England in West Indies

Re: England in West Indies

England have made good progress today, reaching 88 before Strauss chopped a quicker Chris Gayle delivery onto his stumps.

1/92 now, Cook up to 45 and Shah on three. Still 57 behind so they aren't out of the woods yet.

Re: England in West Indies

Perfect time for Cook to get the century monkey off his back. Providing they stay in for an hour or so after lunch, the pressure will be off and it's a prefect chance for a ton.

Re: England in West Indies

Hundred for Cook. Finally got one, this England batting line-up is really taking shape, just the bowling we've gotta sort out now.

Re: England in West Indies

England finished on 2/279 and the match ended in a draw. Cook stayed undefeated on 139 and Pietersen was 72 not out.

The final test begins on Friday. Ramnaresh Sarwan was Man of the Match.

Re: England in West Indies

Well, some surprise selections from both sides. West Indies have opted for the extra batter in Lendl Simmons and he comes in for Sulieman Benn who's been dropped. Jerome Taylor is injured so Lionel Baker comes in for him.

England have made some changes of their own. Ryan Sidebottom has been axed and Amjad Khan will make his debut. Ravi Bopara has been left out despite making 100 and Monty Panesar is in as the second spinning option. Tim Ambrose is gone as keeper so Matt Prior comes back into the team.

The Windies go into the game a bowler short and England go in a batter short. Interesting tactics by both sides.

West Indies XI: *Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brendan Nash, Ryan Hinds, +Denesh Ramdin, Daren Powell, Fidel Edwards, Lionel Baker

England XI: Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, Owais Shah, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Matt Prior (wk), Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Amjad Khan, Monty Panesar

England won the toss and decided to bat first, They're 0/11 after two overs.

Re: England in West Indies

fingers crossed the pitch isn't a complete road as the windies look like their team selection is geared for a draw and i'm not sure I can bare to watch another 5 days with nothing to help the bowlers. Nice to see england playing 2 spinners and 5 bowlers but i'm not sure about not including rashid with the strength of our tail, bowling along side another spinner would have been perfect for a debut, but then again it is a must win game so maybe its best to let him get a few odi's under his belt first as the spin attack for the odi's is laughable with gareth batty leading the spin attack.

Re: England in West Indies

England First Innings 6dec/546

Paul Collingwood 161
Andrew Strauss 142
Matt Prior 131*

Lionel Baker 2/77

West Indies First Innings 4/383 (117 overs)

Gayle 100 retired hurt
Brendan Nash 87*
Shivnarine Chanderpaul 64*

Monty Panesar 2/102

Solid stuff from the Windies in reply. Gayle reached his 100 but then pulled a hamstring after making his crease and then had to retire hurt. It is still unknown if he will bat again in the innings although I'd say he won't if West Indies can get close enough to England's score.

Nash and Chanderpaul have batted very well since Simmons' dismissal and have got West Indies to 163 runs behind England's score. Nash has been some find for West Indies since moving to the region after spending his time playing for Queensland in Australia's domestic competition. His average as it stands is over 50 at the moment.

Well, West Indies will look to bat on, they'll be in no hurry as they have a 1-0 lead in the series and with this game being the last, they only need a draw to win the series. If they can bat till around tea time they will be around about England's total by then should the run rate stay the same.

Matt Prior has conceded 30 byes by the way, surely his spot will be in danger if his keeping doesn't improve. The total extras conceded by England is 66 too.

Re: England in West Indies

100 for Nash, his maiden test century as he flicks Panesar on the leg-side for two. Sir Viv Richards applauds as does the crowd who have adopted him as one of their own. A great innings from Nash, West Indies were in trouble when he joined Chanderpaul and together they've put on 216 runs with Chanderpaul still there on 77. Nash's hundred took 234 balls and included 17 fours.

The bye count is up to 34 and extras are up to 72 overall, the second most ever for a test match innings. James Anderson has spent the last ten minutes throwing a torrent of abuse at Nash but Jimmy fails to realise he's actually a shit bowler.

4/419, Nash on 104, Shiv 77. Only 127 behind now too.

Re: England in West Indies

Windies were bowled out for 544 last yesterday, only two behind England on first innings. Nash scored 109, Chanderpaul 144 not out and Ryan Hinds made 25.

In reply, England reached 3/80 at stumps. Strauss was out for 13, Shah one and then Alistair Cook was given out caught behind for 24 after not even getting his bat near the ball. He played and missed at a Ryan Hinds delivery, Denesh Ramdin was the only one to appeal and Cook was given out by Darryl Harper. Cook then went for the referral but was given out again by the third umpire (Aleem Dar)!!

Anyway, England are 4/104 now, Collingwood the man to fall today for nine after giving Ryan Hinds an easy return catch via a leading edge.

Pietersen on 45, Irongloves on three.

Re: England in West Indies

Irongloves bowled by Baker for 61 from only 49 balls. Pietersen still there on 86 and together they added 106 runs from 14.4 overs.

5/207, the lead is 209 with a declaration to come quite quickly as England are going for the win. Broad is in.

Re: England in West Indies

Pietersen goes down swinging, he gets his century and then holes out to deep midwicket for 102 of the bowling of Edwards.

6/237 at lunch, lead by 239. That should probably be the declaration although it does leave England in danger of losing the test should such a modest target be set.

66.2 overs left today, could be an exciting finish!

Re: England in West Indies

Tense finish in the end, England just couldm'y quite pull it off.

Would say that this test went a little way to making up for the rubbish pitches in the last 2/3 games.

Re: England in West Indies

First one-dayer is underway. England won the toss and decided to bat first, Strauss was out to a horrible ball from Powell, short and wide and Strauss threw the bat at it and it hit the toe and went to Bravo at backward point.

Pietersen threw his wicket away too, tries to turn one onto the leg-side but is beaten by the slower delivery and he gets a simple leading edge to mid-on, delighting Dwayne Bravo who gets his first wicket of the game.

England are 2/64 from 13 overs, Bopara on 19, Shah on 0.

West Indies XI: *Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy, +Denesh Ramdin, Nikita Miller, Fidel Edwards, Daren Powell

England XI: *Andrew Strauss, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Owais Shah, Paul Collingwood, +Matt Prior, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Stuart Broad, Gareth Batty, Stephen Harmison, James Anderson

Re: England in West Indies

Miller gets Bopara LBW for 42. Miller spears one in and it straightens on middle and leg with Bopara trying to flick to fine leg but missing and it struck in front.

3/126 now, Shah on 34, Collingwood 2.
