Home of Australian Grassroots Cricket

Finally you have a bat. Hit some good shots and your bowling action is looking better and better mate.

Yeah I changed the order of my load up slightly and I’m definitely flowing through the crease a lot better. It’s more a matter of getting used to it for now.

I’m honestly more of a longer format batsman, I need a bit of time to work in and can rotate the strike well. The shot I got out to was my just trying to smash it over backward square because they had no one there.

keep Head at 5 than put McSweeney at 5

Were you aware you posted this on Reddit, the reason I replied as I did. I wasnt being sarco. Had to be a typo as I expect you meant to say, ''put MCS at 4'' not 5.

Dead set not sure how long Head can continue with the form he has shown last two years. I see him as so close to a run of outs, may even happen in this BGT series.

Yeah I think that’s what I would have meant my bad.

Head is difficult, similar boat to Maxwell, he can just switch on and be incredible for us very quickly.

Although tbh his recent LOI form does give me some hope that he’ll be better in tests again.

One thing I’ve noticed between when he’s batting good and bad is that when he’s on he’s really good at flicking/working full and straight balls over mid wicket. He doesn’t seem to do this when he isn’t batting well.

Forgot to post the stream link before my game again.

Didn’t bat

Bowl 2 overs at 2:03:38.

Come back on at 2:39:00 and bowl my last 2.

Took 1-12(4) defending 124, easily the best I’ve bowled in a cricket match. Started off with the wind blowing into the right hander, wasn’t getting it to swing but was just hitting the perfect spot, got one to kick up and almost gloved one of the batsmen.

Second spell I was from the other end and managed to find a fair bit of away swing for a 15 over old white 4 piece. Bowled even more accurately than my first spell and just hung the ball on 4/5th stump on a good length. As you’ll see in the replay they were having trouble hitting it.

Was happy with the wicket too. Batsman was something like 10(10), so somewhat set, charged me first ball, big outside edge into a gap at point. Next ball he charged me again but I bowled an off cutter at his hip that he missed. And then bowled an effort ball back on the bread and butter line and length, he ran past it and our severely hungover and sleep deprived wicketkeeper/captain was tidy behind the stumps.

This was easily both the fastest and most controlled I’ve bowled in a game. Looking back on the video, other than my first few balls, I’m really happy with how my energy was flowing through the crease. I think I just need to find that little bit of something inside me to get going properly. It’s something close to anger, but I’m not actually angry. I guess that’s just what you call determination.

I'll go along with that. But I know you can do better as you are sacrificing some pace with iffy footwork at release point. Try extending your front leg just before release, your other leg will naturally follow and so will the added pace. At first you will lose some accuracy but that is something you have to work out for yourself. Perhaps practice all this at training as your coach may wrap you over the knuckles if suddenly you are spraying the pill and leaking runs in a match.

It might not show a whole lot in that match but I have only just started to focus on jump and gathering properly instead of just running through the crease. This is something our coach/team manager mentioned to me last week.

It’s definitely something for training though.

I’ll also add that my front foot landing is something I’ve always been haunted by trying to bowl pace. For some reason I always land on my toe instead of my heel and can only change it by slowing down my action a bunch and really concentrating on landing on my heel. This toe landing makes my foot rotate inwards and splays my ankle.

I think it may have something to do with not jump and gathering properly, I’ll see if it makes it a more natural heel landing for me. Either way that’ll be my next target after I sort out my jump and gather.

Got openly praised on how much my batting has improved by the club president while he was reading out selections last night.

Can’t wait to bat at 9 again for both games this weekend.
