Just thought I would pop in here and say well done on such a quality thread about geelong cricket you have going. over 3000 posts in 3 months, just exceptional. I have a feeling your own sub-board is going to be created for you sooner rather then later :)

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Can't comment on a BPCA rep side sorry as admittedly don't know enough about the league. However, this would be my GCA2 side:

A.Saltamacchia
B.Smiljanic
A.Bourke
A.Gaylard
S.Illingworth
M.Cox
T.Calnon (wk)
L.Benci
C.Owen
C.Booley
J.Bosworth

12TH MAN S.Skene or G.Nelson or M.Troy

Come on big fella just cos your a GCA boy doesn't mean you have to jump to their defence every time someone challenges them. I think the game would be a cracker. Don't be so quick to jump on the back foot:D

BPCA TEAM OF THE YEAR TO BEAT GCA 2
1. Jason Mallett (BH)
2. Ash Poulton (Ang)
3. Mitch Herbison (BH)
4. Craig Biddiscombe (BH)- CAPT- 4th change if req
5. Jason Murray (St A)- 1st over
6. Damian Vassilou (Port)
7. Kade Norquay (Coll)- WK
8. Paul McGrath (Port)- VC- 3rd change
9. Sam Schaller (BH)- 2nd change
10. Chris Jones (St A) -1st change
11. Michael Fabris (Coll)- 2nd over
12. Matthew Cook (BH)

If your playing hardwicket, only need to one spinner Schaller, who causes imense toruble with boucne / turn and variations, while the pacemean will provide a test, Cook 12th.

If turf, the options of Mallet, Poulton of spin, espcially Mallet whose quicket skiddy leggies can be used to back up Schaller, Jason Murray to get quick and Fabris to swing em in!

Very good side, I also wouldn't have Cook in my best 12 there would be fair better candidates ahead of him IMO.

It's been a good discussion though thanks everyone for their input. I would be backing in the BPCA team though, having seen a bit of both players from these teams/squads I do think there is a massive chance the Bellarine boys would knock off the GCA Div2 side. :)

say this did go ahead, make it a best of 3 series. where would you play them? one on hard wicket, one on turf and, if it went to it, a decider to be decided haha.
what's the best ground in the bpca? you'd probably play the turf one at east belmont maybe?

im not supersaintjonny, just think that side would win easy.

looks a good side. we all should wait til round 3 and see how them sides would stack up on player form, then see if we would still pick the same side.

Maybe a 2 day game, 1 day game and a T20 game, I'd play the BPCA home games at Drysdale, super ground when in good nick and a great watching ground.

Calnon has played for GCA in Country Week as first choice keeper twice, has over 100 Div 1 victims and averages over 30 with the bat inc 5 1st XI tons. In 98-99 he had 24 div 1 victims and made 331 runs. The old GCA Almanac; a valuable resource!!
