Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

A flighted delivery from Shakib al Hasan tempts Utseya to go for a big slog and he does but top edges it to Mabubual Alam at deep square leg.

7/155 from 44.4 overs, Chigumbura is 40 not out. Here's Ray Price.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

A slower ball from Mortaza gets Price swinging and the ball is hit down to long-on where Shakib al Hasan takes a straightforward catch. Price fone for 17 from 16 balls and it's 8/185 with one over left.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

A poor last over from Mahbubal Alam sees 20 runs scored and Zimbabwe get past the double century mark to 9/205 from their 50 overs. Some lusty hitting from Chigumbura and some wayward bowling managed to lift Zimbabwe to a reasonable total, Chigumbura was run out on the second last ball of the innings for 64.

Chigumbura and Tawanda Mupariwa are probably Zimbabwe's two best players at the moment, they've really helped their sides throughout the last couple of fixtures and they'll need to everything they can with the ball in order to restrict Bangladesh here.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Bangladesh are struggling in their chase at 4/80 off 22 overs.

That means they require 126 runs off 168 balls with 6 wickets in hand.

Siddique and Rahim were both dismissed early for ducks to leave the score at 2/10. Iqbal was the next batsman out, run out for 14 when the score was 32. Ashraful was then dismissed for 17. At that stage was the score was 4/33.

Utseya has 2 wickets and has only gone for 13 runs off his 7 overs. Rainsford has the other wicket.

Currently Shakib Al Hasan is on 27 and Raqibul Hasan is on 19.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Bangladesh have slipped to 6/107 from 30 overs. Raqibul Hasan was bowled by Keith Dabengwa for 23 and then Mehrab Hossain Jnr was lured out of his crease by a Ray Price delivery and was stumped by Taibu for two.

All up to Shakib al Hasan and the tail now. Shakib's on 43 not out, Naeem Islam in on 4.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Shakib gone for 52. Chigumbura gets the vital wicket.

Bangladesh 7/126 off 34.2 overs.

Bangladesh need 80 off 94 balls to win. Mortaza is the key from here. He does have the ability to hit big and make a good score.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Now Mortaza is run out for 3. Bangladesh have collapsed to 8/132.

They need 74 runs off 72 balls with 2 wickets in hand. Almost impossible for Bangladesh to win from here.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Another run out, this time it's Naeem. Nudged to mid-wicket, Naeem takes off but Williams is too quick and underarms the ball into the stumps and Naeem is short.

9/146 from 42 overs. Bangladesh have taken the batting powerplay.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

All over!! Zimbabwe win!! Mahbubul tries to smash Price down the ground but picks out Matsikenyeri at long-on. Mahbubul's out for 22 and Zimbabwe win by 38 runs. Amazing!!

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Chigumbura is Man of the Match for his 64, 1/21 and his direct hit run-out.

Zimbabwe have shocked all with this outcome and they looked pretty good today. Their fielding and bowling was really good and this was the best possible start to the new year that they could have hoped for. Bangladesh though will be very disappointed with their efforts. Their bowling was great today but their batting was very ordinary, Ashraful and Hossain Jnr threw their wickets away and there was three run-outs to boot.

The Tigers must beat Sri Lanka in order to have a chance of making the final. It would be a little embarassing if they missed the final of their own tournament.

The next fixture is indeed the game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka which begins at 9am local time on Monday.

Shakib was ripped off. 3/23 off 10 overs, 2 catches and 52 runs. I hate it how they always give it to a player from the winning side.

It's actually Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka on Monday.

Whilst those stats favour Shakib, Chigumbura's contributions are what won Zimbabwe the game. They wouldn't have been in a position to win the game had Elton not scored 64 and the wicket he took plus the runout are what secured Zimbabwe the match.

I thought it was a fair call. Chigumbura is one of Zimbabwe's better players, Mupariwa has done well of late as has Ray Price who is bowling quite well in recent times.

Damn it, ah well. If Zimbabwe win they are guaranteed a finals spot, hard to see them winning though even after today's effort.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Congratulations to Zimbabwe.

I could tell that they were improving against Sri Lanka last year.

I hope they win the series. :)

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

The second match of the series sees Sri Lanka up against Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field.

Jayasuriya and Tharanga are opening the batting for Sri Lanka.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Sri Lanka XI: Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, +Kumar Sangakkara, *Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews, Chamara Kapugedera, Jehan Mubarak, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis

Zimbabwe XI: Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza, +Tatenda Taibu, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Sean Williams, Elton Chigumbura, Keith Dabengwa, *Prosper Utseya, Ray Price, Tawanda Mupariwa, Ed Rainsford

Sri Lanka have raced to 0/25 in the 5th over. Pitch has quite a green tinge to it so there's plenty to work with for the bowlers. Rainsford's first over was a shocker, nine ball over cost 12 runs. Zimbabwe have bowled seven wides already.

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Zimabawe should have batted first IMO.

If Jayasuriya gets going here they are in deep trouble. :(

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

This is good work by Zimbabwe. :)

IS there anything against the forum rules if I start posting the cricinfo commentary ?

Re: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Bangladesh

Since no one has bothered to clarify this for me I will do it anyway if I get an infraction then I get an infraction.
