As always Micky, best to get the old facts straight. Jimmy knew nothing of this (in true Sgt.Schultz style) it was your old mate Trigger who announced congrats to you on your Sydney wedding he said you were enjoying yesterday!!!! Could have been a briefer union than one of Liz Taylors go-arounds!!!!

Jimmy,

Please ask Trigger to clarify his obvious mistake a bit like his umpiring!!!

Archie is still in India on a recruiting mission and he tips far better than PP.I hope PP's attention to detail with Kirsten is better than his tipping!!!

Well what a weekend of upsets. I think the combination of the Spring Carnival and the shortened version of the game removed the major strength of Longy teams - depth - and evened the playing field somewhat, with the better fielding sides proving to make the difference.

This coming weekend will start to sort the men out from the boys with a couple of interesting clashes to look forward to.

I saw mention of the Redbacks may be featured in the match of the round (which is a first!), but I don't think the Spiders will be getting too far ahead of themselves knowing that they had similar one day form early last season before being totally exposed in the two day games. Only time will tell if any improvements have been made and they have a massive test this week against a very strong bowling line up.

Slightly embarrassed about the tipping last week and, as Merl implied, will need to spend less time studying Kirsten's form and more time on Round 3.

The Brady Rd Billionaires win over the Highway Pretenders was anything but convincing and wouldn't have called it a regulation win at all. I heard The Child stood in disbelief that the Unionists had the gall to dismiss him, but as he'd been chopping away across the line in the preceding overs, the impending dismissal shouldn't have been that much of a shock.

The Beach Boys look the goods with Buntings form shining early.

What's happened to The Machine?? Surely they're not that dependant on the big fella?

The two day games are going to answer a few big questions.

Jimmy,

Nice work as always, but, as one hack to another hack,it would be remiss of me to not point out that Steve Jones is Elwood's coach -- not skipper -- and Marshall is still the captain. Otherwise, a very happy beach boy over here.

Thanks BW, poor effort on my part, good of you to correct me (Marshall marshalling well on Saturday, learning quickly). Everything working nicely down at the beach (Dennis, Carl, Mike, Al and John Stamos all look nice and keen), excellent to see you have got over your drug issues of the past.

Merl, tough to get Trigger during the week, might have to wait until next Sunday for a retraction!!!

Well said Parker, but with redbacks selecting young talent Josh Fisher to start in the ones, surely after a woeful display of just 10 runs, Nicholson would be a fair chance for a call up. Bit of rivalry between the two but i could imagine the club will pick on form and experience and not worry to much about dissapointing the kids. I do agree that it was a very positive start but the spiders do have a tough decision to make coming up against an Omega side who will be keen to bounce back as they proved they are capable of doing so last year after a slow start.

Shane, I'd say Josh Fisher answered your query. The Spider's skipper will be coming back into the side this week, at young Nicholson's expense I'd say. The rivalry is very healthy though.

The Ommies have been a bogey side for the Machine for the past few seasons. Tim Malane always lifts a notch and seems to find runs, whilst Buddha also enjoys making runs against the Ommies. He has had to listen to the inane banter, texts and paid out a lot for beers. The loss of young Bychcov to St.Kilda(and I might he is doing very well) has hurt the Ommies, and their latest performance of 64 against the Redbacks was woeful. I am still to be convinced that at 3/3, that Charlie Yanni is not the one you would promote in the batting order. This is when the skipper should have taken the lead. The Machine fell to the spin of Hendy who gutted the Mackie middle order. You would expect that experienced batsmen would show just a little more respect, but that has always been their problem. On a positive note it was pleasing to see the continued development young Liam Hard, who batted very well for a mature 29 n.o who at one stage was probably destined to play with the Ommies. The Machine has too much on the line and will win this one.

The Royals managed their first win of the season against the disappointing Golfers who would have backed themselves after such a fine performance against Uniting.
They now face the rampaging Uniting in what we all hope is the first genuine two week match.Uniting will be looking forward to this so they can put on show their long and impressive batting line up. The two skippers and former team mates at St.Kilda will now get to lock horns and it should be an interesting battle to witness. The Royals attack is honest but unless they make in roads quickly, they could be facing a very long day in the field. Sugar is in good form and had Uniting in all sorts of trouble last season and with a bit of luck and better captaincy may have led the Royals to a win. William Biggs has to make a big score for the Royals to have a chance. Thirties and Forties will not suffice, he needs a ton and then go on with it with support from some of the cubs at Royal Park. With Messers Backman and Brisbane making significant statements in Woolnough, selection meetings at Uniting could go on well into the night. Uniting by a lot.

New member Roy bemoaned the fact that no one selected the Centrals in Round 2.Well without being disrespectful Roy, the Centrals can be a paper team of sorts. This is their first win in 13 tries in Longy, so is it any wonder no one is keen to jump on board. The Sky Blues look good on paper but can fail to live upto expectations. There is no doubt that they handed the Jekyl & Hide Cowboys a decent hiding on the weekend, but I am still to be convinced. This week will be a huge challenge for the Sky Blues against the undefeated Elwood. Stop Bunting and you stop Elwood.Pretty simple to write, not so simple to put into effect. Elwood to continue with their undefeated form.

The Hoops are winless despite two fair efforts. They would be bitterly disappointed to have gone down to Elwood, and they pushed Uniting but again just fell short.
They face the young Golfers who need to regroup from the disappointing effort against the Royals. At 6/102 they seemed to have the game in hand and then collapsed to lose 4/10. The Hoops will be in no mood for pleasantries and will be looking to gain a convincing win to get their season back on track and quieten the factions at Hoop Oval who believe that a new leader may result in a change of fortunes.

Trips away, Melbourne Cup carnival, are excuses being cited for the Juggernaut. They lost to Elwood, a team that a number of pundits believed were incapable of defeating the Juggernaut due to some hero worship fetish, but that seemed to have changed.Rather they took the role of dominatrix and inflicted a fair bit of pain against the struggling Juggernaut. The Cowboys are all over the shop at the moment. I swear if bets were taken on the CMCA, then the Cowboys would be the first ones investigated. Their performances fluctuate so much you just wonder what is going on at Victory Park. They got out of jail against the Ommies in the first round, but not this time. The Juggernaut are struggling but they will still field a competitive team and will win.We might just send someone down to Victory Park wired up and see if anyone will give us a couple of free 'no balls' on the weekend.

Match of the round 1-v-2 and well done to both clubs as they have come out swinging and one team will open up a handy gap at the top. I like Le Page's batting line up as it looks slightly more poised and experienced, but having said that the Red Backs also have some depth with some handy youngsters. Pereira is a flashy bat, but has started well and is giving the Redbacks the start they are looking for.Fisher has settled in well to Australia and his batting seems to reflect this. Now that the two week matches come into play then I can see him getting a big score(s) at some stage and could be the dark horse for the player of the year award. He also seems to be getting used to drinking cold beers instead of that soup they call a beer in the UK. McConchie is in fine form and deserves his outright favouritism for the player of the year award. Czosnek has had two starts but has not gone on with it.When he does watch out. Le Page in a close one. Yet to be convinced that the Redbacks can play the two day format.

Longmuir Selections:

Omega v Mackie
Bentleigh ANA v Bentleigh Uniting
Hampton Central v Elwood
Kingston Heath v Brighton Union
West Bentleigh v East Sandy
Carnegie South v Le Page Park

Jimmys early predictions seem to bearing some fruit with the Wash Ups settling the Woolnough competition on fire. You always know when you the Wash ups are up and about; they start crowing about themselves, and boy are they doing it to anyone who is prepared to listen.Unfortunately for everyone, I suspect that the Sharks may end up winning their match against the Party Boys outright.Their batting is abysmal and a repeat of such a pitiful perofrmance should result in their immediate suspension.Cluden, Cluden Cluden, what the hell has happened down Brighton way? I see you have lost a promising opening bowler who has returned to the Oasis. After being unmercilessly defamed by the once reliable Merlot, I believe this injustice will be enough to fire up the Kookas against a disappointing Hampton.(Just a tip Dicko, if you are going to play Jimmy Shim, then bat him up the order where at least you know he will hold up an end.Yes his ability is limited but at least he gives everything when he does play.A little hint for the supposed more talented batsmen) The West Stars just going along nicely and will have an interesting duel against the undefeated Omega. They could have a few Longmuir players joining them this week. Will stick with the West Stars. Uniting will beat ANA quite easily. This could become quite ugly considering the depth of the batting at the disposal of Uniting. Chelsea Heights just keep winning and that is all they have to do. Nice and easy and stay under the radar.Another regulation win this week.
Woolnough:

East Sandringham Boys Club v Cluden
Bentleigh Uniting v Bentleigh ANA
Moorabbin West v Omega
Brighton Union v Chelsea Heights
Hampton United v Highett West
Aspendale - Edithvale RSL v Washington Park

Clocker,

Not much to report other than what was mentioned. We got beat but after the match one of our less experienced players mentioned to our captain "How come they can use a 2 piece ball?" to which our captain was surprised and therefore approached the BDCC skipper and asked him point blank what happened. He said that yes they had used a 2 piece ball and weren't aware that a 4 piece ball is needed in D grade (as I think they just came up from E grade). So although we didn’t believe that they did it on purpose we felt that they had breached the rule and as a result the game wasn’t played on fair terms. So we appealed the result to the Exec and as it turns out they agree.

Nothing more to it, relations are good and I want to stress our skipper genuinely believe it to be an oversight not an attempt to cheat.

Far to diplomatic Army. Call them a bunch of cheating mongrels. They think this is a turf competition where they can doctor a pitch.Wow it took your players that long to work out that they were using a two piece ball. The fact that one ball was swinging around all of the place and your ball was probably not doing much should have been a hint there was something wrong.Still rules are rules.According to the CMCA website you were meant to have an umpire? But it also states that you were playing Kingston Heath.

Clock,
My response was typed with my presidents hat on mate! Plus i didnt actually play in the match so all i can tell you is what I have been told.
The confusion there mate is that it was Rd 1 not Rd 2 and there was no umpire appointed for the match in Rd 1. It has just taken awhile to make news on the CMCA website.

Last couple of weeks a young fella from the Brady rd millionaires targeted whether fairly or not who knows regarding his off field life style, i am no one to judge that's for sure. But what about the Juggernaught??? no mention of there display with many players missing in a boozed filled weekend away and the absence of Manders??? for what reason. I believe he was also away hitting the cruisers all weekend and in return it has cost his side a victory, is it the right thing to even discuss what these young lads get up to on the weekend? I mean cricket is not everything to everyone and we all should live our life and enjoy it to the max and if that is what they decide to do then who are we to nit pick.........i still remember my old days as a young buck at Jakes lol

Turn it up, Dingels. Manders was on his footy trip. Unfortunately for the Juggernaut it coincided with the Hampton United footy trip which meant Luke Dallas and a couple of others were unavailable as well. Cheeka's late scratching only compounded things for them. I wouldn't read into the result. They lost the game with a few overs to go with what was probably the weakest side they've fielded in 10 years. Dallas, Manders & Jenkin all back this week will make a significant difference. If you look on Mycricket you'll notice Corp, Devereaux, Martyn & Pearce all haven't played a game yet... still the team to beat for mine.

Slegnidnhoj,
Agree, you are a long time out of it, so they should enjoy the moment because it passes pretty quickly.

WTF! who's crowing down at Packer??? Two wins to start the season is great but we are certainly not getting ahead of ourselves. We've made that perfectly clear to the Woolnough playing group and the club in general. It's disappointing to read crap like this on the forum.....

Anyone seen or heard from ontherise? I'd like to know what the story is at AERSL. 2 shocking performances with the bat would be concerning. Particularly given their side isn't all that different to previous years. Sources tell me they looked scared on the weekend facing Worner.

Longmuir
Omega vs Mackie - The cogs will start to turn for The Machine this week and with the Ommies batting looking a little spineless to date, the Machine should manufacture a win here.
Bentleigh ANA vs Uniting - This is the Billionaires time to shine. There depth will prove to much for the Royals.
Hampton Central vs Elwood - Interesting match, but the Beach Boys will ride this one in.
Kingston Heath vs Brighton Union - Another tight match, but the CBUCA (City of Brighton Union Cricket Association) should open up their account here.
West Bentleigh vs ESBC - Juggernaut should get back on track here, even with talk of potential outs, West Bentleigh's batting looks too shaky.
Carnegie South vs Le Page - Le Page look the goods with some serious quality firing early on and this will be a serious test for the spiders. I'll back the Spiders as they have everything to prove.

Woolly
ESBC vs Cluden - Juggernaut in a belting.
Uniting vs ANA - tough draw for ANA early on and will suffer for another week here.
Moo Westers vs Omega - Moorabbin West to get clear here.
Brighton Union vs Chelsea Heights - Chelsea will keep ascending
Hampton United vs Highett West - The neighbours will finally be complaining again down at Rowans Rd.
AERSL vs Washington - I'm not sure what's in the water down at the wetlands, but AERSL are looking very sick. Washington by 10 lengths.

Tipping Form: May be outclassed in this field. Looking to improve.

Spongebob, I would suggest then that you have a chat to a couple of your players and perhaps consider toning down your website and then you will not leave your club open to such flippant comments.Really, don't you think you are being just a tad precious? You have won and won well and there is nothing wrong with enjoying it especially since the poor season your club had last season. I was making an observation as I see it and hear it and you have flown off the handle.I hope the pressure or expectations are not already building up? Your club should be even stronger after XMAS when a few more players return, especially the ones who were not going to play but now sense a flag in the offing. I hope you blokes remember that at selection time.In a nutshell well done and keep up the winning ways.

TEX Update (Round 1)

Dear Past Players and Legends --- What a start to the Season-- 5 wins out of 5 in the 1st Round !! Packer Park was jumping on Saturday night.

1sts Captain Gareth Finney led the whole room in a rousing rendition of the Theme Song at 8pm !! ( The Geelong Football Club Song with appropriate modifications).

It all kicked off on Thurs. night when we had a pep talk from our erstwhile Coach Bill Meaklim. Bill has lost none of his spark or communication skills. The volume and chatter at Training augured well for the weekend. And so it proved.

The 1sts played at Hampton United and had a crushing victory. On the small ground at Sillitoe Reserve, Shaun Fisher ( 4/39) and Adam Matthiesson ( 3/31) were the standout bowlers. Chasing 160, Andy Jewell carried his bat for 57 n.o. in an innings of superb application. AJ has had the acid put on him pre-season by Coach Milton, skipper Gareth and seemingly half the Club. The tough love worked !! Then we had a brutal cameo from Andy Verrall who smote 56 n.o. in about half an hour. His sixers OVER the pavilion reminded seasoned observers of Steven Sziller's " Century in a Session " on this oval 20 years ago.

The 2nds easily accounted for West Bentleigh. 15 year old Lex Middag again showed his liking for Victory Park by endangering the nearby houses in a " Gilchrist-like " display of power hitting.

On Friday night, the Under 17's made 4/239 at Hurlingham Park. Tom Bishop chimed in with an elegant 103 n.o. !!

So a fair start to the Season. This Sat., the 1sts are at home to Cluden at Caulfield Park No.6 Oval. The 2nds play Carnegie South at Duncan Mackinnon North.

Clocker,
Bit of kettle-black syndrome perhaps? So our president is a little excited at present - 10 from 10 is a decent start to the season in anyone's book and he's PROUD to let our club members know - who wouldn't? and you're calling me precious.... I'm actually glad your taking the time to read our website, as we've put some serious work into it this year! Let's not confuse enthusiasm with arrogance please....
Not sure what crystal ball you have there also - would love to know who's supposedly coming back for us when this so called 'flag is in the offing'?? I see 2 issues...
1. We need to win more than 2 games to get into the grand final, and
2. From my knowledge (and I should know), I know of only one opening bat currently out with an Achilles strain that is in the mix even if we get that far, and as said previously - we are far from getting ahead of ourselves. Our President's message was for 'past players/legends', current club members, and interested observers such as yourself... If that upsets you then I'll ask him to put a disclaimer on it next time.
Let's settle and move on hey ;) plenty of cricket and banter to be played out yet....!!

Well done to Washington i say, what is the big bloody deal let the club and players celebrate a win.....god why are we being so precious these days. There hardly going to think they have the flag in the bag after 2 wins from games jesus christ most people are either jumping at shadows or just been bloody negative!
