The main advantage of replacing North is it gets him out of the field, that was a shocking drop and should they lose it will be all his fault, if Pakistan lost that early wicket they would have crumbled and probably been out for less than 220

It was a drop anyone could have made. He is a pretty good slip fielder and has taken more than two spectacular catches there for Australia so far, plus he has taken almost every regulation one since. I remember Ponting putting down a sitter not long ago and he's definitely no man to get off the field.

I do agree with you though that he is skating on the edge. But then so is Siddle with an average of 60 this season...

Re: Pakistan in Australia

As the commentators said he has bowled better than that and it wouldnt be as low if they had some decent fielders in the side, probably had alot more drops than others. Then there are the ones where he gets the edge, the keeper takes it and with Siddle going up the keeper and slips stand there in silence with hotspot showing a thick edge...

But Haddin summed up Norths catching perfectly when he went flying after a thick edge that was easily 1st slips :p

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I don't think Siddle hasn't been anywhere as good as he was in South Africa or even England, and IMO they weren't great anyway, but leaving that opinion aside.

Today once again he was at it again. One over he bowled a brilliant ball, almost getting the edge and Misbah Ul Haq almost falling over himself. Next ball, right on the money and he defends tentatively. Next ball too straight and it goes for four. Next ball half volley gets dispatched over cover. Fifth ball another really good ball that gets him playing and missing. Last ball and it's too short outside off and left alone. Then the next over he gets into a Brett Lee rythym and is either bowling too full or too short, trying to bounce him out with, what, 130 km/h. He gets the edge, doesn't appeal. Next ball gets dispatched for four. Then he has whole good overs and the next over goes for 10. It is so frustrating to watch.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Actually Siddle went up, it was the others who failed to do so, you can hear Siddle "Catch it, yeahhhhh!!" to total silence from behind

Then shouldn't he have told Ponting to refer it?

Re: Pakistan in Australia

if siddle was that confident about it he should've, but i doubt ponting would've seeing as he didn't appeal he wouldn't be all too keen use there last appeal...

You guys are crazy i reckon. Australia are way out of it at this point.

Pakistan are 8/329, the lead is 202 runs. Bollinger is the leading wicket-taker with three.

Im not sure they 'are way out of it', I think that may be a bit strong but whenever you are 200 behind on the first innings you will lose more then you win.

But it will require something special to save this game, let alone win it although a draw wouldn't be out of the question considering showers are predicted for Wednesday and Thursday. At the very least we need to make Pakistan bat again, to lose by an innings at home would send the media into overdrive. Australia basically have to score around 500 to have a realistic chance of winning the game, which you wouldn't put totally past the Australians to do considering the wicket will probably be at it's best to bat on during day 3.

Once again however, the chance of mustering 500+ will rest on the shoulders of the top 3 especially. The garbage heaped on Ponting about the toss fiasco won't help either along with his elbow, so in that regard it would be some ask to expect Ponting to get a big score.

To be honest, the way this test has gone it wouldn't surprise me if this thing is all over by the end of day 3.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

K.Akmal couldn't catch a cold. He's a horrible keeper from what I've seen over the past 2 matches, he drops even just normal balls carrying through to him.

EDIT: One would feel Marcus North is in danger.

Its funny, I remember last time Pakistan were out here Ian Chappel was giving Akmal huge raps for his keeping skills. Maybe his keeping has got worse. His batting has been dreadful as well.

Meanwhile, bye bye North - I don't expect to see you for the next test.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Who comes in?

You could argue that the selectors have made a rod for their own back on this one. Still he wouldn't be the first batsman to feel a bit stiff on a selection issue.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Stiff? Every batsman in State cricket is stiff to be missing out whilst he continues to play

He just isnt up to it

As for replacements, none of these could do any worse, most would be a massive improvement

White (Plus 1st slip improvement), Dussey (Can accelerate the scoring when needed down the order or buckle down, actually capable of big scores and also another slipper), Voges, Bailey, Klinger :D I am sure there are others

Or the often talked about move of one of the openers who are not natural openers and bring in Jaques or Rogers to open

Re: Pakistan in Australia

North's probably in trouble now. He may stay on for the third test but he really needs to start making runs in order to keep his spot.

I'm really not sure who they'd bring into the side if North was dropped.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

George Bailey. Fine young talent who deserves a chance.

Anyone who says C. White is either victorian centric or on something illegal.

Yeah, one would think Bailey would be first in line. Unless they want to do a re-shuffle.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Neither Pakistan nor Australia won that days play, but rather Glen McGrath. What a wonderful, wonderful man he is and full credit goes to him and the McGrath foundation for the outstanding work they have been doing. Every year the Sydney 'Pink' Test goes ahead is another to go down as one of the greatest thing Test cricket has been involved in, and to do so well for breast cancer sufferers everyone who supported, and dare I say even watched that Test should be proud of themselves. Also well done Slats :D

Rest in peace Jane.

I can't see North being dropped, his scored 3 tons so far in his career so far. I can't see any obvious replacements for him as well.
