yeah all good points on both sides. I guess its been the way it is now forever but just thought I'd throw it out there. Great call Cobber 14. and the forecast is for mid 30's so Flemington is looking a great option this weekend. Especially with the wallet full of cash I have after loading up on EJ Eamon at $2................

Lucky you got $2 bout Johno. The only odds we could get was $1.10 for him or 7/4 into a double with oloughlin Shaun and Cahir Rhyce in clearly/ davey double. No joy.

is there anyone else who can keep apart from matt ward because if you lose paull jeffrey you really need to replace him with a good bat not just a keeper.

Matt ward is probably the best bat in the twos at the moment anyway. So i would guess he would be a shoe in.

Go on, Pidgeon. Why say you? Do you think Ron Jeremy will have a big day with the bat for Naps at the top of the order. I think if he fires then there won't be much Mt Clear will be able to do to stop them. He has had a great year and seems to be able to take on all comers.

Haha, just try not hit full tossers back to the bowler this year. Can be very frustrating when you go out badly in a granny. And to have it televised just topped it off.
Training this week has been low key for the boys. Tonight will be a bit different i think. Few more catching drills i reckon after a couple going down last game. It will be interesting what we will do for selection this week. After all tonights the big nite!!! Do u think he will go?

I think Jeffrey will be found guilty and given a 3 match suspension. This will create a huge up roar is his home suburb or Mount Clear with the media labelling Wendouree a pack of liars and the locals will start to burn effigies of Don Jacobson.

Mount Clear will appeal the decision upon which Don Jacobson will come off looking like a liar and Jeffrey will get his sentence turned into a 3 match suspended sentence and be free to play in the granny.

hmmm sounds a bit familiar.

Only problem is Thick Edge has gone to ground and can't be located. Apparently some of the names who landed large bets through him included Mokbel, Moran and Co...............

thats gambling Thick Edge................. keep low is my advice mate

Did i read on a post here somewhere that Stick Murnane was gonna back Point to win the 2nds? thats bad news for Point fans - Sticker the worst punter known to man. Jumped on the Miss Finland bandwagon at the start of last spring and she hasn't been the same since. Last got a collect in Octagonal's farewell Australian Cup run and still talks about it.......

Looking to try and add to the carnival atmosphere at the 1sts GF. So we're bringing in a dunking machine and Stick has volunteered to be dunked each time a Mt Clear player takes a wicket or hits a 6. And the Big Man can't swim and wears a snorkel in the bath so a very brave offer indeed.

Looking for someone from Mt Clear to offer the same though of course. Any offers?????

A big congratulations to Eamon Johnson on last nights win.
it is good to see a bowler succeed on the batsmen friendly grounds
that we are all so used to playing on. Great effort.

not so sure about that Big Guy. So from October to March you work your arse off and gain top spot. But unless it rains come the semi you are all now on an equal playing field with a side that finished 4th? And then for some reason on Semi day you have a bad day or the opposition has an absolute day out and its season over. And you don't even get first option on whether to bat or bowl unless you win a 50/50 coin toss? Seems a bit harsh to me.

I take it you are talking about Naps/sebas 2nds who choked last three games of the year? Unlucky but the winner is the team who plays the best cricket from October to March.....not February.

Jeffrey got off. The next 2 pages are going to be interesting reading.

Word actually is that he was given a 5, YES FIVE, match suspended sentence. So.... that would indicate to me he was found guilty of the charge... of... encouragement??? What is going on at BCA headquarters? Is this possibly the biggest balls-up of the year?

Interesting to also read the report from our game at the cleary last night. Apart from the sheet being undated, it also reported a bloke by the name of yEates... Now we all know that it is Nathan Yates in question, as a matter of association as captain, but really, to not date and then to incorrectly name a player 'involved'... What the f***?? If this was a report laid in any country football league the matter would be thrown out due to the INCOMPETENCE of certain umpire(s).

MT CLEAR'S leaders Darren Fletcher and Paull Jeffrey have been cleared to play in the Ballarat Cricket Association grand final tomorrow despite being found guilty at the tribunal last night.

Wicket-keeper Paull Jeffrey was reported for dissent toward an umpire's decision in the Mounties semi-final win over Wendouree, with captain Darren Fletcher also having to face the tribunal.

Jeffrey received a five-game penalty but due to his good record the sentence was suspended until next season when he and Fletcher will miss the first five rounds.

According to the BCA rules, if a player is reported, the captain is automatically reported as well for not being in control of his team.

Jeffrey pleaded not guilty and stated that he was encouraging his bowler and fielders after an lbw decision was given not out.

In his defence Jeffrey highlighted his unblemished record of 230 games with Mt Clear as well as captaining the Ballarat representative side and playing 100 games of representative cricket.

Jeffrey said that it was a misunderstanding between him and the umpires.

"I'm very relieved to be able to play (in the grand final) and I am apologetic there was a misunderstanding and that I had to front the tribunal," he said.

"We can just concentrate on playing in the grand final and I am very much looking forward to it.

"We've put a lot of hard work in this year and it is a great opportunity for some young players to do very well.

Mt Clear captain Darren Fletcher said that being able to play tomorrow was a huge relief.

"We were quietly confident we would be playing this week," Fletcher said.

"It could have been the end of the season but we would have backed our teammates to perform. We would have been fully supportive."

The decision also allows Mt Clear to play an unchanged line-up from last week.

"The club has expended a fair bit of nervous energy (this week) and with the hearing so late, it made it difficult to enjoy being in the grand final," Fletcher said.

"It has taken a toll on the younger players not knowing if two leaders will be out there but we are looking forward to the challenge."

How can you get suspended for 5 games for next season and be able to play this year when the incident occurred. Just shows what a joke that tribunal system is..........

And to say he had a good record. he has prior suspended sentences.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

The question begs...If this had occurred 3 Matches ago, what would the outcome have been? Suspension this year or a suspended sentence?
Pretty obvious that answer.

Noone wants to get rubbed out for a GF but surely if you are on a caution and have some previous experience in this game, you would pull your head in for the season and be very careful.

Whether the things that were said were reportable or not is not for debate, he was reported, so the committee has just set a huge precedence. Any player being reported on the eve of future Grand Finals will feel extremely unlucky if they miss out in the same circumstances.

What were they thinking?

was it a suspended sentence or are they just postponing the sentence. Because if it is suspended then they must be found guilty of another charge before they are made to serve that suspended sentence. I doubt they would miss the first 5 games next year unless they do something wrong in the grand final.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

well they're obviously word smiths managing to talk their way out of that...just out of curiousity though...how is it possible to get a suspended sentence on top of a suspended sentence? Isnt the point of a suspended sentence that if you are found guilty again that you are out? hmmm....well good on em. Just means a win will be sweeter...
