Your Test World XI?

I can't see Gayle batting at 4 and taking out the all rounders spot in a world test 11 over Kallis one of the best all rounders of all time.

No one said Gayle had to bat at 4. Pietersen is there to do that.

Gayle could easily bat at 6 or 7 like Custard_Pie suggested.

yes one of the best of all time.
but on that account Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Chaminda Vaas, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and even Shaoib Ahktar would make the team.
its who played the best last year,
not of all time.
the simple fact is Gayle was a heap better than Kallis in 2008

I was not aware of this.

In that case I agree with you.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Neither was I , I'm pretty sure it is your best side of players currently playing test cricket. Not just on what they did in 2008, but what they have done in their careers and current form.

Who would you want representing you?

I would have:

1. G. Smith (c)
2. C. Gayle
3. S. Chanderpaul
4. M. Clarke
5. J.P. Duminy
6. K. Pietersen
7. M. Boucher (wk)
8. M. Johnson
9. H. Singh
10. R. Sidebottom
11. D. Steyn

Better than Sehwag, de Villiers, Ponting and Jayawardene?

He's played one good series, please don't get carried away.

There are other debatable selections in your side but this one if by far and away the worst.

If you think he hasn't played enough cricket then lets have a look at first class averages shall we:
Duminy: 3790 runs @ 54.94
Sehwag: 10094 runs @ 49.23
De Villiers: 4986 runs @ 43.73
Ponting: 19488 runs @ 59.05
Jayawardne: 13668 runs @ 51.17

There is only one player here with a better first class average. Duminy had a better year than many of these players and I think he is a good inclusion in to the side.

Mate, this is ridiculous.

This is a WORLD XI. If you want to compare career first class averages Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Fawad Alam, Rahul Dravid, Cheteshwar Pujara, Simon Katich, Subramaniam Badrinath and Phil Jaques would all be better options.

You're argument couldn't be more biased. @|

I put Duminy in beacause he had a good year and he is a young and talented player. Ponting didn't even have that good of a year. This is MY test 11 so I will choose who ever I wish thankyou.

I think you mean good month.

Re: Your Test World XI?

1. Smith(c)
2. Gambhir
3. Ponting
4. Jayawardena
5. Chanderpaul
6. Pietersen
7. Dhoni(wk)
8. Steyn
9. Sharma
10. Sidebottom
11. Murali

No real allrounders, but IMO you hardly need a Flintoff or a Pathan at 7 when you have 4genuine test bowlers, and Pietersen/Smith can bowl if necessary

Mendis has had a better year than Murali. Zaheer Khan has also been better than I Sharma. I'd also say Amla had a better year than Ponting.

Mendis is in the same boat a Duminy. Only played 3 tests IIRC. I don't think 3 good tests merits inclusion.

34 wickets in 4 tests @ 18.36 conceding 2.93 runs an over.

Invented a delivery called the carrom ball.

Ajantha Mendis won the player of the series award in the series against India.

I know about the carrom ball. Uses his middle finger to flick the ball like the game Carrom, can spin either way but he makes it go like a leggie. Great delivery. I still don't think 4 good tests warrants his inclusion, do you? If a batsmen comes out and, in 4 tests, averages 65 do you think he should be included in the world XI? I don't really think so.

No offense or anything intended in this post, by the way. I understand your opinion but I just disagree.

I accept your criticism of my post and if you say he needs to play more games before we can make a justified selection, then so be it.

I'm a big fan of him, he'll definitely be a star in the future.

Re: Your Test World XI?

this is my pick on form, it took around 5 minutes to think about so there will be errors. unlucky was flintoff (i think he has more potential than kallis but on form ill go kallis) i allmost consider mitch an allrounder now, i think he can average 30/35 with the bat if he keeps his form. i think sharma is the best fast bowler in the world at the moment.

smith vcpt
pieterson
sangakarra wkt
ponting cpt
kallis allrounder
yousuf
duminy
mitch
stein
sharma
murali
