Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

Hell of a win! Well done Glenroy and bad luck Saints.

Had a look on today and the atmosphere was awesome.

What was the game stats anyone? Run makers / wicket takers etc?

Any critical part of the game that swung it in Glenroy's favour - missed run out, dropped catch, etc?

Agreed the atmosphere was awesome!

Both sides had their chances today. The saints just could'nt get two wickets quickly. Glenroy were able to build partnerships after almost every wicket.

I heard that there were a few bad decisons given and a few dropped catches that if taken at the time were quite critical...

Maybe jonty has a catching partner over the pre season...

Well done to Glenroy! The best performed side since Xmas and deserved their win. Congratulations to St Andrews who showed they are still a very competitive and quality side. Great game boys and a true indication both sides deserved their place in the game that matters!

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

I wanted to pose a questionfor opinion......

Seeing that neither teh A or B turf grand finals actually had a result (as in at least 1st innings points) what are peoples thoughts on the idea that when the day 1 and 2 are washed out in a GF, that the match resorts to a 80 over a side, ensuring at least a 1st innings result!

St Andrews batted for 60 overs and made 334 in great time, but still werent able to bowl out Glenroy in 86 overs. There was no incentinve in the end for Glenroy to make the runs. Is this too much advantage to the third team playing fourth??

I only pose this in this situation where 2 days of cricket were lost, coz if 4 days were played or even 3, there would of been a result.

Any thoughts???

I like the idea in theory that the side finishing lower need to win the game to win the flag. Understand that 2 days were lost but looking at the result in the context that you asked I think Glenroy did very well to bat 100 overs or so to save the game. IMO they had plenty to play for, they needed to survive time or lose the grand final- it puts a new spin on the game. It changes it up to test every aspect of the two sides and whether they are able to do it is another matter all together. I would think there would be very few sides who would have been able to bat time against St Andrews attack, so the win was very very well deserved. As i said leading into the grand final I would have put cash on a 1st innings result given the results from the year. St Andrews played the game as it should have been played being the lower finishing side and they are desperately unlucky but they knew before the first ball was bowled they needed to win, a draw was not good enough.

Tells us more Gav.......? Chippy should of been in there!
Chippy or any other umpire woulda done a better job. Allan has to remember the grand final was about the 2 playing sides not about him.

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

Was fortunate enough to get down and see the last 90 minutes of the game yesterday. Very entertaining, with a fantastic atmosphere and hard fought with neither side giving an inch.

Didn't get to see Parker bat and I'm sure he deserved the MVP but if I was to give it out, it would have been to Schwarze. To bat for that long, under that pressure was a great effort.

Any thoughts on GF being played at Hosken. Being a small ground, I thought it really brought the crowd into it. The wicket looked a belter and yes the outfield was shit but so are most grounds.

So why did he do the granny.
I know he got a low rating from West Coburg in the semi. The boys were convinced they had Nev LBW at least 3 times before he was 50!!!

I thought in the B Turf semi Trevor umpired superbly, but I see he did C Turf granny..... Interesting

Did they bat too long? Maybe calling it off at 250 - 280 to give themselves more time to bowl? If they lost because Glenroy got the runs - well no different in the result. A draw did the same thing.

Hard question when they only batted 61 overs but should the saints have given themselves more time to bowl Glenroy out?

What did Glenroy make in the end anyway?

And i'm always positive, unlike the great you once claimed to be...

You must be proud as punch as your good mates from Glenroy have won the big one. I hope they rang to congratulate as if i was not for the "DROPPED CATCH" they would'e been watching St.Marys from the sidelines.

Is it true you have been down to the doctors to see if you can catch a cold?

King Kong you pathetic ape, why is it your stupid little brain needs to blame an umpire. You guys were just not good enough.
I was talking to Allan Taylor after the game and as far as he was concerned you had made 60 runs to many so he had to give you out LBW.. Nothing better than seeing you given out LBW hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
If i were you guys i would look at getting Johny Grant down to your club to teach you all how to catch!
Anyway here's to a great off season for you swinging tree to tree and eating all the Bananas and other fruits you can get your Ape hands on...

Congrats to Glenroy on a job well done, nothing better than seeing a real under dog get up. I'm sure you have made the people conected with your club very happy. You showed that you only have to put your head done to get it right and not carry on like some people from St.Andrews acting like they had it won before the game even started.

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

It was a fantastic game played in great spirits by both sides. I would like to thank all the St Andrews players who came back to our clubrooms for a drink last night, i know it hurts guys, but you were all very gracious in defeat. You play hard on the ground, but afterwards you are a good bunch of blokes. Well done Guys.

Glenroy CC, WELL DONE BOYS. No one rated us at the beginning of the year (and even at Christmas) on Big Cricket, maybe one or two posts (from memory) would have given us a chance of making the final four. So to be PREMIERS, GREAT EFFORT by all. With an Average age of 23, lets make the most of the next couple of season's boys.

P.S. Newts' keep practising your table tennis mate. It's no good!!!!

But he didn't mind belting out a tune or 2.

As Head has already said, thanks to all the St Andrews boys for coming down. I finally got to meet the great FOS (and he offered me a contract!!!!!). Great to have a beer with them and a laugh.

Also thanks to the St Francis lads as well for popping in for a beer.

Final thanks to the coppers that popped in and left happy that we were just having a bit of fun.

Plenty of laughs during the night and back there again today. Special mention to the young blokes and their nude cricket match at a very late hour. Final mention has to go to Greaney who may have conceded world record over throws on Saturday but was definitely the Mad Monday MVP.

Look forward to the trip this weekend!

Well done Glenroy it was a great game to watch. We had our chances but we drooped 3 or 4 catches, also we had 2 or 3 decisions go against us, but I think we got 1 for us. I would like to congratulate Coxy, Boston and all involved in the win. Lets hope when we (St Andrews) come back next year and win our 4th flag in & 7 years and 3rd in 4 years. It will be in the MMVCA.
