West Indies in Australia

Re: West Indies in Australia

Haha, I bet muscles smashed a few things in the dressing room. What happened to Ponting? .

Re: West Indies in Australia

Roach hit him on the elbow with a quick one.

Why is Hussey coming in ahead of Clarke, that's what I want to know.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Good day's batting.

No centuries, but from a match standpoint you don't need them to win when everyone is contributing half centuries.

Hussey actually looks like he is meant to be in the team. Finally a half decent knock without all the edges and lofted drives. I'm with you Kram, go for the hundred Huss!

Could have told you Watson was going to get a fifty but get out before his hundred before play today.

Katich... he must have almost killed himself. At least we know he's capable of the big score.

And anyone got any news on Ponting? I didn't see the last hour.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Ponting is fine, they couldnt find anything wrong with him

I would be interested to know how many times Ponting has retired hurt including times he has returned to the crease

Re: West Indies in Australia

Yeah, yay for Huss! This ton should see him through to next summer ... and I'm serious!

I'll lay off him for now, and comment again once they jitters come out again - maybe in NZ.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Hussey's score today will probably guarantee he'll play all three games against Pakistan at least and then the series against New Zealand. Hussey hasn't impressed many with his innings but he hasn't overly failed either and as long as keeps making runs he will keep getting picked even if they aren't all too convincing.

Pretty good day for Australia though, Roach was treated with disdain and had little impact, Rampaul and Tonge weren't that great and they didn't seem to have much impact at all. West Indies are really missing Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor who really added some zest to the attack but it looks weak now with only Roach adding any real fire. Watson was good again until he found a way to get himself out, Katich will be disappointed with his shot and then there was Hussey's knock. Strong position for Australia who are a big chance to bat most of day two as the West Indies' attack doesn't look very threatening. Australia could realistically declare at about 570, maybe even 600 by tea tomorrow.

Re: West Indies in Australia

I'm not trying to talk up Hussey just because he is to me like Ferguson is to A for Effort :p but that 81 he made on the first day was a normal innings. He didn't do what he did in Adelaide and not hit a boundary for 115 balls, he wasn't looking tentative and everywhere, but looking to hit the ball and hit it hard. He still looks out of touch but at least he looks like he's an Australia number 4 that is out of form, and not a grade batsman out of form, if you catch my drift. Good delivery that got him.

Looks like its up to North to score the first century of the summer then.

Nothing really to say from the Windies bowling. Just being dominated.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Um, correction make that Haddin to be the only Aussie to score a century...

Good 68 from North.

If everyone pitches in you don't need centuries.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Haddin gone for 88. Quite bizarre, the number of moderately good scores people are making without going on to get the triple digits.

Wish they'd hurry up and declare.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Well it seems as if there is currently a Gayle explosion. The damn news is on now so I have been drawn away for the first time in hours and apparently Gayle just hit one of the biggest sixes ever seen at the WACA. Would have loved to see it live.

He is on 91 with Dowlin batting very well for 31 at a normal strike rate.

All I'm going to say is don't judge McKay by this game, if Gayle is like this the bowler becomes redundant. Might as well underarm it to him. McKay should still be considered an unknown quantity until a later date.

This is one of those 'I can't believe it moments'.

Re: West Indies in Australia

There it is, one heck of a century!

Gayle hits his 7th six into the Lillee-Marsh Stand and brings up 102 off 70 balls. One of the best innings I have ever seen from an opener. And he said Test cricket was dead!

I retain my stand. This is one of those unbelievable moments. And I will also continue to root for the Windies.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Just as I post that, the next ball he faces against Bollinger he lobs a simple catch to Watson at point.

All good things come to an end, and that was surely good enough for me. Reminds me of the good old days with Gilchrist and Hayden. And to think he actually slowed down for a large portion of his second fifty.

Let's see if Dowlin can convert his very comfortable start into a big one and Sarwan to chip in too.

Why not judge him? He bowled a hell of alot better than Johnson and as well as Bollinger yet Ponting kept taking him off and so far he has bowled only a couple of overs, obviously another who will have to wait untill Pontings retirement to see another test

I disagree. Bollinger has bowled the best so far.

McKay's figures might show he has done alright so far but he has been pretty average at keeping things under suspense, like bowling a pie at the end of the over allowing the batsman he just beat three times that over hit a four.

Don't think I don't like McKay though, that's why I'm saying don't judge him off this. He is a better bowler than that and I am going to continue my standpoint that they have the wrong Victorian selected full time.

Re: West Indies in Australia

Eddie do you ever have your tongue in your cheek when you talk up every Victorian player as though they are the second coming of Christ?
