The BaggyGreens Thread

I try watching the ECL on Kayo but I only get two minutes in before turning it off.

All of the teams are full of Indians & Pakistanis who aren't good enough to play in their own countries.

I think Nathan McSweeney should well and truly be in the contention for the opening spot. Seems to be in amazing form. I believe he’s averaging about 80-90 in domestic cricket this year and just made a 137(131) in a one day match against Queensland.

The rest of the top 5 made a combined 18 runs and the South Australia ended up 218 all out.

Incredible knock and this is absolutely not a one off for him.

Has he ever opened. It is a specialist position and requires plenty of experience. I see Mac sitting in the Australian middle order in a couple of years.

He bats at 3 for South Australia and given the quality of their openers he essentially opens the batting.

Same here. An immediate turn off. More needs to be done by ICC to encourage home grown Euro cricketers.
Yep. I think it was the Czech Repulic vs Belgium or something I watched recently and the bowling attack was Indian & Pakistani. It was a complete and utter joke.

Yes he does. Well there is some noise that the opening spot is down to two, the prodigy and McSweeney. Like the kid to take the reserve bat role and Mac to get the nod.

Australia T20 squad: Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

Our next T20 squad minus Test players. Like inclusion of Johnson, Ellis and Bartlett.

Australia ODI squad: Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

With Test players. Dead set we need to be picking specialist white ball bowlers and let the Test quicks play out their career with the red ball.
How does Stoinis continue to be picked???? Another CA pet is Sean Abbott. No Jhye Richardson in either squad.

I’m fine with Stoinis in the T20 side, he’s actually done good stuff there but WOW how long is he going to be on the ODI side, he’s literally got 1 good knock on debut and a couple of OK 50s.

I’m fine with Richo missing out, he’s played about 2 matches since returning from injury and not done great. I’d rather he plays domestic for a bit.

Top wicket taker for 23/24 Chris Tremain will be kicking himself for not being fit as he must've been a big chance to take on a second string India. As was WA lefty Liam Haskett as the the best quick in the last CAX1 match early this year.

Batting order for the first unofficial Test will be interesting. Who opens adds to the intrigue, Konstas, Bancroft, McSweeney or Harris.
I'll have a crack at who CA will choose for the top 6.

Bancroft
Harris
McSweeney/Davies
Konstas/Connolly
Philippe
Webster.

My Top 6:
McSweeney
Konstas
Bancroft/Davies
Philippe/ Connolly
Connolly
Webster

I’d imagine McSweeney will be at 4, given that he’s batted in that position before in his career.

I also feel like Bancroft, Harris and Konstas are looked at more as genuine openers (because they are), so they’ll be put up the top.

I’d say:

Bancroft
Konstas
Harris
McSweeney
Phillipe
Webster

I cannot explain why Konstas would open over Harris other than that Harris has always looked like he’d make a good No. 3.

Didnt you tell me only yesterday that Mac has been getting these runs batting #3.

Dont rate Harris at opener or #3. Perhaps middle order away where he can play his natural game.

To solve the dilemma over which opener to choose for the First Border/Gavaskar Test, reckon CA will use a separate opening pair for each of these two A matches.

I did say that yes, and he has been getting them at 3 BUT he has also batted at 4 before and he’s more likely to bat lower than the 3 specialist openers in the team.

Well yeah Harris is not great either way, I more meant he seems like he’d possibly be a little better at 3.

Yes a seperate opening pair each one would be good. Although I think the combination of which pair you open with would matter quite a bit.

Would you put Bancroft and Harris together so that they’re playing on the same pitch? Or do you put 1 old(er) and 1 young batsman together ie Bancroft+Konstas and Harris+McSweeney.
