Wow, what a game this turned out to be. Zimbabwe started horribly, losing Masakadza in the third over for just two. The fall of Tatenda Taibu for 14 gave Mashrafe Mortaza his second wicket and signalled a terrible collapse as Zimbabwe lost 5/21 in a little under 13 overs to slump to 6/44.
Malcolm Waller (yes, the team list changed from my post earlier) showed something with the bat on debut, making 24 before becoming Mahmudullah's only wicket of the match. From there, Prosper Utseya and Ray Price added 20 before Utseya mistimed a pull and got a leading edge to Mohammad Ashraful at mid-off as Zimbabwe sat precariously at 8/92. However, Price hadn't given up and soldiered on. He received good support from Tawanda Mupariwa and reduced the equation to 6 runs from six balls as Rubel Hossain came on to bowl the final over. With Price on strike he was able to get the first ball away with a slog over midwicket and then won Zimbabwe the game with another boundary to deep backward square.
A brilliant win by Zimbabwe who look to be on the improve over the past couple of months. They have Ray Price to thank with his four wickets and his knock of 23 not out coming in very handy for the Zimbabwean side. Ultimately it won them them game and earned Price the Man of the Match award for getting his team by two wickets and with four balls to spare.
So, Zimbabwe take a 1-0 lead in the series after a great win. Bangladesh will be very disappointed, a poor decision early on saw them bat first when they should have bowled and then some dismal shot selection cost them dearly. They've got some work to do if they want to win the series.
Bangladesh are cruising to victory at the moment in game two. Ashraful won the toss and smartly decided to bowl. The move paid off as Zimbabwe scored 9/160 from their 50 overs. Sean Williams top scored with 59 and Prosper Utseya made 38 as the got Zimbabwe to a reasonable total after being 6/47 at one point.
Nazmul Hossain took three wickets and Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain took two as the quicks did the damage to the Zimbabwe top order.
In reply, Bangladesh are 3/126 in the 35th over. Mehrab Hossain Jnr scored 43 and Tamim Iqbal 27 as they got the Bangladeshis off to a good start. Raqibul Hasan has kept that start going and is 37 not out.
Ray Price, Tawanda Mupariwa and Ed Rainsfrd have the wickets for Zimbabwe at this point.
Can't see Bangladesh losing from here, bowling first seems to be pretty big advantage at the moment and these low scoring games are something not seen often in 50-over cricket.
Bangladesh won quite easily reaching 4/164, Raqibul Hasan finished on 52 not out with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 13 not out and finishing the game with a four and a six.
Raqibul was Man of the Match. Series is now tied 1-1 with the final game starting on Friday.
