Shock horror heard that Marshall have signed a pretty good cricketer. Might play next week:D

dont say andrew williams from newcomb. batted well for newcomb but never played turf in his life. churches and bpca aint close to GCA. but will help them get over 100 runs.

I reckon our mob would go alright against most sides in Div 2. I'd have money we would knock Newcomb off at the moment as well.

I agree with the 1st part of that.
Respectuflly disagree with the 2nd.

Settle down there Mrs Beck. I dont think any of us (except maybe The Observer and The Cheetah) could care less whether the Beck is a John Holmes shag or a sharkbite shag!!

SSJ, I think you are right but Div2 is as competitive as it has been for some time; not many passengers at present. The test would be too see how you go against the perrenially good clubs (not sides); Thomson, Highton, St Peters, Torquay, Manifold Heights. A good test for you. I have no doubt you would get over the Marshalls & ATs (at present) with little trouble. Good luck with the installation of the turf and in making application to join the GCA next season. I am all for a club in doing the hard yards but considering St Albans will have turf in when they join the GCA next season (hopefully); straight into Div 2 i say.

I personally no the HUGE gap between GCA1 and the BPCA it can't be compared, Div2 isn't such a big gap if any having played a bit in all three of these leagues it's quite surprising how close the BPCA and Div2 are.

I know GCA people we scoff at this but unless you've actually played both it's hard to comment.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

i think renny hit the nail on the head SSJ. dont think you would beat the genuine div2 sides but no probs with the dregs though. most bpca sides would beat the dregs at present. if your club has 4 junior sides, 4 seniors and is clearly stronger than most in gca2 they will prob put you in. but dont be surprised if all the clubs bark up and make you go div 3 first and then earn it by winning club championship. GCA run by cock smokers who love power. i wouldnt accept div3, rather play BPCA than play that shit and becme a leyland brother.

This I agree with, the depth of GCA is far greater than the BPCA and this will be the major challenge. Numbers wont be a problem I'd say next year we'll be having 5 sides.

totally agree with this call, ive played in all three and div1 step ahead, only top 4 BPCA would match it with middle div2 but not top 4 div 2.

I was just saying in my previous post that next year we'll have 5 sides, juniors is strong with u/17s u/15's 2x u/13s 2x u/11s and around 25-30 kids doing in2cricket.
But I'd be very very surprised if we went into div2, we'll be made to start at the bottom and work up, the thing with div3 is it's a fair bit lower than the standard of the BPCA and it kind of defeats the purpose of putting turf in because we'll be playing on hard wicket every second game.

The club as a whole were very arrogant, the supporters were shocking.
I doubt there would be a club that would disagree with me.

I don't think too many of the blokes over there are arrogant at all, except for Shane Harrison. Couldn't be any more arrogant than Newtown, Joeys etc. Most of the blokes from that club are just knock around blokes.

So what else has he done then? Are you him?

naah im not him, just good mates and played juniors with him. i dunno stats wise wat he's done, but he's been picked to play one's. wasnt up to me. newcomb are struggling and he's in the best XI at newcomb. at a club with depth he probly wouldnt be playing up. but still, he's not the worst bat either.

I can understand what you are saying Shane and possibly the standard is similar between the good sides. The big difference is that there are a lot more good sides in Div 2 and it is a turf based competition, which by its nature seems to weed out the good cricketers from the park cricketers very quickly.

Mate you must be a young bloke and don't remember the shit they dished out at struggling clubs for the 4 years or so that they were up.

If you think it's right to leave blokes out of the ones and play a bloke that doesn't bat or bowl and just ignore blokes from the two's well thats up to you.

As for this young kid playing, I have no dramas if they come out and say were going to play this young kid to try him out. But when they say his earned his spot with good performances and his made 20 runs in 3 hits well thats just plain stupid:eek:

im pretty sure this is what i was trying to say b4. newcomb are struggling so i guess their just giving the younger blokes a shot and giving a bit of experience

I would have absolutely no doubt you will go straight into Div 2. The teams that are in Div 3; with due respect to them, are there for a reason and specifically to work their way up. You have turf, very solid junior program, solid committee structure. These are the pre-cursors; bang...straight into Divvy 2.

I think what might make the BPCA a stronger comp is that they are looking to go to an all one-day comp in the future which will suit a few cricketers in Geelong that can't play two weeks or cant be bothered with 85 overs in the field anymore.

That will be interesting to see what happens if that goes ahead, I think it's a great idea personally it's a shame we won't be there:(

We(St Albans) all hope your right but I just doubt weather the other clubs will allow it.

Put my left aggot on the comp retaining the same format for a very long time. Two-day cricket ; or at least a mixture is here for a very long time.
