Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10
Good in theory Clocker, but these offenders will need to be educated on the laws of the game before they can be given the sky blue shirt and hat. I believe the SFL have a system in place that offenders of such a nature are forced to train with the umpires before they can front up for their next game. This would seem a more reasonable sanction. Perhaps once educated, repeat offenders can be forced to adjudicate in however many matches the tribunal sees fit.

What magic wand do you have that has escaped the attention of everyone else? The younger ones tend to play the game and are not interested in umpiring cricket.A lot umpire junior footy as it gets their heart working when they are not being beaten up or abused by over bearing parents and coaches who think they are umpiring AFL games. I hope you were not one of them Merlot?? Every competition is struggling to attract umpires for various reasons and abuse and disrespect are but some of the reasons. The amateurs have a process in place where each club is required to nominate one or two people who umpire the reserve grade. This is an option to consider which could assist the Association and drive the process from within, especially for the lower grades. Finally, it should be mandatory that any player suspended for abusing an umpire during the season, must serve that suspension umpiring a game before they are allowed to be eligible to play again. It will then give some of these heroes a chance to see what it is like from the other side of the fence and would give them a better appreciation of how hard it is.
