.

This is the second round in a row Darley has been caught up in a thriller, having beaten Wendouree by one run.

If they can read it here, then we can presume they have the internet. Surely that means they could look up The Courier's website ???

fair enough boys i wont post anything from the courier website anymore. No need to highlight that paragraph either polecat. 35 isnt worth bragging about.

Our pom was a young weak ******** as most of them are. He missed his mum holding his hand all the time. The bloke could bat though. Not much more the club could have done for him in regards to free accommodation, cash paying job and showing him around the place. They just dont have the ticker that aussie guys have.

mike wonders what is it about darley and free accommodation and cash paying jobs. is that how they enticed peter moore down to the boondocks? he'd say it is. no doubt! mike wonders are there any other clubs out there that pay players in the form of accomodation and jobs. north maybe? not many. how did wendouree get rhys cahir over there? surely not on the promise he could bowl 3rd change in the firsts?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

good call mike about cahir. the other interestijng point must be. leechy if that wicket was so bad on saturday. why on sunday was there 400+ runs scored on it. i thought it was terrible batting from your mob. then we batted worse. nothing bad meant there by the way just the truth.
the other thing must be said that the umpiring was a little suspect 4 both teams
whats gunna hapen when you miss next week when tommo gets 2 or 3 match ban.
who will captain naps. surely tommo will be suspended.there was a lot of kids around from our juniors that sets a bad example. if that was a darley player he would get 2 or 3 weeks from the bca and 2 weeks from the club.
all the best for the rest of the game may the best team win.

I couldnt work out why we played against Lachie Herring in the seconds this week. Whilst he wouldnt say my spies at Darley Park state it was becuase he wore the wrong shorts to training. Surely not ??? I think whoever is responsible for that ruling out to join the Pommy out of the country. That is madness surely ??

welcome out from behind the curtains, that wasnt so hard was it?

happy to respond now.

yep, thommos reaction was disappointing. the umpires spoke to thommo & myself at tea & the matter has been resolved to their satisfaction. what happens between thommo & the club will stay behind closed doors.

as for the deck, i never stated that it was a bad one. i just said it was a deck that even if you got to 20, you still werent set. i think the fact that 3 of our blokes & only 1 of yours got to 20 odd but & got out either knicking it behind or getting bowled, all off defensive shots, proves that.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Thommo was very stiff to be given out and if he got reported for it as well would have been worse. Was an awesome dummy spit though...

As per previous comments in earlier posts the captain (leechy) had no control over the incident whatsoever and would still have his name tarnished if the report was made which is thoroughly unfair.

I think rain will play a fair part in tomorrow's results

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Well it was hardly glorious cricket from either side down in Darley over the weekend, and the weather did prove to be the deciding factor, however there was one incredible feat. The bus trip back from Darley saw the breaking of Jezza's 8 stubbie record. David Sproules has now raised the bar to 9 bus stubbies. To make this a little more impressive were the 2 cans he had in quick time before getting on the bus, and at least 4 pots at the pub (good effort for a bloke who wasnt meant to be drinking...). For those of you having to make the trip down the highway, and wishing to become a part of BCA history, the rules are simple: drink only stubbies, drink only on the bus while it is moving. Best of luck, and if you read this at all inzy, congratulations.

CHRIST!!!! What an effort. Is this competition open to all grades? Our twos and fours will be down there this week and next and there are a few smokies in amongst them. I'll fire up a fella in our twos named Adam Sands. He is a big chance.

By all means, as long as its on the bus, and only when the bus is moving...we'll make it an annual event and award the winner
