Top 5 run scorers
---------------------
Ellis - 358 @ 51.54
Aldons - 348 @ 58
Lawton - 323 @ 40.38
Thompson - 315 @ 52.5
Wright - 308 @ 44

Any surprises here? Parsons(206) and Fernon(130) would be the disappointments for me. Tongue has 284 and 6th on list. Aldons has done very well this year. Captaincy must agree with him. Lawton is new to Canterbury. Does anybody know where he come from? Ellis has had a good year, I am not sure he is that good. Thompson and Wright continue to knock out runs. Hargreaves and Vance also high on list. Mont Albert have plenty of batting talent.

Leigh is averaging 48, not bad at all - bit harsh labelling him a disappointment. Doggy is a 2 day player and he hasn't had many 2 day games. We all know he's class. Lawton is a Pom and can play. Ellis is a good opening bat as long as he doesn't have to run or score quickly. Thnommo is class and is carrying ED at the moment. Wrighty is class, hence his season last year, but maybe not as strong this year?

Well with Ellis you take out the 160, then he has made 190 in 7 digs. Aldons, Wright and Thompson are all class players. Don't know much about lawton. Didn't make any against us. With Toungey it is very easy to make runs at 7 (where 50%+ of those runs are made when you have passed their score or the track is flat, the ball is old etc). But for someone of his ability, I would like to see him take some initative in the top 4. He definately has the skill to bat in the top 4 in pretty much anyside in the comp. Hargraves is a good player and definately backs it up with his mouth. Vance is a gun, wait until he bowls more.

Very disappointed in Parsons, Sturgess, Fernon and Wilson from Canterbury. There are 3 dunstan medallists in that group and Sturgess has been making runs for years. If they lift so will their respective sides. That will help with relegation battles and finals pushes.

Tonguey has got massive shoulders from carrying his team. If he was bowling all day and batting 4 it might be too much of a load for him to carry.

Hargreaves does like a chat, but there's nothing wrong with that if you perform and he's had a pretty good season. North Balwyn are the one's who need to be careful about shooting mouths off (on and off) and not performing. And Vance is a gun, I agree.

what about the bowling, did we decide that miles from ashy must be there pom? because he is killing it, 18 wickets in 7 games is a good return

miles - ashy 18w @ 13.72
abel -GI 17 @ 9.94
mackintosh - RC 17 @12.47
hargraves 16 @ 10.75
liddle 15 @ 15

I just noticed that Davidson from Bulleen has taken 15w @ 11, pretty impressive considering the amount of bowlers they have.

Fair enough about Parsons. A lot is expected of him with both bat and ball and compared to previous seasons his numbers are just a tad down. Very good point though about averaging 48. Most people would take that. I just had a look and he has made 3 60s and a 70. Good consistency.

He is probably the best bowler in the comp I reckon. Still aceptable pace and swings it both ways. Can take bags of wickets also. Rice is an honest toiler and no idea how Tsonis has taken the wickets at the average he has. Bulleen don't seem to be able to get the same players out on the park every week. This is the reason why Ashy are on top despite not having so many 'names' as Bulleen.

Liddle is the best I've seen this year. By a mile. Davidson is too old now, but he's not alone, there are a lot of older guys taking wickets.

it does make a difference, you do need depth in a club, but you also need consistency and only using 12 or 13 players will always hold you in better stead than up to 20 in bulleens case!

Its the expirience of the older guys that is crucial, such as hargreaves, mackintosh etc....

Its only after this round that we can actually believe a bit in the ladder, due to so many missed rounds and wash outs! Alot of the top teams all play each other so going to be interesting right till the last game.

Will be interesting at both ends. Despite a couple of 1 sided games this season the comp is pretty even. Much better than a few years ago when you knew Mulgrave was going to win before the season even started. There is still quite a few 'one year wonders' and hired guns coming into the league (like Spoljaric last year, he was a shocker - didn't even know his team mates names) but the premiers seem to be the clubs like Mont Albert who can keep a core bunch of players like Wright, Hargreaves, Baker etc together and top up with some extra players. Does anybody know what has happened to Bhosale. I rated him.

That's why we were lucky to get Leigh when we did; with so much cricket left in his body! Bulleen are specialising in picking up ex District players at 30+

It's a bit of a MA love in at the moment. I wonder how many of these 'new members' are MA players?
