Australia in the West Indies

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Katich has been a rock, 148*.

Jacques batted well and notched another century scoring 108.

Ponting was aggresive, Hussey fell and we are 330/3 a lead of too ********ing much for the West Indies to pull in. (365)

Two full days ahead of us.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

that wraps up a series win for Australia

Great batting for the openers, it will be hard to drop Katich when Hayden is fit.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Australia 5/364 early on Day 4. Katich was out for 157 and then Symonds followed shortly after for two. Both batsman fell to the spin of Sulieman Benn who has looked good with the ball this morning.

Clarke and Haddin are at the crease currently, Clarke is 20 not out while Haddin is on 2.

Australia's lead is 399 now.

Katich this series has really repaid the selectors for the faith they showed in him.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Australia are 5/439 at lunch on day 2. Clarke and Haddin combined well in the morning and have an undefeated partnership of 79. Both players are only a few runs away from their respective fifties.

A lead of 474 for Australia with five sessions remaining. I'd say we could see a declaration when the lead hits 500 to leave a short, nasty session for West Indies to face before tea.

Katich has played well. I thought after the first test that he wasn't the right man for the job but in the second and third tests he has come out and repaid the faith the selectors showed in him by picking him for the tour. He has certianly consolidated his position in the selectors mind. He is no doubt the first choice batsman now to replace anyone in the current eleven.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Australia declared during the lunch break at 5/439. West Indies need 475 for an unlikely victory.

They've started okay so far, 0/19 from four overs, Chris Gayle has faced had the bulk of the strike and is up to 7. Simon Katich dropped Marshall when he was on one, a simple chance at third slip. That's Katich's third spilled catch in this game..

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Casson finally got Marshall on 85, caught by Phil Jacques.

Well done onyour first teat wicket BEau.

Katich hold your catches man.

Binger should've had Bravo twice but them the breaks.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

West Indies 3/235 at stumps. Chris Gayle made 26, Ramnaresh Sarwan 43 and Marshall made 85. Clark, Clarke and Casson have the wickets.

Marshall has been one of the Windies best performers this series despite playing for Jamaica's second eleven. He seems to have stepped up well.

West Indies still need 240 more runs to win.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

West Indies move to 5/316 at stumps. It was an important session for both teams with Australia seemingly coming out on top.

Bravo and Chanderpaul fell shortly before lunch, two critical breakthroughs which have swung the game back in favour towards the Australians. Beau Casson picked up his second test wicket, this time he got Dwayne Bravo who pushed forward at a full delivery and was caught at short leg by Phil Jaques for 69. Chanderpaul fell in the next over to Stuart Clark for 50, adjudged LBW although replays showed the ball was a tad high.

We still have a game here though, West Indies need a further 159 runs to win and they have at least 64 overs left today. The two batters at the crease, Ramdin and Taylor will have to do the bulk of the scoring as the West Indies tail falls away after Taylor, who is the better batter out of the bowlers. West Indies won't have the services of Sewnarine Chattergoon either due to injury, so they will bat one man short.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Just as the Windies were looking okay, they lose a wicket. Clark strikes, LBW again, this time it's Ramdin who is plumb in front, the ball would have hit inbetween middle and leg stump.

6/345 with Taylor on 27 not out and looking pretty good. And a surprise to everyone, Chattergoon is walking out to bat. Great effort. @|

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Taylor follows quickly, Johnson bowls across him but Jerome can't help himself and edges the ball which Haddin takes with ease.

7/351 now, 124 still needed to win. That was Taylor's highest score too, 31.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Chattergoon gone, flays at a wide Brett Lee delivery and edges through to Haddin.

8/375, 100 required to win.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Australia won by 87 runs with Clark and Casson taking 3 wickets each.

Australia won the 3 match test series 2-0.

The next game is a Twenty20 on June 20.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Strong performance by all over the test series (probably Hussey was our poorest batsman)

Will be interesting what the selectors do with Hayden and who is dropped

Casson seemed to bowl alright, good signs hopefully

Re: Australia in the West Indies

It was good to see both Jaques and Katich pile on the runs for the National team, as they have done for NSW over the past few seasons!

When do you reckon Hayden will get the Steve Waugh "tap on the shoulder"?

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Hayden will retire on his own accord, unless his achilles doesnt heal.

He deserves that much imo.

Re: Australia in the West Indies

Says the Vic ;)

Re:Casson - Most neutrals would say he didn't bowl that badly- and at least he'd be around for a few years, as well as being handy with the bat, whereas old man McGain, would only be a short term solution.

Give him some time- if you judged Warney from his first test, he wouldn't have played for Australia ever again! ;)

Re: Australia in the West Indies

I also think McGain is a better bowler than Casson. India will eat Casson and this could destroy his confidence. At least if McGain plays against India and gets smashed we won't need him to play in the future years.
