City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2010/11

What a weekend of cricket! Hopefully merl can make it down to the Elwood lounge for today's mad Monday shenanigans and to give "merl's own" Field Marshall a consoling hug!

An extremely credible performance by the Hoops to nearly get up and cause the shock of the season. Uniting at 4/177 would have been eyeing a 230+ score; however the Hoops stuck to the task at hand and cut through the bottom order to restrict them to 207. This must be concerning to the Uniting brains trust, but they will have a week to consider their options. The Juggernaut were methodical in passing the Beach Boys 185 with 9 overs for the Juggernaut to negotiate. You must bat out your overs in finals. Another good knock by the Field Marshall, but alas very little support.

The Juggernaut will cross swords with a disappointed Hoops. The last time they met in Round 5 the Hoops just got up in a low scoring match. The Juggernaut is on a roll and will win the Preliminary Final.

Unfortunately for Uniting their Woolnough team has been watching to many World Cup matches and crumbled like the Canadian middle order. A perfect opportunity for someone to step and press their claims for selection in what will be a historical season for Uniting assuming they win the Grand final. When you look at the line up you walk away scratching your head as to how such a talented line up could comprehensively fail. Meanwhile down at Mackie Reserve, a couple of the top order for the Sharks got starts but failed to go on and post a big one. At 7/115 they were in all sorts of trouble, but managed to accumulate a reasonable score of 9/177.Amazing what can happen when a couple of batsmen put their head down and bat out their overs. In response the Heighters, were 2/11 including the big wicket of Brad Lockhart for (0). A minor recovery of sorts got the next partnership to 58 and then Shaun Fisher decided to become involved and managed a hat trick to have the Heighters Reeling at 5/58. It looked like game over and I am sure Sponge Bob was looking forward to a week off. The Heighters dug deep and managed to get over the line in what was a remarkable win for the Chelsea buoys.

The Sharks have to quickly put that loss behind them and prepare for a very tough match against a confident West stars. The last time they met in Round 10, the Weststars inflicted the first and only loss of the season for the Sharks. The Weststars aging team would have appreciated the short but sharp hit out against a very disappointing Uniting. Sorry Sponge Bob but I think the Weststars are on a roll and will play off in their 4th consecutive Grand final.

In Quiney Shield the Wash Ups won the toss which is where is ended for them. They were dismissed for paltry 41 of 34 overs and Uniting passed them overnight and ensuring a grand Final spot. Army and the Wanderers were looking good when they had the Cowboys 6/112 after another hat trick. Alas the Cowboys got away from the Wanderers and posted a good score of 7/223. In reply the Wanderers fell 7 runs short. Great game although Army may disagree.

The Cowboys will overcome a very disappointing Sharks outfit and book their Grand Final spot. I would not want to be the comedian at the Sharks rooms on Sunday night; could get ugly.

It was 7 down Mick, Corp and Pledger both went late but the game was over by then

I see. I left at tea and got a score late in the day that said the same 2 were in with 20 to get, then the next update was they'd got the win. I just assumed that meant there was no other loss of wickets.
Sounds like a ripping comeback by Chelsea Heights. Finding it very hard to see them getting rolled now. That sort of win gives them huge momentum and confidence going into the big dance.

East won 5 down. Dallas 40, Manders 27, Duddy & Corp got them home from 5/123.

Uncle Mick,

This information is still not on the my cricket site and surely Barrack and co could insist on it being there.

Merl is trying to run a prestigious tipping contest and the Timepiece Thimbles are serial offenders in not getting scores up so Joe Public can no what's going on.As usual the BCF and yourself are the first with the information as usual.

Merl over and out but will be back with the all important first round of finals points.

Evening All,

What a big weekend of finals cricket and to all those knockers, doubters , and disbelievers just like Vo Rouge and Gordon Rothacker at the Showgrounds ( only for the older generation like you Jimmy ) Merl is again out in front with the field stacked up behind him as he attempts to make a clean sweep pf the BCF tipping competitions.

The Old whingeing fool knows a little bit about the game and the many fly by nighters that pop into the BCF while Merl and Uncle Mick hold it together just keep listening to the old boy as he actually talks a bit of sense!!!

The Full Bottle

Longy
The Bills got the job done as good sides do and the Pretenders do what they do best pretend they can win.

Merl's own Beach Boys had a dip but the timepiece thimbles prevailed much to Merl's annoyance and one day they may put some scores up so we all know what happened.Maybe BMF could use his big mouth and limited computer skills to update us.
Bluff Rd Cup
Merl's own Heighters are one step away from the Longy dream and a great overall team effort left the spongebobs looking at the oasislss Bottsy's mob who know the way to the Big Dance after many semi formals over the years.

As predicted by the old boy the mouth piece SW got a Michelle and the Bill twos were off to watch a tension filled match of their Bills ones.

Bobby Dazzler
The Bills threes gave the spongebobs a mother and father of a hiding and off they went to swell the crowd at the The Bills ones.
The Cowboys with a bit of ones talent and experience just overcame the Army commandos in a close encounter that can only be good for cricket and something the cosmopolitan collection at Distraction Park can only be proud of their efforts.

D Grade
The long forgotten but Lazarus like Vinnie led his merry men to a win over the pretenders who Merl thought were montys at home.In a disappointing season for the top end of the Ommies their lower grades show the depth and youth of the future will get them back to the top of the mountain.

Adam's tip of the Royals duly saluted with an easy win over the oasisless Bottsys mob.Keep tipping them Adam there are no other excuses now for your tipping.

E Grade
The Bills got up again just to show the outstanding depth and money at the new oasis when they gave the Shamrockers a belting. If they had only been as good as the nag who saluted on Saturday arvo they would have won in a canter!!!!!
The Machine were firing on all pistons as they deflated Merl's Beach Balls oops Boys and then adjourned to the bar!!

F Grade
Better luck for the Beach Boys in F Grade where they gave the pretenders a hatrick of losses for the day.
Despite the long gone fiscal one collecting a Michelle for 42 Bluey and Marty did enough to ensure the thimbles won only one of the three matches they contested and Merl has to be happy with that.
G Grade
The Bills won again as they accounted for the Machine who just ran out of gas
The Panthers got home against the Royal co tennants in reasonably close match.
H Grade
The Sponge bobs with former Longy stars Donati and Dwyer playing social cricket with twiggy's Dad both actually retired not out to give a few other bobs a bat as they completed annihalated the hapless Thimbles which can only be good for cricket.
Merl's former own the Cluden boys gave neighbours from Dog Park a loss in a close low scoring game.
I Grade
The Golfers aced the Party boys while thanks to the Burgermeister's tip Merl got on the two blues bandwagon as they saluted against a hapless machine.

I will put the tipping ladder and the prelim fixture on the next post

Anymore thoughts on CMCA side of the year - Aaron Gregory from Union would have to be the front runner if not sure thing for the wicket keeping position - solid consistent season and showed it again on the weekend.

I'll reserve my judgement til after the big dance. Right now he's in front, but that could all change if the Big Dud can carry the weekend's form through the finals. Same obviously applies if Gregory does as well.

Of course not, Adam. However, I'm not choosing the team of the H&A season. Finals performances count for a lot when picking the best team of the year.

I've heard a fair bit of negative press on the Uniting boys. I personally haven't had a problem, but they seem to be fast becoming the new East Sandy. Long way to go before they're even mentioned in the same breath as far as achievements are concerned, but they certainly seem to be the new tall poppy everyone wants to cut down. If East Sandy get up this weekend one wonders if the neutrals will even bother to watch the big show.

Noticed a great comeback to the CMCA for Daniel Donati...injury plagued for sometime has managed to come back for the Sharks in H grade making almost 200 runs in only his 3 games for this season plus his 40odd today - valued addition for the finals series!
Hopefully 3 was enough to qualify??

Unless his injuries included losing an arm or a leg he should probably be playing higher than H Grade.

Of course not, Adam. However, I'm not choosing the team of the H&A season. Finals performances count for a lot when picking the best team of the year.

This immediately puts the blokes from 8 teams at a disadvantage. If a bloke kicks 8 goals in a semi final to take him to the head of the goalkicking, he doesn't win the Coleman medal.

.....which is why I'm not on the panel selecting the CMCA side of the year. It'd be safe to say, no player will be disappointed if they're not named in Uncle Mick's team. Besides, most players will have picked themselves before the finals, but for mine, I'll wait until after the big games on spots where there hasn't been a clear stand out. The wicket keeping position is a perfect example in this case.

Just want to add Uniting are a bunch of knobs, any wonder we told them to jam there free beers after the match truly can't wait to maul them in 2 weeks.

If you are referring to how they behave on the field then there would be a lot of teams that fit into that category. From what I have observed during the course of the season a few of the Carnegie South players need to have a good long hard look at themselves as some of their antics.Once the game is over you should be able to momentarily to the side what has occured and partake a few frothies. Clearly your lads would have been disappointed to lose a close one, but I would focus on the Juggernaut as they are still a force and have an imposing record against the Hoops. Going out in straight sets is about as bad as it can get.
