Hey didn't get a chance but pass on my congrats to Punky he showed a lot of guts when he batted against us, didn't get a chance to let him know that as the 2nd day was washed out. Hardest day I have ever played for batting and you could try to guts it out and wait to get out or try and score from balls in your area, he choose to gust it out and pretect his other batsmen and did a great job for you team. Frustrating for us but good job by him.

Yeh mate the wet weather line - I would like all the monitoring and judgement to be taken away from home clubs and you know why and you also know which clubs I am talking about. I always appreciate the time and effort you put in so we can play as much cricket as we can.
Thanks

I have to ask. Am I in the 80% or 20%?

I am not sure mate, I don't know you at all. Our game last year was washed out and we only played first game the year before.

So I give you the benefit of the doubt. Anyway who am i to judge i just worry about enjoying the time we have with our guys and also having a beer with some old friends I have played against for year and years.

i am almost finished as everyone tells me so just enjoying our ride while we are having some success. This year will be a funny year with some teams missing out only because of wet weather and some strange results.

I played in a side who lost one game for the year and did not make the finals in this comp. So who knows. We play you in a few weeks so lets have a beer and we can both put each other in the 80 or 20 groups.

Enjoy your cricket and enjoy your banter on here.

Burrito, thats a simple one.

On the Saturday just passed we checked several wickets from 7.30 to 8.30am and all the wickets were hard and the grounds were fine. We had no reason to call it off.

Two weeks ago the wickets were already wet when we inspected them during the same time period. At that time of the morning we didn't believe the wickets would come up in time. But we have argued whether that was the right call to death.

Hopefully that explains that one.

To be honest when I put my hand up for this job, I thought I might have to make a decision maybe 3 or 4 times for the whole season. But how wrong I was and it looks like I'll be kept busy this week again. :)

Bomber maybe you should take some of these fools that complain non stop out with you when checking conditions of grounds, maybe they will get the picture of how hard it is to make these decisions......
Guys get a grip we are playing dirty rotten park cricket, not lining up for the Australian Anthem on Boxing day playing for Australia. Blokes like Bomber are an asset to the league, why dont you cut them some slack and respect what decisions they have to make on uncontrolable weather conditions. Otherwise get a bloody life.......

Very early in the week but I think there are some great games this week. With westy, St Andrews and St Marys still undefeated the stakes are high! As I have said previously the comp was going to be close this and with the washouts it has just made everything tighter!
St Marys to beat Glenroy, St Franny's to beat the reigning premiers in a good game, Sunshine to beat The Socials, Easts to beat Pacco in another close one, Westy probably too strong for Haig and should win comfortably although their batting has been untidy apart from this game and Merlo to beat Barkly.
These two games before Xmas really could shape the finals for A grade leading into the break, and starting with 2 one dayers wveryone will have to be on their toes right from the start. Loving the 2008/2009 season so far, with a little more cricket it would have been perfect:)

Everyone seems to be writing us off this year but no one has giving me any reasons for our decline the coomon theme is old age but 80% of teams in the comp would have an average age of 30+ so im pretty sure that puts you all in the same boat us as and i will back our older blokes against any of your older blokes any day so start finding a few legitimate reasons for such a decline!!!! go sainters and bring on st francis this week really looking forward to the challenge of bowling to some gun YOUNG batsmen:)

Sainters 3 peat, you seem very defensive! I think I am allowed an opinion and my opinion is that your game sould be a good one but I think St Franny's will get the chocolates. Would you like me to attach reasons for my opinion? I'm sure what you have written is your opinion and you're entitled to it, it's a long season and to be honest you guys haven't played great but have won. Nothing wrong with that but this week is your first test and it doesn't get any easier. Have two STRONG wins in the next 2 games and I'm sure people will stop writing you off, struggle and maybe lose one or both and I think evryone has a right to question the great St Andrews.

In my opionion there only has to be a dicision on the first day of play whether to play or not of a 2 day game. If called of then a 1 day game next week.
If the the 2nd week has rain then it is report to the ground. This keeps things pretty black and white and saves problems.

Whilst we are on rain does anybody have any information on round 1 if we will play this or not?

Re: mmvca

Once again we find ourselves with great weather mid week, only for more rain to be heading our way Thurs, Fri and Saturday. If this keeps up we will have to swap the times of year we play with Football!
Look on the bright side fellas at least our gardens are getting a good drink.

Bomber looks like you will be in for more negative reading on here about games being called off, when we should be taking the covers off and what time we should be at the grounds etc etc etc... Enjoy the light entertainment coming your way!

Re: mmvca

Phil Eilers is a hack and is too old. St.francis were looking ok without him but will now be ever so reliant on him again. Never seen a worse batsmen make so many runs over so many seasons. This is a young mans game no room for old men. Look at jolley he is getting too old also. how many runs has he made this season? Nev has been impressive though!!

Re: mmvca

WAL05, I think you're a little harsh on Phil Eilers, he has been a stalwart of the club and everytime we have played against them he is the big wicket. That may have changed this season with the form of Babo, but still, i think he can change a game off his own bat and he cost us a semi final a couple of years ago (i know things can change overnight). Not sure about Dave Jolley or Nev as we play them all after xmas.

In response to your question, who are all the young gun batsman coming through? Babo and Chris Pipe are both young guns, and i don't know Chris David, but all the others guys who are in the Top 10 for runs this season would be over 30 (Harry from Sunshine may be younger than 30 though).

Schnauzer, I think this season has been unusual because we haven't seen all batsmen getting some good time in the middle. There are guys who you would think would figure in the runs come the end of the season who haven't spent time in the middle because of losing round 1 and washouts. Hopefully you will get a better picture of who to look out for by the Xmas break. having said that, most of the top 10 right at the moment should be there abouts but once the innings played start to even out a little the cream should rise!

Not sure how that works. You've admitted that he makes alot of runs and has done it over a long period.
In my books that makes him a very good bat. Phil's always the wicket that we celebrate the hardest when playing St Francis.
Wal, would be interested in your thoughts on what age constitutes old in cricket. I'd have Punky in the top five bats in the comp at the moment and he's no spring chicken. Sorry Punk:D
