The Lounge 2

Not great for those of us that work outside!
I worked outside for years as a junior surveyor Kram, rain, shine, scorching heat, especially in the Pilbara. I really hated the Kimberly with its humid and high temperatures.

Flouro yellow clad outdoor workers here in WA are sun smart unlike I was 45 years ago. That's why I get an annual mole scan.
I even remember surveying one big remi rural lot shin deep in water in parts and drenched by steady rain.

I hope some were your ancestors Thomas.
Not really but my wife's father survived in them and managed to get out of Berlin before he could be drafted as an anti-aircraft assistant. Sorry Terry, life and circumstances can really be so cruel.
His wife escaped the notorious blaze caused by Allied bombing in Dresden as a young girl by the skin of her teeth. The other day I made her aware of the fact that if she had got killed as a 14-year old, a life lasting 94 years now would not have been lived. She got teary-eyed while she was listening to me.

Would you take refuge in an underground station rather than a bomb shelter Thomas?
Any port in a storm but if I had a choice, it would depend on the bomb shelter, if it's solid enough, where it would be located, how crowded it might get. Otherwise tube stations might be the only option yet only for those living in the vicinity. I'm not really claustrophobic but who knows.

This is for Jessica as dont you have a wood burning freestanding heater.
Wood-burning heaters can be dangerous because they emit smoke that contains harmful chemicals and particles that can affect your health. Long-term exposure: Can cause heart and lung disease.

I certainly do, and it's lovely sitting in front of it on these cold dark evenings 😃

I did that for a time, between journo jobs.
Brain dead work but I actually don't mind it, given almost total freedom every day and zero stress.

Low pay but not actually bad for what it is imo with the education department. Financially I'm pretty well off with investments so don't need big $ anyway.

Swim instructing is very rewarding work helping kids but it is easily the most underpaid thing I've ever done. Get about 10% less than gardening at the school and have to work twice as hard.

Gardens and maintenance at a school. Still a little swim instructing.

Other jobs was an electrician. Tiny bit in shearing shed and water drilling.

Mostly all outside.

Was wondering why it felt so hot today because it was only 33 then realised its because I'm not used of having to wear long sleeves and pants.

Agreed about getting hotter wearing long sleeves and pants in the heat Kram. Sometimes tho one should, like when gardening in the sun.
I'm in the midst of a gardening project currently and often have to kneel or sit down, so old jeans, hat, tuff gloves and sun screen is a must but leaves me sweating, especially if it's hot and humid day. 🥴
I just put sunscreen on my arms and get mole checked anually.

I bet we'll get several 43C plus days this Summer in WA. 😰 As long as it's a dry heat I'm fine with that.
