Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

I wish you'd waited one more round. He was ready to go for me. Poop.

Hope he goes 0-100 in that next ODI and gets bowled for a duck.

You mean Saqibul? He rules!!!
I thought about waiting and trying to pick him up in a later round, but I figured I'd better grab him now.

Saqibul Hasan's stats
Batting average of 45, bowling average of 24. He'll get the 15th needed ODI in Zimbabwe in a few days. Too bad he hasn't played any tests yet.

Suffice it to say, he's an automatic starter in all of my ODI's.
Jeeeez! That's a handy acquisition if ever I've seen one.

Would you really have picked him before it got around to me again?
Then in that case, I'm glad I picked him when I did.
I've been counting on him ever since we started this competition.

And even if he gets bowled for a duck, his average will still be over 40. :p

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

Yeah, he was at the top of the little list I'm compiling in Notepad. While we're on this topic though, we should decide how we will be dealing with the fact that the guys will still be playing matches. Do we use the average from the beginning of our "season" throughout that season? Changing the average everytime they play a real life game seems like a lot of work for Youngy.

That's a good point, entering new averages for 10 to 15 players after every ODI is played sounds like it could be a huge hassle. Sticking with one average from the start of the season sounds good.

How long will the season be anyway? Long enough that we'd consider updating things midway through? Or just wait until season 2 to update the averages?

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

well, we have 8 teams (7 + "England" to make it even).

I would propose running a shortish first season, just so we can tweak anything that needs to be tweaked, and so that everyone will see how fun it is and want to join. I could see everyone playing 7 one-dayers (one against each team) and drawing into two groups of 4 for tests (3 matches each) followed by some manner of playoffs. I'm not a big fan of tweaking rules during a season - I'd prefer to play it out and change things before season 2. That's just my $0.02 though.

You know, lots of English players are being taken so far. We might have to designate that 8th team as someone else other than "England". Maybe we'll see which country provides the most players to the team.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

Doesnt matter if English players have been taken, 'England' is just for the leftover scraps.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

Since we all mentioned Ryan ten Doeschate earlier in this thread, I just thought I'd mention that he raised his ODI average today, from 51.8 all the way up to 59.2. That puts him in second place in ODI batting averages, behind only Mike Hussey.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

So he's played in 7 ODI's as of right now, another 4-5 more in this tournament, 3 in the WC makes 14-15.....

Who's going to pick him up :D

you weren't supposed to tell anyone he was even close to getting 15

Though considering there's no guarantee he'll even hit 15 by the end of the World Cup, that's a tough draft pick to make. He still might be a full 5 months away from becoming eligible for this competition. By that time we'll all have drafted new teams and new players.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

I thought we had said we would have some carry-over from season to season. Not that I woudl likely pick him now anyway, seeing as how he wouldn't be able to play for me this season. I guess we should try to hammer out those rules now also. Here's my proposition:

We have squads of 15 for the season. At the end of the year, you can protect up to 10 of your players. The rest go into a draft along with all previously undrafted players, and we fill our squads back up. It'll make for some continuity from year to year, and make the draft quicker next time! We could also run the draft in reverse order of the standings in the previous season.

If a new team (or teams, hopefully) want to join for next season, before the real draft, each of the current 8 teams can protect 7 players, and the new team(s) choose one player each from each team, and we then proceed into the normal draft, with the new teams getting the first picks.

Agree? Disagree?

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

I think I disagree. I think the rules for next season or the expansion draft depend entirely on how many people want to play next time. If one new person signs up, that's one thing, but if 5 new people want to play, we'd have to make a whole lot more of our players available to make it a fair competition.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

This is true. Just so long as we agree that there will be players held over. It will be cool to draft prospective players and watch them mature - almost like being a real manager.

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

My idea was that we pick 15 players that are eligible and on top of that another 3 players that haven't played enough games, but they aren't available during the season but at the end of the season you can promote them if you want to, or delist them

Re: Fantasy Domestic League Draft Discussion

eh...I think it would be better to have to include them in your 15. Makes it more interesting to have to make a tradeoff of current flexibility for future reward.

For sure !! I want players to stay with teams. But i agree with cleazer. We will decided how many players can stay next season if there is more interest.

On another front. How long should the season be. And does anyone have a fixture maker.
