Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Its one thing for the B.C.A. to say to clubs you must fill all sides or you are fined and/or eventually booted out of the competition.

Who is running the umpires association then? Why aren't the BCA actively recruiting? Why are the B.C.A. appointing umpires to games and not the BCUA. What is going on? Why are good umpires leaving (eg Dooley). The umpiring fraternity appears to be off the rails completely ...and getting worse.

My mail is that in most cases its not to do with player behavior at all but no more elaboration is given. Not sure what that means?

Not good.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I think you'll find that the BCUA merged with the BCA either last year or the year before, such that it is now a subsidiary of the BCA, with one position on the board/committee, as opposed to a completely separate entity.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Not sure why they would have done that, but if thats the case then they had better extract the digit before there are no umpires left.

From what I see there doesnt seem to be much of a campaign to recruit them.

We have put an ad in the Courier, an article in the Courier, emailed all club secretaries asking if they know of any past players who may be interested, we have rung all umpires that we have on our books that aren't umpiring. Not sure what else we can do...

What do you recommend Sticka? All serious suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Razza, the BCUA is only affiliated with the BCA there has been no merger. The BCUA is a seperate entity, but umpires are appointed by the BCA, and there is an umpire (President of the BCUA) on the BCA board.

As for those umpires that have left, well probably best to speak with them to understand why.

Steve.

Here are some answers to questions and statements made, I hope it clarifies a few things...
Answer1 The BCUA executive made up of Ron Bedford, Des Lloyd Greg Shepherd, Steve Bathurst
Answer2 The BCUA is trying a number of initiatives to recruit
Answer3 That is a question that a number of members of the BCUA would like to address
Answer4 What do you mean?
Answer5 Best to ask Dools etc about that one...
Statement1 I am not sure what you mean by that comment, I would love you to elaborate
Answer6 Not sure what that means either, however I would suggest that your mail is not real good or perhaps you aren't getting your mail from the right people
Statement2 No it's not good that we have lost a four or five good umpires this season, however we have got four new recruits who are all umpiring at the moment, most of those guys will be out on their own next match so that is good!

Cheers,

Steve.

A seat on the board and the BCA calling the shots sure smells like a merger / coughcoughtakeovercoughcough to me.

You can spin it however you like, Steve ... although having faced you out in the middle, they didn't turn much, if at all ;)

Cant of been having the best of years if you were facing Steve?

Although by the same token, that Pointies side must of been having a terrible year if Steve was bowling.

Razza, you're right if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, however the only sway the BCA really holds is to appoint umpires to officiate BCA matches.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure the BCA would love to run the Umpires completely, whether they do or don't we will see over the course of time.

Now Razza, when would I have played against you??

Only had the pleasure once - Round 3, 2005/06. You blokes made 300-odd at a pretty lush North 2 and we got them with more than 10 overs to spare. You were that disappointed you forgot to shake my hand !

Great to see the young (18) Darley Lions English recruits Max "Cuddles" Finzel score 137 in his second knock for the club. In a club first they also won all senior and junior games for the weekend. A nice moment in any clubs history.

The Vic Country selectors are looking for some names of potential players to represent them in the barossa valley this year (Jan 2009). At this stage teh ruggedly handsome red head Pyke is the only certain starter from Ballarat. I am sure some guys would like to add their opinions on who else should be nominated.

nah Capey has retired from Vic Country duties. just got engaged, partner is pregnant and moved into the new house during footy season. Body probably wouldnt hold up playing two weeks (100 0vers a day) of solid cricket anymore also.

Playing in Darley's first BCA finals is the main goal.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Hi lads,
If anybody is interested in playing cricket in the UK for the upcoming 2009 season, please message me.

We would be able to give you a job, a place to stay and pay for flights. Also there would be some payments for playing not dependant on performance. The clubs I represent are based south of london with teams from Eastbourne to Exeter.

Please private message me if any players are interested and we can go from there.

Cheers
David

I have been pretty busy lately, in fact too busy to get off my arse and go and watch some cricket.
How's Mount Clear going?
I did read an article on Darren Fletcher going great guns in the local paper on monday.
How is Roger Le Grand going at Mount Clear?

I did read one of the articles that was in the courier. There was a old guy who was going to umpire his 200th match. Good stuff, but what about the younger brigade? Surely you would have plenty of youngsters who are interested in cricket umpiring.
Why don't you see if you can organise a website for the umpiring department? It might actually help you with the recruitment of people who want to take it up.
