Greetings from over here a little jet lagged but had a bit of time to kill before meeting with the financiers and the trusty laptop was able to fire up trouble free.

Uncle Mick,

Nice to see my impeccable sources are as good as usual but I still want to see that flashing neon sign on the the front of the new improved web page...

Uncle Mick web Master

On the rise,

Another new comer but unless you have delved back into long ago posts there has been no love hate relationship for quite some time.

Could someone please tell you know who that the alphabet as reported here some time ago has moved on for more cabbage alledgely!

Bottsy thought we might have had some reply by now about the young colt from old oasis town but we are patient for you to fill us in.

Merl's had a bit of experience following this new t20 concept and have actually scored for a northern suburbs team and with daylight saving and reasonable skies have usually been able to consume the last of the 6 pack before darkness and the last ball have been bowled.

Until I am back in the land of OZ..................................Merlot

Old Merl could you please decipher this sentence for me as i would like to be on the same page as you :)

Hopefully your band of merry men don't jump all over me for this one no ill intent in my question.

Enjoy your time overseas hope all goes well & many safe returns.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Interesting post on the ANA website (below). I wonder how the long serving die hards at West Bentleigh, the same players that got them to a Woolnough Flag and two Longy Grand Final appearances would be feeling with all the cash flying around? They are now officially the Real Madrid of the CMCA. For the record the CMCA rules concerning professional players allows two players per club plus a coach to be paid, so they have not breached any rules.

Ashley Bott is definitely back at Moorabbin West this season leaving a massive hole in Mackie's bowliong attack. West Bentleigh likely to snare Marshall Bunting from Elwood for at least $7k (allegedly), after securing Con Pothitos from Brighton Union for $12k (allegedly). All this after Danny Frew who is there for at least $6k (allegedly). Salary cap issues must be looked into as West Bentleigh are waving the check book around to anyone who is prepared to have a chat with them.

Clocker Flag Odds:12/8/2009

East Sandringham: 2/1
West Bentleigh:3/1
Bentleigh Uniting & Brighton Union: 5/1
Bentleigh ANA: 15/1
Mackie: 20/1
Omega, Le Page 25/1
Elwood, Carnegie South, Kingston Heath, Washington Park 50/1

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Clocker - your comment about player payments is not quite correct. CMCA rules allow 2 paid players plus paid non-playing coaches.

If the coach does not play then they have not breached the laws. If he plays and the other 2 play as well, then it is a different story and one of the players would be deemed ineligible and therefore they would forfeit the points.Supposition is one thing, definitive proof is another and therein lies the problem. If the Executive were serious they would obtain a list of all professional players and then make each club President sign a statutory declaration to the effect that there are no other players being paid. If a club and their President is found to have breached the rule they would be punished accordingly ie loss of points, suspension, fines, jailed, drawn and quartered etc.
This is definetely one that will go into the too hard basket.
A person who willfully makes a false statement in a statutory declaration under the Statutory Declarations Act 1959 as amended is guilty of an offence against that Act, the punishment for which is a fine not exceeding $200 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both if the offence is prosecuted summarily, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding four years if the offence is prosecuted upon indictment.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

what is park cricket coming to when you have people saying lets sign stat decs and throw the president of a local cricket side in jail, simply because they have the cash to pay 3 players?

salary cap is a good idea. 15 grand + bonuses (100's, 5 fors) should be the most it can go up to. less for woolnough.
we want a level playing field for the comp. and hopefully the day comes when the mackies and the hampton centrals can get back to the top of the comp.
cant have all these chequebook cowboys running around ruining the cmca

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

I have it on very good authority that the figures being quoted on here are somewhat inflated.
Add Clement and Coles to the list of players being chased by the Sky Blues.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Well said Clint.

Just thinking 15K is pretty high, not to many clubs in the CMCA can afford that and begs the question with West Bentleigh how long can they sustain the ability to pay out those alleged sums, if it is for 1 year is it all worth it as sustained success is the best way to have your club heading.
If they can afford it good luck to them, there club must be run well off field to save that sort of money.

Not every league has a salary cap i know thw DDCA is 6.5K which the majority of clubs say is way to low and the majority of clubs in Turf 1 smash that figure.

I don't think it is a massive issue in the CMCA as most clubs don't seem to be paying players and if they do it is generally there young talented players who are thrown $500-$2000 to keep them at there club to save them from the lure of lucrative offers else where.

And i wouldn't get to carried away with the Bunting rumour, still plenty of water to go under the bridge there.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

I have to agree with uncle Mick, the figures that are being banded around about the jgg are inflated, the whispers I have is that he was offered more to go to other cmca clubs but decided on the west. Knowing a person in the know at west, that they would know the rules on paying players and wouldnt risk losing points by paying to many blokes. Reading some of the posts from other forumsters sounds like some clubs would like to be in the position west is, as my source tells me what is the point of having cash in the bank at a non for profit organisation, it is not like you can save up to build a new pavillion!!!

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

brett, yeah 15 grand was the first thought, but then most clubs still have to buy gear, and with small clubs they simply don't have that cash flow.

but if its under 5 grand, none of the teams will accept it because their star players will crack it and they will just have to find other ways to pay them.

at least if its 5 grand, its could be enough to keep the disgruntled players happy.
still, the cmca don't have the man power to really police the salary cap breaches, how are they going to prove cash payments made in the canteen and such?
an honesty system wouldn't work, because lets face it, everyone wants their side to win, by any means necessary.

money would be better spent on coaches, rather than players. the players who only stay for the cash usually aren't the long term club men.
at least with coaches, they can develop the younger talent into the clubs future.
just my two cents worth

just read that then, missed it. but spot on. rather the money went to coaches still

How do you enforce a salary cap comrade? Why should Woolnough clubs be set less of a salary cap? Let the market decide (101 Economics). The salary cap is a socialist concept trying to keep inefficient clubs competitive. It is an impost on all clubs and punishes the ones that can get their act together. The rules state two paid players, then so be it, but you need a mechanism to enforce a breach. A Statutory declaration is a means to an end and can be enforced if a (wilful) breach is found to have occurred. At the moment I would seriously doubt there are any mechanisms in place. In to the too hard basket gents. As for Mackie & Hampton Centrals, they have been to lazy to do anything about their shortcomings and one of them has paid the price. The other will not be to far away in the next couple of years.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

fair enough. agreed.
still, the 2 paid players rule. how many clubs actually stick to this.
we don't want the same thing happening in the cmca that happens in the English premier league, where the same teams win over and over because rich oil companies and Russian billionaires own the sides.
should be more of a level playing field, but still, for the sides that are in that financial position from hard work good on them. wouldnt it be good to see the battlers get up tho

lol. I can somehow imagine Merlot & Sugar sitting in the longroom with their broad Russian accents and thick coats scheming who will be their next respective targets.Maybe that's where Merlot has disappeared to; try and find a billionaire to bail out the Dee's whilst checking on a few of his barely legal investments in remote places where the Commissioner for Taxation cannot access..allegedly....

Indeed it will when the Woolnough Shield ends up at Highett West at season's end.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

The main aim for any CMCA club is to develop its local talent from juniors upwards, with the ambition to have them represent your first eleven. Some are good enough to go even higher, including district & state levels (even representing Australia). If those higher goals don't work out, and ambition tapers off, then the player would hopefully come back to his CMCA club. The club will be better for it with the player being a far better cricketer than had he stayed there all his career.

In the meantime, to grow, guide and mentor these kids learning the ropes in senior cricket, it is not derelict to consider reimbursing the odd quality player from higher levels, in order to bolster quality playing stocks, improve standards and win more games.

Having said all this, for a club to readily pay such quoted salaries for cricketers playing park cricket is simply irresponsible and counter-productive to the entire competition.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Just landed back in Oz after another successful trip to the sub continent where most of the finances are holding their own or have improved.Have fired up the laptop in the Quantas club at Sydney airport as I await the short trip home to melb town.

Have heard from AFL .com that the saints have finally lost one as the cessnas were Bombers today, and the mighty go dees forgot the tanking to inflict yet another hiding on the anchorless dockers.Adam is probably still in the long room what a time to be out of the country as the Go Dees salute the judge.

Blairy how did you go without the two calicos and did your mob emulate the Saints and lose the second semi to arch rival chelt?

Saint Adam,

I like your sermon from the pulpit but are you trying to tell me no big cabbage leafs changed hands for Scotty and scheiger? It is all very well to promote the kids but they take time to develop but the odd bit of monopoly cabbage goes a long way to kick starting the engine.

Speaking of engines what is happening at the oasis there was strong rumours on the crowded bus on the streets of Bombay that the younger B is settled in the hammock at the oasis but the older jughead has the tent packed on the camel heading down Widdop cres. Now older B come clean with the facts as promised and give us a scoop as to what alledgedly is a done deal.

Arch

I suppose it was a little lonely on the boundary yesterday but I will be back next Saturday to knock the top off a couple with you.Anymore allegations of your supposeded identity and I also heard a very funny joke where you and I are the same person!

Uncle Mick,

The Jungle drums are beating louder about a new whiz bang website with a femine touch how is your application going , have you been invited to the oval office for an interview yet?

Clocker

I thought your Brighton Grammar education taught you better than that.
Sub continent investments all legal and profitable with not a vodka in sight.
An interesting proposition to find some off shore funds for the go dees after mission foods was snapped out of our clutches by the Bulldogs.

Maybe I could throw a bit of the Merlot wealth around in the CMCA to buy a team to knock off the fiscal ones mob.Is the fiscal one with us or is the tail leading the dog?Has he been seen sipping coffee in Collins st of late?

Time to board the plane and head to a wet looking Melb town home of the mighty Go Dees ( well this week anyway )

until next time............................................. Merlot

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Merlot, indeed Bentleigh ANA remunerated the names you mentioned as our Coach & Captain. It doesn't contradict anything I stated in my previous post.

As for the Dees, a good win against a very pitiful Fremantle... I was indeed in the Long Room cheering on Bentleigh ANA's own Number 44.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Interesting the CMCA have decided to start this initiative re: player payments the same year the VTCA removed the player payments rules for being 'un-policable' in park cricket run by volunteer administrators who don't have the time (or the authority) to audit club's books. Check the VTCA forum if you want to see how much of a joke that rule was considered by the clubs, the new plan for that comp is a points system for player transfers.

It is painful to all involved that clubs who find a rich sugar-daddy to finance player payments (and being honest, most clubs without sugar daddy/pokies can only turn over ~$50k per year which makes >$5k payments pretty galling for the 2nd XI blokes paying subs to finance the bloke keeping them out of the 1s) usually play finals over teams who've blooded youth, but same's true of every comp. Might just have to think twice about hanging around for a beer at clubs where you know the blokes are only there for the ch-ching.

Good work Uncle. For what it is worth.
1.Be open and upfront with clubs and supporters of the competition. That means no grubby little back room agreements, or failing to disclose information because it may be detrimental. ie Still waiting for the official outcome of last years tribunal result where Mr P was allegedly suspended.Did he receive 1,2 or 3 matches. I am sure there will be a few clubs very anxious to know.
2.Four newsletters to be placed on the web ie pre season, mid season, pre finals, post finals.
3.A fortnightly column on the website from some of the men in Blue ie anecdotes, frequent questions, laws of the game would be good.It would add a little personal touch and would allow umpires, players and supporters to get a better insight. We don't want it monopolised by one or two umpires.
4.CMCA personality of the week.It can be a current player, legend or previous player(s) administrators ie 'remember when'. We are far to quick to relegate past players onto the scrap heap and not really appreciate their feats or contributions irrespective of which club they played for.
5.More recognition for Woolnough and lower grades as there are some good cricketers out there as well as some up and coming youngsters.
6.Coaches corner where some of the coaches can share their insight into the game.
7.Finally if possible an ANA concept where some of the games are recorded and put up on You Tube ie highlights of each round or some of the games. Not technically minded as some of you scribes but if possible it would look great.Only a couple of minutes worth or however it is determined.

Re: CMCA- Ommies to remain in top grade

Great suggestions, Clock.

My impeccable sources tell me they're looking at the following:

A copy of the rules accessible through the CMCA website.
A weekly list of the fines issued.
Advertisement of events such as Captains meetings etc.
Advertisement of social events both CMCA and clubs who wish to advertise via the CMCA website.
An online version of the old Declaration (possbily 4-5 editions for the season and a printed version for the CMCA Presentation Night)
A scribe specific to Woolnough and possibly someone or even the same person for the lower grades.
Player profiles each week.

Seems to me they're heading in the right direction.
