If they merge they will not scrap turf They will have both comps running. which will mean any clubs in your comp who wsh to play turf can do so and the rest will remain in matting so they will almost be like 2 seperate comps A-Turf down to maybe D or E turf. Then the same for mats. It would be interesting how the determined the initial A grade teams if they did merge. Say for example it was a 10 team comp would they pick the 5 clubs from each comp based on ladder positions this year or would they base it on overall history of clubs. If done by ladder positions you would see "strong" clubs like St francis and West Coburg missing out to teams that have had exceptional seasons as opposed to long term success like the 2 clubs mentioned. Very interesting but they would have to do it that way I would say and base it on ladder positions.aussiefan;210662 said:they might aswell merge the comps at the end of this year it will be the best thing for both comps, and make a decent matting league
Schnauzer;210659 said:So why then are you so worried about any good batsmen and bowlers in our comp if you guys are going to pull our pants down next year if the merger goes ahead. It seems you faced the 'best' bowlers and bowled to the 'best' batsmen in that comp game and smashed us, so you'll have nothing to worry about.
What are your thoughts on our talent? What have you heard about our competition in terms of standard? Players? Etc
Was the comp game played on mats or synthetic?
How did Glady go this year? Finals? Who are your players to watch from our point of view?
If he can hold a bat he will play i will depend on how he feels batting at training you would say. They are not stupid and if he can't play they will not risk him. St Andrews had a sub fielder for him last week against East Coburg.wetdeck;210704 said:apparently st andrews in-form batsman neville taylor has slipped disks in his back during their last round game against east coburg...
the physio has ruled him out for 5-6 weeks, but he is very keen to play.
it will be interesting to see wether he makes any runs...@|

in reality who knows what comp is better I guess we will see if they merge Im sure there are great players in both comps
Glady have played in 12 of the last 13 finals series we are one of the better clubs along with Paccoe and more recently Taylors Lakes.
Our best players are john Markham ex north Melb Distrist bat and Heath Shephard who played in jika for years most famous for making 280 out of 330 in a semi over there.
Other gun players in comp are Paul Thomas Taylors Lakes
Cameron Hare pascoe vale and Clint McKays brother Scott is also becoming a good player
The list goes on this a few

If I was the Socials, Neville would not be allowed to have any young bulls being a runner or a sub fielder for him.F.O.S;210724 said:Do you know the story about the old bull and the young bull.

Thats a very good point. Does anyone know the rule in relation to having a runner for an injury sustained in previous weeks. as far as I am aware the batter must run for himself if it is an injury carried into the game which it will be. If thats the rule then the socials would be stupid to let the guy bat with a runner and as a socials player it wont be happening.Old School;210799 said:If I was the Socials, Neville would not be allowed to have any young bulls being a runner or a sub fielder for him.

Not sure how it works with sub fielders either. Please inform me as to the rule if you know it

i'm shaw if u checked ur records u would see that tha socials slapped st mary's with a fairly undermaned side so u would want to do some research before u open ur fat gobDeano;210828 said:Good luck to everyone on the weekend.
St Marys have done well but Easts will give them a shake as their bowling is ok and they play spin well.
That is the key to St Marys team, trying to tie up the middle overs with spin and trying to force the batsmen to make a mistake.
whilst this will work for 2 day cricket, over a game lasting 4 days it coulkd be their achilles heal.
Thay should beat easts but Socials vs St Andrews is the key game.
If socials win, St Marys win the flag after close semi win.
If St Andrews win they will beat St Marys.
St Marys would be hoping for a Socials win because of the two sides that is who i would rather play. Plus the fact they beat them outright during the year, not withstanding they have picked up a bat and and a bowler since.

All says for a good finals series and congradulations to all that made it and best wishes to all concerned in the finals(a little tongue in cheek)
Great finals atmosphere at Brierley on Saturday with the result going down to the wire with so many senario's in the making till the final result.
My tips for the semi's
Hopefully the Saints will be with us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Socials defeated St mary's in Round 2 convincingly only losing late wickets 2 or 3 in the last 5 runs to make the st mary's defeat credible. This was the first game of the season as round 1 was R/S. A lot has happened since then and St Mary's would have grown in confidence since then will be 2 completely different teams as Socials have 3 or 4 different players and st mary's are more confident in their ability. Although that being said neither team is i the grand final yet and are both a long way from that gameDeano;210900 said:Thats whom i was talking about.
