West Indies in New Zealand

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Taylor is on fire!! Since tea, he and Chanderpaul have scored 38 runs in six overs with Taylor scoring 28 of them. He's up to 81 from only 80 balls with Chanderpaul on 59.

NZ's lead has been whittled down to 74 and West Indies are 6/291.

This is some innings from Taylor, he's more than doubled his best test score and his best first-class effort. Can he score 100?

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Taylor on 97 now...

Man what an innings.

Will score a hundred before Xavier Marshall will.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

The 5th day was washed out so the first test ended in a draw.

The 2nd and final test begins on the 19th of December at Napier.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

New Zealand
Jamie How
Tim McIntosh
Daniel Flynn
Ross Taylor
Jesse Ryder
Brendon McCullum (wk)
James Franklin
Daniel Vettori (c)
Kyle Mills
Iain O'Brien
Jeetan Patel

Mark Gillespie (12th Man)

Patel comes in for Gillespie for a second spinning option.

West Indies
Chris Gayle (c)
Sewnarine Chattergoon
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Xavier Marshall
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Brendan Nash
Denesh Ramdin (wk)
Sulieman Benn
Jerome Taylor
Daren Powell
Fidel Edwards

Lionel Baker (12th Man)

Benn replaces Baker and the West Indies look for a bit of spin other than Gayle.

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Chattergoon hit one in the air through point but Patel went the wrong way and the ball fell safe and went for four.

West Indies 0/36
Gayle 29*
Chattergoon 6*

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Gayle out caught behind off O'Brien for 34.

West Indies 1/43 with Chattergoon on 7 and Sarwan the new batsman.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Marshall out for 6, caught by Ryder in the slips off the bowling of O'Brien. It was a fantastic catch.

West Indies now in big trouble at 3/65. They will once again be relying on Chanderpaul to make a big big score.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

DAY 1, LUNCH

West Indies 4/74

Vettori got Chattergoon caught at second slip for 13.

After LUNCH West Indies are 4/87
Chanderpaul 15* and Nash 5*

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

West Indies didn't lose a wicket in that session with Chanderpaul and Brendan Nash batting well to keep the Kiwi bowlers at bay.

The Windies are 4/154 at tea, Chanderpaul is on 46 and Nash is 34.

64 overs bowled so far today so NZ are well ahead on the over rate, they'll only need to bowl 26 overs in the final session.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

West Indies 6/258 at Stumps on Day 1.

Nash was dismissed shortly after the new ball was taken for 74 and then Ramdin fell for 6.

Chanderpaul continues the fantastic form he's had for the last 2 years and is on 100. The centurion from the last test Taylor is with him on 1.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Chanderpaul an aquired taste if there ever was a player. Worse shuffler then Katich and Lehman put together. But is effective, highly effective.

I remember last year against the Poms, he wasn't dismissed for over 1000 minutes straight and held the whole side up the whole tour.

Quality player, highly underated

Chanderpaul is the best batsman in the world at the moment. He is almost impossible to dismiss. He either bats through the innings or is the last man dismissed trying to farm the strike.

Amazing batsman.

Yet when people talk about the best batman in the worlds is Ponting, Hussey, KP, Sehwag, Smith, Kallis, Tendulkar. West Indies might be struggling but they have a world class batsman week in week out

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Iain O'Brien cleaned up the West Indies to finish with 6/75, his best bowling figures in test cricket. West Indies were all out for 306, Chanderpaul remained not out on 126, Jerome Taylor couldn't repeat his first test heroics, making only 17.

In reply, New Zealand have crawled to 1/61 from 34 overs. Fidel Edwards got the wicket of Jamie How after lunch for 12. The Windies bowlers have all bowled fairly well, very consistent lines and the Kiwis have been forced to be patient. Tim McIntosh has faced 112 balls for his 21. Daniel Flynn is on 28.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Congratulations to Shivnarine Chanderpaul on getting his average over 50 with that 126*.

He's always not out or the last man dismissed trying to protect the tail-enders, he deserves it, top cricketer.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

Bad light has stopped play and will probably be the end of the day's play also. NZ are 2/145, Flynn made 57 before hitting Fidel Edwards a return catch.

McIntosh on 62, Taylor on 4 and Edwards has both wickets.

The light has cost us 16 overs today, although one extra over was bowled yesterday the net loss for the match is 15 overs. Play should really be starting at 11am instead of 12pm.

And yet play starts only 10 minutes early.

Re: West Indies in New Zealand

McIntosh makes a 100 for the Kiwis.

Ryder dismissed for 57 after a 100 run partnership.
