Money Shield 2013/2014

Huge loss for Eltham, could have big ramifications at the end of the year. Heidelberg given a reality check by Stars, interesting to see how they bounce back this weekend against Greensy. BU could be in with a sniff after this round however have a tough assignment against Monty.

Big weekend of results, would think that Volpe would be back in Stars 1's this week, or Heid 2's could cop another hiding.
Heid / GB a big game, chance for Boro to put a mortgage on top spot. And send Heid back to the chasing pack.
Great win from our boys against semi finalists last year, not sure what has happened at Hurstbridge, still roughly the same side, a few kids coming through.

Having a look at the scores from the game it looks like Lower were the only ones having a crack. 64 overs to get 148 in front on a Lowers ground is not having a crack. Lower 0/74 off 9 overs is having a crack and from all reports lost a few wickets trying to get over the line. From what I hear the Groom's were involved in a bit of argie bargie during the game. Some things never change.
Any reports to come out of this "Argie bargie" or was it just a bit of lip

HB vs SM is a big match this week. If HB beat them SM can probably start planning for next year in B-grade. If they win its a dog fight that will probably drag on the rest of the season.

Lalor looking very good. Eltham loss would be disappointing, seniors guys got starts but didn't go on. They should be hard on themselves.

Having seen Greensborough choke in the Grand final last year chasing 120 odd makes me think they wouldn't want to play eltham and lalor stars in consecutive weeks in finals.

Eltham have a really tough draw after christmas. Playing all the other contenders for their spot in the 4. Will be interesting.

How did that work out for you tongs?
Massive loss,1 that I don't think a lot of people would have seen coming and with the run home they have it could come home to bite them.On the flip side well done to banyule on a great effort and a very very valuable 6 pts putting them 2 games clear of Relegation with games against Hursty and Wanderers to come after Christmas one would say they are safe.
On relegation and the match with the most interest this week,Hursty v Morang is a mini final for these teams.
Morang pulled off a shock win against them last year but something tells me this wont happen this year.Morang to B grade and with their seconds struggling it could be a Dbl blow with both getting relegated.
Match of the round for me is United v Monty
A loss here for United and wins for Lalor,Eltham and Heidelberg and it will be extremely tough for them to finally breakthrough for a finals appearance.
Monty with the inclusions in the last cpl of weeks of Cavigan and Weerakkody will prove a real test for the cashed up United.
Toss of the coin match

Nice review mate, agree that Mont are improving. I think Mont will win against BU. Would have preferred to get them early in the season, long shot for finals (i think i tipped them before the season!).

Hurstbridge vs SM is the most interesting match this week. SM bowling is really bad. They have had the wood over Hurstbridge the last few years, although its a very different looking HB team this week. Smith has always played and taken wickets, he relegated them a few seasons ago. SM don't have their team up, but if he plays (hasn't played all season) they're a chance. HB win and that will be SM's season over by Christmas.

GB should knock off Hberg easily in the other really interesting one. I think Hberg have had a good run and will now fall off the pace. Finishing just out of the finals, which probably reflects where they're at. Got smashed last game. They'll have played the two form sides in consecutive matches. The premiers will come from LS, GB or EL

Seriously, can no one in Money bat, three teams out below 80.

Must be great to be a bowler.

Heidelberg have had a serious reality check. Been hammered by the top teams. Surprising really... with respect to Cunningham and Crawford... they're not a "roll you for 51" opening partnership. Both are pretty medium pace. Dylan's had a good start to the season.

Eltham need to defend their 230 desperately this week. Gibbs starting to find a bit of form.

Jamie Scott keeps ripping through batting line ups.

Hurstbridge look like they've done enough to consign South Morang to B grade. Not over yet. But don't need to take any risks to get there. Only need Perera or Silva to make a 30 odd.

BU vs Mont is pretty evenly poised. It's a reunion for the brat pack. To be 2/120 then all out in 72 for 160 isn't a great outcome. Mont will need early wickets and will have to bowl them out.

No it's no surprise Heidelberg have been hammered by the 2 best sides in comp in the past 2 weeks. To call Crawford and Cunningham medium pace is a bit rich considering they are the most dynamic opening partnership taking nearly 40 wickets between before Xmas!!! Cunningham has had a good start to the season but so has all of the greensborough side.
Eltham have enough runs on the board to get a win.
This will really test BU to see if they are a top 4 contender or just making up numbers like lower plenty north Eltham and camrea

Might I say, wasn't it not that long ago I said well see how Heidelberg go once they play to good sides? There kids aren't good enough and the proof is in the pudding from the weekend. They had no idea how to combat the so called medium pace of Crawford and Cunningham!

In my opinion, McGann was quick, Perera was quick, Smith was quick, Premakumara is quick. By that benchmark they're pretty medium pace. No shame in that mate.. as you say them and Jamie Scott are the in form opening bowling partnerships. I expected Heidelberg to lose the last two games comfortably but not be bowled out for 51. Fair gap between the top 3 sides and the rest.

Perera throws it, premakumara throws it so they don't count. Yes mcgann and smith are quick but that's living in the past. Jamie Scott is in some great form as well, but sides that rely on 1 bloke to take wickets don't hold up at the end of the season. Heidelberg will prob lose they last couple games but I still reckon they scrap into the 4 ahead of BU

Agreed the top 3 sides are clearly in a league of their own

Just for arguments sake shortnwide, have you actually seen the greensborough side play recently?

Yeah recently enough mate. Nothing wrong with G'bergs bowling attack either. It just isn't quick. Has Dyl got a more aerodynamic haircut and picked up a few yards recently?

"Shortnwide, please enlighten me on how you need to be quick to get wickets???"

Not quick at all mate. These pitches rather suit your slower 'fast bowlers'.

I've been unfair, the in form opening bowlers are Barnett and Fraser.

I don't think Premakumara throws it.. although if he's quicker than you blokes he must right? And luckily for Lalor, they're a side who can chase 300.

Shortnwide

you stated that Greensborough isn't a "roll you for 51" opening partnership, and alluded to them as not being quick enough to bowl a side out for a low total, by then comparing them to McGann, Perera etc... yet you now state that these pitches suit their "slower fast bowlers", so which is it?

You said you saw them recently, so which side did you see them beat, and did you stay for both weeks?
