General Chat 12/13

How big is the Mc Kinnon Old Mentone game and at a really interesting position. OMCC 8 / 87 needing another 19 runs to get the win. OMCC need the win to stay in the 4 and McKinnon needing the win to help avoid relegation. Any idea what happened to Airport West yesterday, their top order being destroyed at 7/44. Hoppers would be hopeful of an outright bringing them right back into the mix....

So has anyone got any discussion points that were raised at last nights South Presidents meeting?
I’m usually not a big fan of these meetings, but it was beneficial for all parties I think. I think we have all heard rumours about some disenchanted clubs – I don’t know if the reasonably poor turnout (about 60%) was reflective of that, but those that were there contributed to some intelligent/ lively discussion which was great

· The issue of communication was raised – I don’t think we as a club knew anything about the permits and clearances investigation despite it directly affecting one of our teams, and obviously placing a lot of stress on the executive

· Some good discussion about regionalising/decentralising the competition which I think has a lot of merit. We don’t want to be in a situation where we lose more clubs/teams in the south – and I think work has to be done to shore up that side, before more expansion out the other way. I reckon it probably deserves its own meeting, as it is a massive issue facing the VTCA – I’m sure they realise how big

· Too many times we put up barriers to people playing cricket – the deadline for permits/clearances, particularly for Lower XIs is one of those. Hopefully that goes!!

· My old bugbear the 4 day GF was discussed, but I don’t reckon I will get that one over the line!!

· Couple of other rule changes – field restrictions, the leg side no ball etc. Seemed a pretty common sense discussion. Astounded to hear that Paul Jenson (umpires advisor) was not consulted on the leg side no ball

· Coloured clothing was discussed – a lot of comps have gone that way. Seemed like the cost to players/clubs would be the only barrier, general consensus was – let’s get it on

· The points were discussed – I can’t help thinking the horse has bolted on that one though

· Plenty of other stuff (covers, Under 21s, weather)

It was good to chat to some guys (other club officials and the VTCA executive) after the meeting. I think that more informal discussion needs to take place. In my time in this comp I reckon I have seen 1 executive member at a game. My 2c – they should endeavour to get along and have a chat with some blokes/ladies who might have some intelligent opinions/ideas to offer, but don’t have the time to get on even more committees

Pat Quinn is the only rep I've seen at games and that's been 3 times this year!
Well done Pat!

Email received last night to Senior Division presidents was that Sth Caulfield to lose points and ladders to be adjusted overnight, yet still no update. Can't believe that with less than three weeks to finals, clubs still don't know where they offically sit. I understand there are processes that need to be followed but surely it doesn't take a week to update the ladders? Also in the email is that the VT arn't (at this stage) sharing with clubs why the loss of points as there is still another Senior Division club under investigation. Sounds like the VT have taken a leaf out of the ACC book on how to conduct an investigation!

And only one week to go in D1 – which was mentioned on Monday night as one of the grades affected

That time of the year to start the ball rolling with discussion on Team of the Year.
I'll have a go at the Senior Divison;
Mass Thilina SCCC, Ben Howell SCCC, Nathan Hawkes St Bernards, Bakes Yarraville, Hewy Beaumaris, Wayne White Mc Kinnon, Craig Osbourne St Bernards, John Seery Old Mentone, A.Dickinson Spotswood, Dan Schuppan Keilor, & a WK - any suggestions?
Jody Hutchinson was a close toss up for Dickinsons spot.
Pretty formidable side with most of the blokes able to bat and bowl...

thoughts?

Baker (YC), Thillana (SC), Hawkes (SB), Clarke (SC), Hewett (Beau), Howell (SC), Osborne (SB), Seeary (OM), Brown (GV), Hutchinson (K), Schupan (K)

No specialist keeper as no one has been dominant enough to take a spot - Bakes can do the job. This team would make 400+ most weeks anyway.

And no one would make more than 100 against them. It would be good to put them against the Subbies

I think the Hutchinson / Dickinson / Jay Brown / Jordy Clarke spot or spots could be argued over a few froffies.
I didnt pick Jordy as i didnt want to be biased towards my home club players.

Wayne White's not in your side - He's a cert for mine. Mc Kinnon has been a 1 man show. I know he missed some games but hes been dominant. My guess he'll be close to the Paxino. Others to watch will be Hewett and Mass Thilina.

Anyone else care to go a trifecta in the paxino?

Yeh I missed White, not sure how. He hasn't bowled as much but batting has been top notch. Should definetly be in. Imagine if he single handedly got McKinnon a win, to stay up in Senior Division.

I'll have a $5 Tri on Thillana, Baker and Seeary - but it could go to anyone in that 11 or 12 mentioned.

from the outside this seems strange to need two clearances for one player. Also strange that the vtca made a decision and then made another after south beat hoppers. not saying hoppers did anything at all just interesting timing with steve mac calling sccc in front of the exec and him sitting on the panel.

i think vtca has to make the vtca exec club affiliate free.

So am I getting this correct? A player has been cleared from a premier club and signed with oakleigh, meaning he's an oakleigh player?, but Sth caulfield are then penalised for getting a clearance from oakleigh for this player?

Bigger scandal the the Essendon FC drugs saga!!!

Surely once he signed and cleared to play for oakleigh he's an oakleigh player???? And then once cleared to south caulfield he's a Sth caulfield player once cleared by oakleigh to Sth caulfield?

Why even have south teams in senior division I they are going to be treated like scum?

Good way to kill local cricket and make players walk to other associations

This is just my opinion and I'm sure some would disagree, but surely it's black and white that once cleared to a club, he's a player for that club whether he's played a game fir them or not.

It seems very, very odd to me too. I would have thought a clearance from Oakleigh would be sufficient, since the previous clearance made him an Oakleigh player.

The article makes no mention as to why the club lost points in all four grades in which they compete, including (from memory) more than six matches in the Fourth XI. Which makes "He denied the VTCA did a deep-dive investigation of all South Caulfield's registrations" a very interesting statement.

Condolences to all at Aspendale after the death of one of their players while playing in the CMCA on the weekend. Really sad news.

From all at Hampton, our thoughts are with his family and the club at this time
