Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

In matches I bowl well. I dont try anything new, i just try to pitch it up there and not bowl short. However, the odd short or stray ball is unavoidable for me lol. Anyway, any tips about why i feel like i am not in control and when i bowl a good ball, after i feel like it was a fluke. Is it phsychological or what?

Any tips on how to bowl the quicker delivery without going wrong?

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

It can be phsychological and for that u have stop thinking about it and concentrate more on bowling leg spin.
Leg spin is a diffcult art of spin bowling and because of that we find leg spinners bowling full tosses, short pitch or too much of flighted deliveries.
If u want to perfect ur leg spin bowling then try to practice "Spot Bowling"with a teammate.
It will help u to improve u r control on the line and length.Practice a lot on ur stock delivery that is Leg Spin.
Also while bowling in the nets concentrate on the batsmen feet that will help u to pitch ur delivery area as u will leg spin.
The most important thing is to have lots of patience in bowling.
U will not at times get ur bowling working properly with u line and lenght going wayward and concentration not upto the mark.
But let it go away from your mind for u should not loose ur focus at all.
Read my earlier post on the basics on leg spin and practice for couple of days and then update about it.
I am sure it can be worked out.
If possible;post a bowling video as well.

For bowling quicker it just the fast movement of your bowling arm.....but I would strongly advise to work very hard on your leg spin.
Practice atleast 90% on leg spin and 10% on other variations.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

when u see international spinners bowl their variations are spot on how do they achieve this when they practice their stock delivery 90 % of the time. So if i spend a whole net session practicing top spinners yes ill master the topspinner but then will i lose my leg break,. How can i practice variations effectively without effecting the leg break?

Also, any tips of what i can do to bowl with not tooo much flight without bowling short? Lastly, any tips on how to bowl my quicker delivery without it going completely wrong?

Thanks!
Buy yourself the Peter Philpott book and read from front to back. It simply sounds like you're not practicing enough - how many hours a week are you putting in and how do you practice?

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

Practice and more practice.
The international spinners have practiced a lot of their spin bowling and played many club matches, state level matches and even international matches.
As u practice and play matches more and more u confidence level increases and u will feel bowling naturally in you.
Also;all the international spinners bowl mainly their stock delivery and in between one delivery as variation to trap the batsmen.
So practice ur stock delivery for majority of time for if ur varaiations are not working then switching to your stock delivery should not be a problem.
U r selection in the team will be as specialist leg spinner and not as a googly bowler.
U will be expected to bowl perfect leg spin with ocassional variations.
Also varying pace is also effective.
So it all ends to ur practicing......the more practice the better....

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

I just got back from a match. I bowled so ****! :( Nearly every ball was really short. I just couldn't get it up there and when i did, it was full tosses and the occasional good ball didn't turn.

I can't help thinking while I run up, this is gonna be another short ball.

I just do not know what is happening to my bowling!

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

Sh** happens! Who knows biorythmns? Knackered? Stressed? Not enough practice? Too many wrong uns? Not enough carbohydrates? Too many cornflakes? Not enough concentration? lack of confidence? Star signs? Voodoo? It could be anything! Try and forget it and get some practice in - work on your core strength, do some exercises and work on your rotator cuff and just bowl better next week!

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

Basit,
Can u post your bowling video asap.
Need to see ur runup and bowling style.
Shoot it from the batsmen end and make it sure that it covers ur hand and feet movement.
Can u do it asap.

Regarding the bowling short problem did u try to bowl quickly to get turn and bounce and thereafter too much of thinking resulted in full tosses.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

I just tried to lower my arm just like everyone keeps telling me to do and tried to give less flight like evryone says. But i don't know why my bowling went so wrong. Usually I only bowl full and the occasioanl stray ball but bowling short, like I did in that match seemed like a thing of the past to me.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

i tried a new delivery in the net by putting the ball in my palm and pushing it out straight like a seam bowler, is this the slider. it went straight on and stayed low.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

I will try to post a video asap. Can you tell me how I upload it onto the computer after I have recorded it on my video camera?

Thanks virender !

RLB,
U :) seem to be trying new-new stuff.
I would personally recommend to practice more of leg spin than others.
I have mentioned earlier also that alomost 90% of leg spin and then 10% of other stuff.
Make ur leg spin stronger and stronger.
Regarding u post about that palm hold ball;I think i had read a post by Manee earleir in Bowling Thread:subject was "SLOB".It could be related with that.maybe.
But concentrate more on ur leg spin.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

Hi, I just came back from a match. Bowled really well :)

Got 2 wickets from abour 5 overs, dunno how many runs. Both bowled.

But I still keep having that feeling, like it was all a fluke. Like, it was just lucky balls. Everyone was saying well bowled n I kept thinking, I don't know how I did that. Any ideas whats going on?

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

That ball you described sounds a bit like a Knuckle Ball used in baseball - if it works keep it and try it every now and then, did you use it in the match where you got the wickets?

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

basit is sounds like you just need to gain more confidence in your ability to bowl rather than that much of your ability. i was lucky/(unlucky :p) to gain my confidence by bowling to some top quality county youths/ 2nds players over the winter learning my leg spin, bowling to top quality batsmen could help you gain confidence.

As to ripping lb that ball sounds a little similar to the offies arm ball just with more of the hand on the ball but will probablly just have the same effect as the arm ball but just be held back a bit more. It will go straight on (or should) but won't be the traditionally leggies slider as its still got forward revolutions on rather than backward ones. Though saying that what daniel vetorri calls his slider has forward revolutions on anyway.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

Basit...U got 2 wickets in 5 overs that is a good sign of ur improvement:)
I am happy that u have a memory to cherish and enjoy these moments.
Please do not question ur bowling by calling them as fluke...do not de-motivate ur self.
Enjoy the happy moments and practice.
Practice for more improvement.
Encourage urself(refer to my signature)

PS: Waiting for ur video and shoot it from the batsmen's end covering ur runup and close shoot of ur bowling stride.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling

i just got peter phillpotts book and im impressed with the great detail, he says when starting legspin you either bowl the over the top spinner or the side spinner , i bowl the over the top spinner naturally. Can someone clarify what does spinning it back to my chest mean, he says thats wat u do for the big leg break.
