I'd be happy to have $20 on Johnson and $20 on white then atleast if johnson wins i break even. I like the $4 for White, I think he will be very close to winning it.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

And you'd be happy if you loaded up on johnson...i mean he had to have been almost a sure bet with that many washouts. 14 johnson and second was white, dan scott, burns and steenholdt all tied with 9.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Noticed on the weekend that 3 of the 4 sides that finished on top of the ladder in their respective grade (East, Naps & Redan) all got rolled in their semi's. Begs the question should there be more of an advantage offered to the sides that do the hard yards all year to gain a top 2 spot? Possible solutions:

we can convert the 4 day GF to a 2 dayer in order to enable a preliminary final. So the final series still goes for 3 weeks but week 1 we have 1st v 2nd - winner straight through. then 3rd v 4th plays loser of 1st v 2nd in week 2. I guess problems would arise if 2 day GF was effected by inclement weather.

or 2nd option is to maintain the 4 day GF but then instead of having a coin toss in the semi's the side that finished higher on the ladder gets to decide whether they bat or bowl. For the 1sts and 2nds on the weekend in the 1st v 4th semi the 4th side won the toss and batted. Wonder if those results would've been different if the side that finishd on top got 1st use of the wicket?

Thoughts?

i think its just bad luck, if you finish on top and cant beat the 4th placed team you probably dont derserve to play in the grand final

I think you need to go with the pre lim and still have a 4 day grand final. If that means cutting out one of the one dayers then do it because sides that do finish on top do deserve a double chance.

not so sure about that Big Guy. So from October to March you work your arse off and gain top spot. But unless it rains come the semi you are all now on an equal playing field with a side that finished 4th? And then for some reason on Semi day you have a bad day or the opposition has an absolute day out and its season over. And you don't even get first option on whether to bat or bowl unless you win a 50/50 coin toss? Seems a bit harsh to me.

perhaps these 3 teams were smart enuf to work out that this weekend is both a long weekend & its super saturday on the punt & everyone in those teams decided that playing cricket on this particular weekend is stupid, so they did a 'roosy' & threw the game???;)

Agree Rider. How many teams go through and not lose 1 game throughout the year. Every team has an off week. maybe the argument is that good teams should be ready for the final and peak at the right time but surely you deserve a second chance. The other thing is I don't believe a team finising 4th deserves to play 1 final and win and be in the grand final .They should have to win 2 finals to make it.

The yanks go to extreme with their world series best of 7's etc but atleast you know the best team is the champion because they get more than one chance. Not saying we do this but all season just to have one loss cost you the whole lot well its basically unfair.

i wouldnt really say its equal. surely if the first placed team plays the 4th placed that would be an advantage to them straight up i would think playing a side 3 spots lower?

thats just the way cricket is i think? in the world cup there is no second chances if you lose once into the super eights you are out from memory? correct me if im wrong.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

yeah all good points on both sides. I guess its been the way it is now forever but just thought I'd throw it out there. Great call Cobber 14. and the forecast is for mid 30's so Flemington is looking a great option this weekend. Especially with the wallet full of cash I have after loading up on EJ Eamon at $2................

I think the team from the top 2 that wins and goes straight through could be at a disadvantage. Having the week off. Might lose some match touch???

Are we speaking of a personal or a team nature. Im guessing team and yeah the feeling is pretty good around the group. We have a pretty nervous seconds keeper who could make his senior debut that had a hit Tuesday night (just in case).
The main point we need to learn from last year is for the Mounties to not make the same mistake twice. We went into the second week of last years Granny with the wrong mind set and we paid for it. This year will be different in that regard i feel. I could tell you who i think our suprise match winner but ill keep that under wraps. Should be a good contest.

is there anyone else who can keep apart from matt ward because if you lose paull jeffrey you really need to replace him with a good bat not just a keeper.

Haha, just try not hit full tossers back to the bowler this year. Can be very frustrating when you go out badly in a granny. And to have it televised just topped it off.
Training this week has been low key for the boys. Tonight will be a bit different i think. Few more catching drills i reckon after a couple going down last game. It will be interesting what we will do for selection this week. After all tonights the big nite!!! Do u think he will go?
