Several Fast Bowling Questions

What do you mean by 'hop'. Do you believe my back leg should come further in front of my front leg during the jump?

What level of cricketer are you? No reason for asking, I am just curious.

Taking off to the delivery stride with your back leg then landing on your back leg and then onto your front leg. You probably don't do it, it's probably just the angle, but yeh, as Liz said, see if you can get a video that shows your run up and delivery stride where you can see both feet, so we can see if you ahve a hop.

Second year u14B (our club doesn't have an A side in u14s).

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

I just took a video of me bowling (will get it up asap, the camera seems to have suddenly broken ) and was astounded by the findings. It would seem that I have corrected my jump over the off season, subconsciously. The jump is now much lower and I without a doubt bring my back leg in front of my front leg, like you are supposed to.

I don't know whether this was because I did not have a ball in my hand, because of random chance or because I followed Harowdrive's warm up, but it is encouraging.

Another thing is that my front leg is bent at delivery - I'll look to rectify that in the future.

oh yeh i guess
get a video of you at ur fastest

I'm not truly that fast. I can only really go about 5-10mph beyond what is in the clip. The views and the batsman do make me look slower than I am though.

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

yeh whats ur speed
have u been mesured??
if u havnt whats ur guess at how fast u bowl??
in km/h

Err...In that clip, I was 53mph which equals 85.29kph
Now, I am closer to 60mph (96.56kph)

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

Do it from approximately the same views, everyone looks fast when the camera is either close or at side on.

As I mentioned before, I have a video at side on but want to upload it for download rather than on youtube. Can anyone suggest a good hosting site?

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

Ok, there is no ball, because I don't have access to a large enough space, but here is me bowling from side on without a ball, trying to get further forward with the jump. Please do not link to this from any other website.

No, sorry Manee, still cannot access it. I keep getting a 'The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable.' message.

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

Cheers for that manee!

Have given it a watch and something strikes me as odd about your feet (foot placement) but I'm not quite sure what it is yet.

My brother and to an extent, I do too but I just can't pinpoint what it is.

PS: I have already noticed the bent front leg and will work to get that straightened. Brett Lee has shown the wonders of getting that front leg braced.

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

Having watched it again, I think part of it may be to do with the bent leg but also your approach.

The 'oddness' starts around your take off and into the delivery stride. When I get time I'll save the video so I can freeze it at points, will help to get a better idea of what is going on.

It may just be an optical illusion.

Re: Several Fast Bowling Questions

You have changed your action quite a lot from the last video Manee and you have slowed it down quite a bit. Does this feel natural to you or would you prefer to speed it up a bit? The little 'skip' with your left foot slows you down; you need to work through this.

You appear to have corrected the problem with your right foot but I cannot really be sure without a front on view.

What concerns me most are your hips; were they causing you problems during the videoing?
