Re: Pakistan in Australia

Hussey stays now. Pressure is still on, but Hussey stays.

Which is where the problem is.

I have to say that is the way the order is going to be. It will work, and work well, the only question is, can it work better?

Re: Pakistan in Australia

well i'm fine with hussey there honestly, but whether he decides his time is up and wants to quit on good terms or if he wants to let himself go do down kicking and screaming is up to him...

Also thaqt order would be what i'd like to see now apart from put clarke back too 5 and put hussey at 4... north will have his time I just think he was rushed into an understrength side as a sort of saviour attempt, and to his credt he did well but now it's done...

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Watson should be batting in the top 4, I have never thought of him as a middle order player, and I really don't know where that idea has come from.

He is a technically correct player who should be at the top of the order.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I honestly cant agree with you, he needs to be either 5 or 6 that's just how i see it though and i'm not here to make enemies, he may very well be technically correct but he just can't hold his wicket without getting completely bogged down...

That has never been a top order player... always batted 5 and 6 until his sudden decision to open.

He is a technically correct player. So is Haddin. Should Haddin open then?

He is also a big hitter/quick scorer. That is perfect when you are batting with the tail and don't know if you are going to be there long. He has plenty of experience with that. If North was batting with the tail he could score 4 runs by the time they are all out in a mini collapse. Watson could get 4 an over and be 20 runs extra by the time that happens.

He just suited there. Nothing wrong with it, but that's my take on it.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

What with Maher, Broad, Phillipson, Hayden, Nash, Love, Perren, Symonds and Hopes all batting there? I'm a Queenslander too, and have watched it for just as long. He has been at 5 or 6 for most the years I've watched him.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

In the paper this morning, they had a bit saying Marcus North needs to impress in the next coming tests, and suggested a swap for Steve Smith, making him the genuine all rounder. I dont think it sounds to bad. Any thoughts?

I think pakistan will be the biggest chance to win if they can win the toss and bat. 5th day pitch will obviously suit the 2 spinners, and will also suit Mohammed Asif, who, when he hits the right areas, at the S.C.G, will get some big big movement off the pitch.

Also good to see Mitchell Johnson take some genuine wickets. As i said before, i didnt think his form was quite up to his usual standards, and if you watched the Windies series and the M.C.G test, you could see the difference.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Rauf's been sent home after his poor performance in the Boxing Day Test, Fawad Alam has also been put on a place back to Pakistan. Danish Kaneria is the most likely candidate to replace Rauf and will probably be the only change to the side.

Australia have named an unchanged eleven.

When did they start using 'drop ins' at the MCG?

Late 80's or early 90's it was, when the VFL started going national and became the AFL.

IMO if North went through his whole career as a Test cricketer, I think he would average 45-50. I don't think Smith has that capability, although I haven't seen him play all that much. Is he really good enough to be a proper all rounder, putting say Watson as a guideline? As I said I haven't watched him play that much so I'm asking.

I don't know what to make of North really. I like him a lot as a player, but I cannot see his point in the team. I just find it strange. He should be being prepared as Hussey's or Ponting's replacement come their retirement. This could be the plan to have him waiting at six, perhaps they are planning ahead to drop Huss, but now he has started performing just as well as everyone else in the team and his average is starting to go back up instead of down, they have gotten stuck. I'm not sure. Something doesn't seem right with the team and my cricket sense is tingling.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

If Hughes was going to come in now is the time. Aamer out so only really Asif and Gul to worry about. Sami is nowhere near international class and shouldn't have the accuracy to really trouble Hughes with the short stuff.

I'd even question if Asif and Gul will trouble him much either. Neither are out and out 'bounce' bowlers but we'll see.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

whos brilliant idea was it to start a test on a Sunday? The same genious who decided to have the 4th and 5th days of the Perth test on a Saturday and Sunday? Way to utilise the weekends guys. Now the whole test will probably be played out while I'm at work.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

6/51 at the moment, Hussey and North out from consecutive balls in the previous over to really put Australia in a hole. Hussey has top score with 28. Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sami both have three wickets.

Haddin and the tail have a lot of work to do. Ponting's decision to bat first also comes across as rather awful.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

North scored more then Watson, Ponting, Clarke and Hughes combined.

7/62 now, Haddin plays a truly terrible shot, tries to go down the ground off Asif but top edges and Yousuf takes a good catch.

Nathan Hauritz joins Johnson at the crease.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

What about for the summer? He is terrible

Besides no one outside NSW would think Hughes should be there, Watson is the most in form batsman in the country and the captain and vice captain are pretty safe

North is one who should not be safe and he failed even though the review system incorrectly gave him a life

And who would you propose take his place? I hardly think you can denegrate one person when the whole team has been pretty sub-standard. Hughes looked out of his depth, Ponting played a terrible shot when the team needed him to consolidate. Hussey was out to a poor shot and Haddin had a massive brainfade and got himself out. Hardly the sort of stuff that you'd want to see when the team needed someone to knuckle down and stay in the middle for a considerable period of time.

North would have a few credits up his sleeve after his Ashes series. I'd be willing to give him some more time before starting to question his place in the side.
