that is Vicious!!!! I heard that. No doubt there would be still a connection for Hammertime (can't touch this)

After 3 or 4 years at naps, Dash may be ready for a new challenge?

Pretty true I'd say. he's been at the ground watching a few time sand has recruited Nathan Clarke to coronet this year.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Something new to discuss, the thought of all one day cricket is hurting me.

Who do you guys regard as some of the best sledgers in the BCA at the moment with Bambury (not that any sledge he gave me was well thought out) not in the bca

That is where his heart is at. He knew Clarke wouldn't play at naps due to a falling out with the board so told us to call him.

that is fair, i can understand that Hammer still has loyalties at Coronet since he is a former president of the club

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

having played under hammer and dash both at naps and for the rat, it would be sad to see them leave naps cos they have been such a massive help and has certainly seen my game improve and if clubs are smart and know what they are doing then it would be a smart move to try and get one if not both of them. They certainly know their stuff...

i don't think that they would go to every club would they, i mean they would have their limits.

i know our club would take them

point taken..i did enjoy a bit of banter and still do. my point is that if your going to sledge you must be able to back it up.. too many young blokes these days have quite a bit to say but dont produce the goods, leaving them wide open 4 a bit of friendly chat on the field..did u play with north shakes????

speaking of hoppy, any truth to the rumour that he is making a come back next year in a yellow cap??

i don't think there is a club in town that wouldn't talk to him to see whether he would be interested in joining their club.

Besides Irv is he mates with any one from the other clubs, i don't know him all that well

i think u need to know a few things cobber before you start talking ********.. there r 3 guys at east that played 4 other clubs. they also played at there other clubs right thru juniors and into senior cricket. they went to east, east didnt chase them..either thru mates or opportunity..as far as the promising youngsters go,they are in the a grade team and if there not, then their not good enough yet, just like any other club. im sure if you did ur homework b4 sprooking off you would know that there are plenty of players who have left clubs to another club.it just so happens that east got thompson, simpkin, yates and irving in the space of 3 years..people seem to 2 quick to hang ******** on east because we have been successful. we are not arrogant,we just play hard, competitive cricket.. are u sure your not indian...the a grade team has played in 3 out4 grand finals and hopefully 4 out of 5 this year, with plenty of home grown talent playing.do u see anybody wanting to leave east, didnt think so..just look at the club championship,we r there in the top 2 or 3 clubs every year. its time other clubs or certain people gave east ballarat a bit of respect.. its not just about 3 players that went to east a few years ago..get ur facts right moron or dont say anything at all... are you playing finals this year..go the custard caps...

I agree Potsy, a bit of banter is OK. But there is sledging, and sledging... Giving a bloke stick because he has no ability is one thing (and believe me I'm on the receiving end of a lot of that!), going on about his missus/kids is in my opinion bad form. Without naming names, some blokes should learn the difference I reckon.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I'm with flyslip. OK to make comments about cricket ability and pressure, pressure, pressure in the game - eg. speed of scoring, pace of bowler, importance of game, etc. No room for comments about race, religion or personal / family matters. Just keep it about cricket.

I'm not keen on guys who haven't achieved anything in the game getting into players who have played plenty of 1sts cricket. Gotta earn respect and prove yourself first.

Can you name another league anywhere in the world that teams dont supply afternoon tea no matter how good or bad it is. Spirit of cricket.

Most clubs are now preparing afternoon tea for Darley as well which is great.

And for THICKEDGE who loves stirring the pot at the lion cage, Capey signed last night for $5million over the next 5 years to stay at the club. Figures obviously arent true but neither is most of the ********e that gets posted.

I have played in multiple competitions over the years and have not seen anything like the BCA setup. The afternoon tea arrangement is a joke. The home team should always provide afternoon tea it is a tradition of the game. Darley do a great job down there not just for 1st & 2nd XI but also in the lower grades as reported back to our club. @|
The other BCA that makes no sense what so ever is that each club has to bring three stumps. The home team is resposible for the set up of the whole ground apart from three stumps. This is what starts the division between clubs before a ball has been bowled.|@
Good to see that M Cape has shown great commitment to Darley CC by signing on for next year and beyond. If the club keeps the base of Steenholdt, Cape, Dawson, Blake & Parker, they stand a chance to rise up the ladder, especially with some of the younger blokes that are playing in their 2nd XI.@|

G'day guys. Been interesting looking at some of the issues floating around the forum over the past few weeks. Couldn't resist any longer in putting forward my thoughts.

I reckon the BCA still needs to have 2 day games, but we also need to develop the other versions, ie. one day and 2020. Like test cricket, the 2 dayers give the chance for players to really develop and 'test' their skills. Listen to players like Gilchrist last week, the top players see the longer form of the game as 'real' cricket.

We should be looking at our competition to ultimately produce as good cricketers as possible, striving to get to premier cricket, vic country, state cricket and maybe one day Ballarat might produce a test player. Would Shane Harwood have gone as far with all one day games (max 9 overs)???

2 dayers spread the result over 160 overs, meaning the better side has the best chance of winning - encourages clubs to improve. Having all one-dayers could also see guys batting below 7 hardly getting a hit all year.

We could probably do with a better one-day format - 3 doesn't seem like the right number when country week is all one-dayers. Also lower grades could play more one-dayers.

Agree that 2 day cricket is the way to go. But only 3 one day matches seems like a waste. If you could squeeze a few more in it might make it real interesting with a few more rounds to be played. I realise Sat/Sun is not everyones idea of a good weekend, but what about 2 one day matches against different clubs in the same weekend? As for the three year rotational draw, who looks back to check that they have/ not played that team before. Don could be sitting in his office pre season and just allocating matches out..

In the lower grades however I can see the benefits of more one day matches. Especially in fourth XI with alot more juniors playing and a bit of hit and giggle.

The BCA either should read this site for the many suggestions to improve the game. Probably even better would be for individuals to take suggestions back to there clubs to lodge in writing.

Here is a start lets get a wish list happening:
20/20 comp over 2 Sundays - Great idea at least it gives each club the opportunity to compete with its best teams.
Reserve Days for 1st XI - Could live with that
Sat/Sun - One Day Matches
