City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2010/11

Btw - not bad punting from you, Clock. 7 of the 9 winners all got a mention in your tips for the Caulfield Races. I'd imagine a fruitful day for yourself....?

One week is a long time in punting. Chocolate to boiled lollies etc etc.You get the drift. The jockey of Shocking should be horse whipped for his ride.It came home beautifully though and very hard to tip against in the Cup.Have to regroup this week.

Shane cut the attitue this chat is not about us, its about the cricketers out there that need that extra little bit of information about the league. This week makes for an interesting week, changing from the two day format to the one day format always changed the way matches swing.

Anyone know of the news that young A.Zaia is injured after a S.N.F.D.T.A (Saturday night fall due to alcohol)? Love to hear some updates
Bit of attitude from you there funky, spreading rumours is not what this forum is about either. get it together alex is fine

Good to hear i was just around a few of the unit boys on sunday, they may have been taking the piss. In my old age i struggle to keep up with some of the "gags" the younger boys pull on me.
how much influence will the spring carnaval have on the next month of cricket? what clubs are know to have the biggest gambling culture/probably wont have their heads where they are ment to be in the coming saturdays?

Just quietly Clock, Uncle Mick has no idea about the punt, but was given a couple of good tips for a nice consolation to missing out on another week of cricket.

I don't believe it is a prevalent as it was say a decade ago when teams would have quite a few players 'unavailable' during the carnival. Nowadays the younger ones seem to enjoy the carnival for the party atmosphere.

No Dixon for Hampton United isn't a good start against a side like Moorabbin West. Bell will need 100+ and 7 wickets if they're to be any chance....

Largely undermanned Juggernaut went down to the Beach Boys today. Wouldn't read too much into it with footy trips severely depleting their stocks this weekend. Omega being bowled out for 70 would be concerning. Redbacks off to a flyer. Another disappointing day for our boys outclassed in the field being the big difference. A depleted Juggernaut Reserves side gave AERSL a flogging is also what I'm hearing....

Evening All,

Firstly congratulations to my good BCF buddy Uncle Mick who apparently tied the knot in Sydney today. No doubt we will get a full match summary on his return.

No results in the Sunday papers again which is simply not good enough but my cricket and Jimmy's radio show filled in the gaps.

Merl's review

Merl's own beach boys despatched the tin can alley mob and that might see the many BCFers dropping the J word as surely Merl is now the new juggernaught with his so you think lead in the Merlot Horlicks tipping contest.

The spiders weaved a better web than our own Peter Parker when they gave Vinnie's mob a mother and father of a hiding. It could be a long way back for the Rowans rd mob!

The late Brude's mob short circuited the mackie machine that not even jumper leads could start! Our very own B needs to get off his ample backside and get the runs flowing again.

The custard pot did nothing to help his two blues achieve an upset win over the cowboys with the rare effort of two consecutive ducks as a makeshift opener.Maybe he better get back on the forum to find some form!!

The new Brady Rd milliomaires had a regulation win over the highway pretenders who even if the politician rang the bells and called for a division still wouldn't know how to win.I believe the child made a few runs but he must be on strike with the custard pot as he has given us nothing!

The Royals had an easy win over the golfers with our very own Sugar getting a Michelle.Pity he didn't put in neither his tips or returned trigger's phone calls looking for the missing captains report something his new captain should be very familiar with!

Wooly

The old Wallet Park gave the disintergrating Cluden a beating as expected.

The Brady rd two didn't even lose a wicket in despatching of the pretenders who wheeled out the Golden Greek for another cameo half century.

Merl's new very own Chelsea Heights turned the royals into court jesters with a big win.

The tin can alley twos gave the RSL an Anzac day hangover with even Wally waddling to runs and an early trip to the bar!

Vinnie's mob gave Uncle Mick no wedding present with an easy win.

The oasis less Bottsy and his side kick Wallace gave the purple and golds what will be a usual beating which will continue throughout the the season. You silly boys you should have gone down to Quiney shield.

I will post a seperate post for the tipping.

Prof Merlot

Evening Again,

The results of this weeks Merlot Horlicks tipping are below.

A few things to note anyone late ( Brudes ) got his score minus 2 and those who failed to tip got the lowest courtesy of Peter Parker less minus two.

Merl scored a Bo Drerek to shoot away to a so you think 4 point lead from The Mentalist and Sledge.

Sugar and his non tipping buddies are holding the ladder up at the bottom.

Army,
Over to you. Can you enlighten us.

The CMCA Executive at its last meeting determined that the result of the Melbourne Wanderers v Brighton District D Grade match should be reversed owing to a breach of By Law 4.5.5. Melbourne Wanderers will now be awarded 6 points for the match but no scores will be recognised for percentage or trophy purposes. Both clubs will be able to nominate teams for finals qualification purposes.

I look forward to hearing what that's all about.

Merl - I appreciate the sentiment, but you might want to check your source. Uncle Mick isn't married and hasn't been anywhere near Sydney since the Queen's Birthday weekend away with the Hoops 2s captain and old mate Blairy & son.

Clocker,

Not much to report other than what was mentioned. We got beat but after the match one of our less experienced players mentioned to our captain "How come they can use a 2 piece ball?" to which our captain was surprised and therefore approached the BDCC skipper and asked him point blank what happened. He said that yes they had used a 2 piece ball and weren't aware that a 4 piece ball is needed in D grade (as I think they just came up from E grade). So although we didn’t believe that they did it on purpose we felt that they had breached the rule and as a result the game wasn’t played on fair terms. So we appealed the result to the Exec and as it turns out they agree.

Nothing more to it, relations are good and I want to stress our skipper genuinely believe it to be an oversight not an attempt to cheat.

Sorry for not submitting tips Merl... will take a Longy win over 12 successful tips any week. Surprised that no one picked up on a winless side's losing skipper in Round One refusing to shake hands with the opposing captain, who isn't a badbloke.

MINNOWS SHARE DAY IN THE SUN

In CMCA cricket it was a day where The Davids showed that their slingshots were a more than handy weapon and a few of the competitions Goliaths were felled in style.
Le Page Park broke the spell Mackie had them under with a resounding win in a round of games which were reduced to one day affairs after the first day of play last week was cancelled.
The Panthers batted well after taking first option at the crease with Adrian “The Don” Taranto (46) and Steve “Brownlow” McConchie (65) adding 97 after the loss of an early wicket ensuring their team would have a reasonable total. Whilst the rest of The Panthers batsmen didn’t really carry on the good work their sum tally of 7/146 was going to take some catching.
Plenty rested on the shoulders of star Mackie batsman Damien Krotofil but McConchie completed his days work by whipping out the centrepiece of The Machine’s line up for only 4 and then spinner Scott Hendy demolished the middle order claiming 5/19 leaving The Machine in tatters at 7/63. Whilst youngster Liam Hard (29*) batted gamely in his first eleven debut The Panthers fielding was first rate and Mackie were only able to reach 106.
Le Page’s efforts were mirrored by Carnegie South who have started the season in flying fashion. The Redbacks began in very positive fashion with Kev Pereira (45) and Joel Fisher (28) combining for a solid start and then Pereira and David Fisher taking the score along nicely from there. Pereira was run out in comical fashion but Fisher went on to make 48 and with some quick cameos from others The Spiders finished with 7/162 from their allotted overs. Omega were obliterated, immediately losing wickets all over the place collapsing to7/43 and eventually falling for only 64 in a dismal effort. Rudy Schleiger snapped up 3/20 but it was Scott Adams who bowled with real fire taking 2/4 off his 9 overs. The Spiders now meet The Panthers in what shapes as the match of round next week.
Hampton Central did not take long to get on the winners list in their return to Longmuir Shield with a comprehensive shellacking of West Bentleigh. Craig Amoore (60) and Grant Newman (40) provided the lions share of The Two Blues score adding 97 after Nick McMillan had gone without a run on the board and with a couple of quick fire 20’s from Damian Devola and Dave Anderson they managed a closing score of 6/169. Carl Reid (3/32) did best for West. If Centrals were satisfied with their total they would have been positively ecstatic when West quickly slumped to 2/1 and then after a minor recovery lost 3 wickets for five runs to be out of the running at 5/38. Nigel Hunt bowled nine overs straight through grabbing three of the wickets and the Centrals fielding was par-excellence as the West bats offered them plenty of opportunity to demonstrate their catching skills. When the grim reaper laid down his tools the West Bentleigh innings had come to rest at only 77 with Centrals skipper David “Pot O’” Gold bagging 4/21.
To complete the big day for the little guys, Elwood upset East Sandringham with an ultimately comfortable win. East batted sedately managing 7/138 with Anton Duddy (41) in good touch and new boy Brett Gibb (40) looking like he will be a nice addition to the East middle order. They would have sensed they had enough runs on the board when they had Elwood reeling at 2/10 but new Woods skipper Steve Jones looked ultra impressive making 60 and in tandum with premium all-rounder Marshall Bunting (53*) steered the Woods ship home in fine style in another upset result. There would have been good vibrations down at the beach boys home ground post match and other clubs will realise that The Woods are a real threat this season.
The anticipated match of the round lived up to expectations with Bentleigh Uniting sneaking home by 9 runs over Brighton Union. Uniting had plenty of bats that got good starts including Richards (35), Lalor (31), Ernst (24) and Turner (23) but none went on with the business and they had to content themselves with 8/160.
Jules Waras-Carstensen (2/36) was impressive with the ball for Union.
Union looked to be tracking well after Aaron Gregory (35) gave them a flying start but when Union skipper Ivan Delac (26) fell victim to an amazing outfield catch it totally turned the tide Uniting’s way and Ash Russell (3/23) was able to dry up the scoring from that point on and hold The Unionites to 6/151.
Bentleigh ANA opened their account with a steady 24 run win over Kingston Heath.
ANA (8/136) were not overly impressive with the bat although Bill Biggs was the exception playing a quality knock of 44 against a tidy Heath pace attack but when their turn with the ball came it was a different story with The Royals dominating early through Brad Dolman (5/25) who tore through the Golfers top order and then when it looked like they were going to mount a late charge Adam “Sugar” Kain (4/19) had sufficient tricks in his bag to nip the uprising in the bud and finish The Heath off for 112.
In Woolnough Shield Washington Park continued their impressive start with another powerful batting display against Cluden as did Moorabbin West with an impressive bowling display against Hampton United. Aspendale Edithvale RSL who were able to defend a score of 62 last round found that 51 was not quite enough this time around against East Sandringham, whilst impressive young Bentleigh Uniting pair Tim Brisbane (76*) and Tom Backman (80*) enjoyed a pleasant Saturday afternoon outing against Brighton Union.
