Re: Pakistan in Australia

Well I said Hussey will top score in this match in an optimistic way, and now he scores second highest... but I didn't mean in this way...

Johnson will score a 100, Siddle will get out first ball (hopefully) and Bollinger will score around 70. That is my prediction for tomorrow :p

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Australia all out for 127. Very well done by Pakistan, brilliant performance by them. Special mention to Asif for a 6 wicket haul.

Pakistan are set up for the win, now they just have to be able to capitalise from this great start.

Winning the toss & batting on that greentop...WTFs with that.....:confused:

At 4/40 the shot Hussey played was a disgrace to the baggy green....and Haddin....well enough said,he's a DUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I don't have a problem with batting first, how does the old saying go, "9 times out of 10 bat first and the other time consult a team mate but bat anyway".

The pitch is still green and should still be good for bowling for most of tomorrow, we are by no means out of this game.

Mind you, if you bat first you want a lot more application then evident today, 3 guys holed out (Ponting, Hussey and Haddin) and really other then Watson and perhaps Clarke, most batsmen played poor shots.

And traditionally you don't want to bat last on the SCG.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I don't reckon there is a wicket anywhere, other then Perth, where you would prefer batting last.

The likes of Ian Chappell, Shane Warne, and Mark Taylor all said they would have batted but it was one of those when you wouldn't mind losing the toss.

That said, I remember a few games against Sri Lanka in the 03/04 international season when we batted first and gave up 150+ runs on the first innings but still went on to win the match.

But in reality, it was a poor batting performance, you know, Hauritz and Johnson put on 50 odd so you'd expect a bit better then all out for 127.

Kaneria will be dangerous and at least some of that threat has been partially negated by batting first.

Which most people wont accept, then again I think some of them want to abuse Ponting to take some pressure off the hometown hero who failed yet again so they start attacking Ponting for making the FTB bat in those conditions

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I think there is more rain predicted anyway, so that is only going to make the pitch worse. Might as well have batted first. The Pakistani openers looked tentative and did well to survive, so overnight hopefully there is a bit of spice added to the pitch and I am thinking the Paks mightn't make it too far over 200.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

are they allowed to keep the covers on overnight? even if they are they shouldn't just so that it greens up even more and then is like bowling on a trampoline... a very lumpy trampoline...

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Yes, the curators are under duty of care to place the covers on whenever it is raining. If it will rain overnight, the covers will be on.

But that also creates humidity and 'sweating' of the pitch and may make it still hard to bat on, like a light drizzle for example fell on it. Plus if it is raining all night the covers may seep anyway, if the rest of the ground is dry enough to play that is.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

well thanks for clearing that up I only ever get to play on synthetic pitches, unless i get called up to 2nd grade or when i play interdistrict... so not that often...

On the other hand, they dragged Geoff Lawson onto the screen and he said bowl (with a look in his eyes that looked like he wanted to come out of retirement just to bowl on that deck)

For once I agree with you Eddie.

Clarke played a loose shot, I agree, it reminded me of his dismissal agaisnt Jesse Ryder at the Gabba last season on 98 I think he was. Clean bowled.

I have always believed in batting first, we batted first in Joburg earlier this year in similar conditions and ended up posting 460 odd to set the game up for a pretty comfortable win.

Most people simply get frustated when Australia plays like shit, and they can't handle it, and therefore Ponting - as his the elite player and captain - is going to wear the brunt of it because he didn't score 200+ runs to save us.

You honestly think Lawson has the cricket smarts that Chappell, Warne and Taylor have. You could probably add Benaud in there as well. Those 4 would be arguably the most knowledgable people when it came to tactics in the county.

We won the toss and batted, we played crap and got rolled on day 1, it happens, it's cricket.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

that's the best outlook you can have at it really... we've just gottA come out tomorrow and try and do the same to them back...

provided that it's not raining...

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Can't let the bowling escape empty handed though. Just because the Australian's have a batting collapse doesn't mean it was simply because they didn't bat well enough, playing rash shots that 'throw your wicket away' is quite often brought on great bowling, and although I didn't see much of the first day, what I did see the bowlers had it over the batsmen.

why wouldn't he? He played 46 tests, 79 ODIs, Captained and coached NSW and coached Pakistan, in addition to commentating on both radio and tv. You don't get to near 50 tests and become a national coach without a pretty good knowledge of the game.
