As I take over the commentary Sri LAnka are in trouble at 4 - 93. Tharanga is the only batsman that has done mildy well at this point in time in the match.
19.1 Rainsford to Mubarak, no run, shuffles across his stumps slightly and taps it softly back down the pitch .
19.2 Rainsford to Mubarak, no run, full on the pads and he tucks it back to the bowler .
19.3 Rainsford to Mubarak, no run, full again and he pushes it down the track
19.4 Rainsford to Mubarak, no run, gets nicely behind the line and defends back to the bowler
19.5 Rainsford to Mubarak, FOUR, he gets across to a delivery which angles across him, gets to the pitch and crashes an overpitched delivery wide of backward point, that scorches along the turf
19.6 Rainsford to Mubarak, no run, gets on the backfoot to defend but he gets an inside edge to the on side
End of over 20 (4 runs) - Sri Lanka 97/4
J Mubarak 4* (7b 1x4) EC Rainsford 7-0-31-3
WU Tharanga 42* (51b 6x4) E Chigumbura 7-0-35-1
Spin for the first time. Here's Utseya, he has a deep point, long-on and a deep backward square.
20.1 Utseya to Tharanga, no run, no turn, he gets a stride across and defends
20.2 Utseya to Tharanga, OUT, lands it outside off and gets it to come in with the angle, he is a little lazy on the forward defense and hence fails to get his bat behind the line of the ball, he's hit in line with the offstump, another bowling change works and it's the captain himself
WU Tharanga lbw b Utseya 42 (53b 6x4 0x6) SR: 79.24
20.3 Utseya to Mathews, no run, gets well forward and defends
20.4 Utseya to Mathews, no run, flighted on the offstump, he gets forward and defends
20.5 Utseya to Mathews, no run, flighted outside off, no turn and he defends again
20.6 Utseya to Mathews, no run, floats it on middle and leg and he thrusts forward and defends again
End of over 21 (wicket maiden) - Sri Lanka 97/5
AD Mathews 0* (4b) P Utseya 1-1-0-1
J Mubarak 4* (7b 1x4) EC Rainsford 7-0-31-3
Sri Lanka are 5/135 from 33 overs. Upul Tharanga has top score with 42 but no-one in the top order could fire with Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Kapugedera all failing. Jehan Muburak and Angelo Mathews have begun the recovery mission and have put on 38 so far.
Zimbabwe's spinners have done a decent job with Price and Utseya keeping the runs down and getting the occasional wicket. After a wayward first spell, Ed Rainsford came back into the attack and took three wickets and were in fact the three batters who I mentioned in the above paragraph.
This pitch doesn't look easy to bat on which seems to be an occurance of late whenever these two teams play each other. I think if Sri Lanka can get to 220 that should be enough for them to win the game.
Sri Lanka's total was more than enough. Zimbabwe were bowled out for a paltry 80, giving Sri Lanka an easy win by 130 runs.
Nuwan Kulasekara ran through the Zimbabweans early with Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza and Tatenda Taibu all back in the pavillion without even 11 overs on the board. Sean Williams was the next to go with the score on 47 and when top scorer Stuart Matsikenyeri was bowled for 15, Zimbabwe were 5/53 and the game was all but over.
The tail didn't put up much of a fight with Mendis, Muralitharan and even Angelo Mathews getting on the act. The wicket of Ray Price ensured that Ajantha Mendis would be the quickest bowler to 50 ODI wickets, achieving the feat in 19 games. The previous record holder was Ajit Agarkar with 23 matches. Mendis's average is now a quite unbelievable 9.82.
Kulasekara finished with neat figures of 3/13, Mendis 3/15 and Murali took 2/4. Mathews and Thushara also got a wicket each. For Zimbabwe, Matsikenyeri's 15 was top score with the bat whilst Extras was the overall top-scorer with 16. Not other batters besides Matsikenyeri got double figures with the next best being Taibu who scored 9.
Pretty average game if you were a batsman, if you're a bowler though you'd love this pitch. The spinners are going to play their part in this series with the pitches suited to the slower bowlers and any bowler really. Anything near or over 220 looks to be winning score at the moment.
The final qualifying match is on Wednesday between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh must thrash Sri Lanka to have a chance of reaching the final.
Match was reduced to 31 overs per side due to heavy fog. Sri Lanka struggled in the conditions and limped to 147 all out from 30.3 overs with Sanath Jayasuriya top scoring with 51, Jayawardene and Kapugedera both made 28.
Mashrafe Mortaza bowled well early on taking two wickets at the start of the innings and then coming back on to remove Jayasuriya. Debutant Rubel Hossain bowled very well, taking four wickets in a reasonable effort.
In reply, Bangladesh started horribly, Junaid Suddique was run out for a diamond duck in the first over, Mushfiqur Rahim edged Thushara behind ten minutes later and then Tamim Iqbal ran himself out for nine to leave Bangladesh 3/11. However, Shakib al Hasan has lead the recovery, scoring 39 from only 27 balls with three fours and a six. Skipper Mohammad Ashraful has doen the right thing and hung around for eight off 17.
Bangladesh are 3/63 from 11 overs. Required rate is only 4.25, Sri Lanka need to get rig of Shakib otherwise it could be all over.
Bangladesh only need to win the game in order to play Sri Lanka in the final.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 152 with only 2 balls remaining in their innings.
At one stage they were 5/54 before Raqibul Hasan began the rebuilding job. Raqibul ended up making 43 not out off 107 balls to make the match into a contest. Mahmudullah chipped in with 26 and Naeem Islam got 21.
For Sri Lanka Mendis and Kulasekara each got 3 wickets and Murali took 2.
In response Sri Lanka have collapsed to 5/30 off 14 overs.
Amazingly at one stage in this innings they were 5/6. Unbelievable stuff.
Nazmul Hossain has 3 wickets, Mortaza has one and Shakib got a run out.
