Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I hope this season that the Geelong Advertiser pull there finger out and give local cricket the coverage it deserves, I like to see a page each as a minimum like how they done the local footy this year, maybe a pull out section with coverage of VCA, GCA1,2&3 and The BPCA, also include the juniors results.

There's nothing worse than picking up Mondays paper and having two lines written about the best game of the round in each league.

I remember in the week leading up to the first game the Addy use to have league by league and have all the ins and outs of each side and a write up of who was the fav's and who would struggle also quotes from captains. What happen to this? We don't all want to read about GFC all year round:mad:

Whats people's thoughts on this?

The problem is there isn't as much interest in cricket as football. Cricket is always going to play the bridesmaid to football. Look at the herald sun, in cricket season, there is still a couple of pages each day devoted to footy. Football has more interest - more interest, more addy's sold - therefore, more resources invested in it. I think it would be a fantastic idea of a pullout section, but I don't think it will happen.

Yeah I agree, but they use to do it, the write ups 5 or 6 years ago where good, it seems they are cutting corners thinking we dont notice, I mean we will buy the paper anyway to see results.
I like to see an improvement from last year at the very least.
There are over 2500 people that play senior cricket in Geelong and 4 times as many juniors, surely they can show a little repect instead of the rubbish they dish up every Mon & Fri:confused:

Everyone on this forum love me, as no one else gives nothing......

A bunch of sooks that wait for someone else to stand up and say something and shoot him down. well my fellow forum wankers. This is your captain speaking.

It appears you may have a mutiny on your hands o' captain my captain.

Your a joke mate, you do know it's 2008/09 this season coming don't you? why not bring back Larry Greagan and Peter Mahon, might as well throw Damien Di Grandi in there, hey might as well even get W.G Grace in as the skipper.

Get with the times Renny, Calnon is an old has been hack, maybe your club should look at moving him on and even try a young blokes in your 1sts as a keeper?

Hang on a minute mate. I know Calnon is getting on in years; i think he is around 35/36 but Gaylard, Salts & a few others in those lists are also getting long in the tooth. Calnon kept well last year and made a 50 I think in the final against Highton. There possibly are a few up and coming young blokes keeping in Div 2. I have seen Kiss keep and he goes alright but if he is winning back to back batting averages in the 2nds then surely he is not playing enough 1st XI games to warrnt being in a Div 2 rep side? I have named Calnon in my side because his still playing good cricket and has the figures to back him up. If anyone thinks there is a better credentialled gloveman currently playing Div 2, by all means throw a name up. What about you Deathwish; you call me a joke; why don't you put your money where your mouth is and throw up a name.

uh-oh the slippery Italian is going to get angry, we celebrated his 25th birthday last year  well that's what he told us haha :D
Calnon would be 1st pick in a Div 2 Representative side as keeper.
The Geelong Addy needs more local cricket coverage.
Benci massive loss for AT, i am not dissapointed however :D

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Just found this forum recently. Great to have somewhere like this to discuss local cricket. As A.T. fan sad they won't have Benci or Strods this season. Will make things harder for them. I heard they put up an admirable effort to no avail to persuade Strods to stay. Just looked at his player stats on the website. 55 catches/stumpings, 520 odd runs at 1sts level and I heard he was still only 18.

should be yeah. we've had our curator on it every day with the heavy roller. not 100% sure if it'll be right for round 1, but we shouldn't miss too many off it if it's not ready

There won't be a better credentialed player because most 40 year olds have stepped aside for a younger bloke to step up and take over, so on that I'd be looking at a Strods.
I don't have any issue with Calnon being a good cricketer in his day but if he's still the best Keeper in Div2 there is something wrong.

I have no doubt that Calnon is still the best. However, i take your point. If you picked a rep side now on the best players; Calnon would be in it. For the future, I have no doubt it would be Strods. So in other words, Calnon now and keeping his form and development, Strods very soon. For the record, there is a young keeper at StPcc who is now playing 2nds and who played u/15 rep cricket last season. Can bat also. A year or two away.

Point taken I guess we were picking the best side at the moment so the best players should be picked.
