mate im captain of my 2's side and i will no way ever have a night watchman go in. i set the batting order and if so called batsmen want to act like snakes and slide down the order well they can consider themselves dropped the next game. you bat where you are supposed to bat. @|

Nothing wrong with nightwatchmen , just ask "dizzy" gillespie.. They are just part of cricket , as are drunken spectators who seam to find a voice after 4 stubbies!!
Great effort OEG , should get pts... Douttas to go for outright.... Early wkts for Altona could make things interesting although backing YCCC.... SC v Mck too close as is RPB v Keilor but nice to have runs on board !!

Get off YCCC's back, they have just done what every other club does when they lose a late wicket.

It is all about putting your hand up!! I am sure that none of the "top order" would have put their hand up to go out there. Even if Tocca said "no we are having a nightie" they still should have gone without a nightie. Take the game by the scruff I say:rolleyes:

From memory, I think Bagsofwickets himself was in no hurry to pad up late in the day.

Could always been found hiding in the toliets.

Loser RP/B V Keilor goneski!!!

Re: VTCA Thread

Just gotta throw it out there.. I like the idea of a night watchman. It's pretty deflating if your best bat is out late in the day..

Guess it all depends on the circumstances, but i am for it.. (and i'm not the best bat by a long way)

Re: VTCA Thread

My team of the year... so far..... (Bored)

The criteria is: good start to the year, and/or just an all round gun.

Baker (Captain)
Mullany
Contessa
O'keefe
McKeon
McKinley
J. Crouch
G. Frydas (wk)
Lindley
E. Bronca
Stonehouse

Apologies to:
Davies from Spotswood, but a ton and 5 for 6 v's chelsea doesn't count
R. Green from Doutta, never heard of him, but numbers pretty good
Docksey

If your favorate player wasn't picked dont throw a massive tanty, just give your XI

& now for the worst X1 in Senior Division:

M. Pickering (OEGS)

Ahhh, too hard. Far too many ordinary players.

Special mention of worst umpire to L. Howarth who beats a very ordinary bunch by a street, but still gets the Grand Final.

Keilor may verify this, hahahaha!!!!

Re: VTCA Thread

Fair go you blokes , think it would be best to talk teams than players at this stage.Though a couple i may give mention to. Baker and Bronca 2 standouts , money well spent. Magafas and Dunlop in A1 have started brilliantly. YCCC and Doutta looking strong.

Dunno bout that one mate.. I still rate him, and i think so do alot of other people. Obviously he isn't 20 anymore, but he still does a great job for us.

But i rate your team though.. Wasn't sure about simpson asa keeper, never seen him..

Re: VTCA Thread

Spot on re Bronca, we almost had him at FUCC but slipped through the fingers at last minute (assumedly when YCCC waved their chequebook). Seemed a genuinely good bloke and can defintely bowl - each 5fa he takes just rubs in more what mightve been.

As for nightwatchman debate, as an unfit top order batsman who is stuffed after 75 overs in the field, I dont see who it benefits if I go in and get out.... surely we are better sacrificing someone less valuable ?

So, if you use a n/watchmen, should he be looking to face as many balls as he can at the end of the day, or should he be up the non strikers end??

Really not sure how McKinley makes both teams listed here, 21st in wickets and 24th in runs is hardly a compelling case. Davies would have to be included ahead of him, even the Pom from OEGS has more runs and wickets.

You would think Ash Russell and John Taylor could still figure with good second halves of the season post suspension.

Don't really need to pick a spinner if you are playing Crouch as a bat.

Who are Crouch and McKinley?
They wouldnt even get a game with me at Kingy Bapts!
Surely you would have top sneak Garry Turner in there as the keeper?

Crouch is ok. But I would be reluctant to say that he would be ahead of a few others. McKinley, I have not seen him yet.

I think you need a reality check:eek: Gary Turner:eek:
