Need to get your priorities right, I will work on an appropriate penalty. You could lessen the penaly by getting the judge to speak and letting us in on the Barrack phone call!

Uncle Mick,

The old wet ball piece of soap situation that for years the CMCA has not been able to get right.Merl believes it should be replaced on a regular basis as it is totally unfair on the bowling side.I see a couple snuck in to those vice like mits!

I can just see the head line Corr and the hyphen put on record partnership to leave the jellies still wobbling.

Any news on the big Mick Smith Cup day yet?

until next time......... vino sipping poster........ Merlot

Not such a bad idea from you, Merl. Though we knew the rains were coming and chose to bowl, so we can suck it up and get on with the job. The old 'vice likes' haven't seen many come my way over the past few years. To get 2 in a few balls and 1 later on was quite pleasing to say the least. Especially with our track record in the field.

Mike Smith Cup was another greatr day after the early rains looked like scaring everyone away. In the T20 match, Omega went the youth policy and snuck home off the last ball chasing 148. I believe Jack Barclay representing Chelt Park romped it in at the half time sprint. Not quite sure what the placings were, but there was a photo finish on 3rd. Sadly, we may have seen the Mike Smith Cup for the last time.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Merlot, I will seek Mikko's thoughts regarding the tribunal on the next episode of the ANA Cricket Show.

As for the Mike Smith Cup, it was indeed a busy day, despite the rain pouring every now an then.

When I left, it did look like the Ommies were going to be too good for the Richmond/St Kilda combined cricket side. Jason Cloke was having a shocker in the field, but did well with the bat... he was strutting around giving the indication to his former fellow AFL players that they were now playing on HIS turf.

The sprint had a 6 entrants, with a John Steffenson lookalike from Cheltenham Park winning easily. Omega organise a great day for families with this event, and sadly Sunday was last of its kind.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

I was talking to one of the Bentleigh Uniting boys and he mentioned the beach boys have quite a handy leggy? Looking at the stats, they only used 3 bowlers and i'm pretty sure both bunting's bowl pace, so that leaves a guy by the name of r.dehann or dehaan? Can't remember how its spelt?

If they chase down the runs on Saturday, would definately shake things up a little.

They couldn't make finals could they?

Merl - as he always does, Bails batted well against us. His partnership in the middle with the new fella from Qld was a smart innings. They stuck around and pushed the singles and later took full advantage of our inability to control the ball after the rain delay. So far we've chased 262 comfortably & 203 extremely comfortably on the HWCC #2 confines and are supremely confident that if we bat well, we'll get the runs. The Hyphen may be the barometer, but Corr was last year's highest run scorer in the BRC and he's surely due for a big one soon.
Special mention to UM who put on a catching clinic in 2nd slip.

Auntie Mick Im back and missed you! XX00XX
( Got a couple of pin pong balls especially for you!! )
LOVE YOU LONG TIME!!!!

We're chasing 274, Keithy.

And got it, Keithy.

Pretty sweet victory. UM had never played in a win over the Jellynoughts. Absolute cracking game which saw us almost snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. A few moments of panic from us towards the end and their experience holding sway made it a last gasp win. Both sides probably felt hard done by on occasions over the 2 weeks, but at the end of the day a great game with the result coming off the 2nd last ball.
Good to see the Longy boys all there forming their own can hill and adding a bit of atmosphere after polishing off Kingston Heath early. Even better to see them come over and have a beer with us afterwards.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Up early today UM after what I'm assuming would have been a big night after a good win..

Cluden got the runs (just) Vs us, at 7/75 It was looking shakey, but 2 young fella's batted well with a bit of panic still to come, might of been a different story if Trigger was there for both weeks....MMMM'????

Cluden remind me of a youthful west bentleigh (say 6-7 years ago?), some very handy players & few old heads mixed in.. they bowled very well (best attack I have played so far this year, a decent spinner would be very handy for the cludenites) but their batting is a bit fragile, might be a tough ask to chase a decent score if required, but as they say winning form is good form..

must mention a top effort by a young fella making his debut for centrals Lachy 22 not out & 3/7 off 4 overs...keep it up kiddo, my fantasy team needs you!!!!

big game this week for the Guy/ Shaw shield... i think we will just hold our spot in the four, amazingly!! that 10 pointer a few weeks back comes in handy now.

can't comment on other results as not many listed on the site..most looked like fairly standard result were on the way.. HW chasing down another big score good effort... Dev runs again surely??

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

Out to rival the welcome back Missen Statement and the Woolnough Wrap here is the Merlot Full Bottle.

We have a new leader in the BTC a self described drunk who knows nothing about cricket but plenty about grog.Adam was one off the perfect score but his tardyness in lodging his tips sees him with the first one point penalty and could be more if the judge does not fire up on youtube.

The self proclaimed leader declared the season over last round but did not take into account a few upsets with more on the way to keep the BTC contestants well and truly on their toes.

ANA gave the pathetic old wallett park the hiding they desrved, while Merl's beach boys got the stutters but did the job over the lakers who dried up despite the herculian effort of chubbs and old man monkey who should be grazing in the bluff rd cup pasture.

Slim and his old mate Cliffy steered the good ship Omega home and no doubt slim and his young cohort were poured out of the Mackie rooms at some early hour in the morning having lightened B's wallett with a long drinking session.

The millionaires gave the hopped pretenders a mother of all hidings who now must regroup for the Gorozidis and that other blokes shield game next week.

The Panthers also got the shakes but squeaked past the unlucky ants to give Brudes mob the points.

Uncle Mick whose dulcet tones gave the Sunday morning ramble a bit of respectability even if they had to wheel Condeleeza out in the wheel chair to cover for both Jimmy and Tommy.Keep up the good work Uncle and get in there a bit more often something Hammer seems unable to do with the petticoat government.Special mention also to Adam for a great job.

ANA disposed of Saul's mob after a slight hiccup but the result was never in doubt. The oasisless bottsy's mob gave fast fading Omega a successive loss who need to find another win to keep in touch.

Merl's favourites Cluden who he unfortunately wasn't on again with his tips gave the Burger Bourbons a stumbling defeat which according to Burger could have been different if Trigger hadn't gone awol on the second week.!!!!

The RSL are now officially gone after the inconsistent laker twos deposed of them easily.Brighton Union gave the purple & golds their normal hiding while I read with great delight that the Jelly noughts twos are now nought and 6 and a bit like the Roman Empire how the mighty have fallen!!! Uncle Micks mob snatched a great win after slightly stumbling and giving the jellies some false hope yet again.

The all important ladder with Merl moving back into his rightfull place in the top four and our new leader PDog looking down on the rest of us.

I am stiil considering penalties for a couple of reclcitrants who have failed to give us a post mortem, which is now compulsory each week.

1 Pdog 11 4 7 10 11 8 51

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

just wondering why everyone seems to write cluden and in particular their batting off. we havent come up against them yet but they seem to be getting the job done every week. any big tips for rolling them?

is their batting that shakey, because looking at week in week out stats someone has always made a solid score to push them over the line...looks like they're young and inconsistent but the scorecards say they're doing alright at the moment

burger seemed to rate their bowling pretty highly, is it on par to moorabbin west?

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Burg - to the contrary bud. Dev got about 15, I think? And there was nothing to get excited about having a big night over. We rolled a side that was 0-5. Enjoyed being at the ESBC kids Xmas Party y'day and 1 of our boys taking home one of the raffle prizes. 2 wins in 2 days.

Massive round of cricket to take us into Xmas.

Expect Union to bounce back hard after an embarrassing defeat last round. The last game before Xmas has become somewhat of a tradition for these 2 sides. Jellynoughts should be too good. The surprise packets at Bricker have a chance to go into the break as a serious contender. Mackie will have their work cut out against an improving Le Page and Old Wallet Park should be a walk in the park for the Beach boys. The Heath are a sniff for their first win, but the Spiders should be too good. The battle of the homeless Bentleighs will consign Uniting to an also ran or keep them in the hunt. If the rumours of S.Brown returning are correct then the new Wallet Park may well have brought (or should that be bought) and end to the Jellynoughts reign. March is still a long way out though.

And in the BRC 5 matches will have big implications for the finals aspirants. ESBC could do us a favour by notching their first win against Union. An Omega loss will make it increasingly harder for them to keep up, but also give ANA a great run at a finals berth at 5-2. Centrals are in a bit of danger if they can't get up in the Guy/Shaw tussle - could be as low as 8th position at the break. Surprisingly, AERSL could go as high as 3rd if results go their way. A loss to our boys and AERSL could shut the door on both sides if Omega, Union & Centrals all get up. Will make it very hard to find our way in.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Merl I like ur synopsis....have to say ur right if u ask a few of the boys who went away with us on the Adelaide footy trip they would all agree- a drunk! Saully from the dog park could probably testify it as well.
Im back on the park this week for only my 2nd game of the season the condition was to play in at least 2 before xmas so i could qualify for the 'boat race' at the cricket clubs cocktail night.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

evening All,

Uncle Mick a very impressive PM has Merl thinking I will award bonus points for good PM's rather than deduct for no appearance.

Bottsy's that's the stuff we need, as I am not sure how the millionaire's salary cap will cope with another on the TPP,maybe the fiscal one who I see went wicketless against Keithy's best in the west could let us know how the TPP would be effected.

Pdog I didn't mean to be rude but it was your own self analysis that lead to my conclusion.Good luck for your game this week and where do you think you will play? Also where did Saul end up as I did not see his name in the dog park BRC team that was demolished by ANA.

Brett

Our deposed leader where are you and what is the strategy to haul yourself back to the top of the heap?

The Bluff Rd Cup major attraction of the season happens this week with the added incentive of the Guy/Shaw shield and bragging rights up for grabs! With a few BCF posters involved I will be disappointed if we don't get a ball by ball description of the big clash.

until next time.......... vino sipping poster....... Merlot

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Thanks Merl,

UM is a good contributor on Southern FM and should probably get more air time due to the unreliability & musical chairs currently happening in the studio. I think we'll all be grateful that Jimmy Olsen returns this Sunday.

As for the description of ANA's results on the weekend, the latest episode of the Bentleigh ANA Cricket Show on is now able to be viewed via the Home Page of he ANA Website.

How does this work for someone who has next to no involvement in the CMCA anymore but enjoys casting a regular eye over the score sheet.
Merl allow some constructive criticism, your tipping comp is going well but it will become farcical if you started trying to be clever with adding or removing points.
Some people are just way to busy to spend a hr and write a report, you are turning into a power driven school teacher who is removing and adding a star on the grade 3 star pupil chart?
Just leave it as it is i say, the people who are able to post reviews like UM and yourself we can enjoy reading etc etc.

Think i have got my point across.:D

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Have to agree with the great Mordialloc coach on this one how can u get out there and write a match review / report when u dont see much cricket? Ive been lucky to see 2 days of cricket this season....dont know if thats got something to do with having the beer goggles on 24/7? Anyway will report after this week when i have my second hit for the season!
