Re: Pakistan in Australia

Roebuck has put the ABC computer out of order by spilling coffee on it, obviously at cambridge they were allowed food and drink into the computer labs.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I usually spill water/beer on mine, just ordered a water resistant one ;)

It's finally come back on WIN, don't like the score much though.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

In fairness the bowlers have been top class. Hussey got a peach, Watson got himself out while Katich was perhaps a bit unlucky with his LBW but these days with Hawkeye that is out.

It is a great test wicket, and in fairness, the bowlers are high class as well.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I know luck is part of cricket, and we can talk about "what if's" forever. But that catch dropped off Ponting was a dead-set sitter and he should have been out, on the hook, for a duck.

I hope he goes on to make 100 because I like him and have been waiting to see him in full flight again for so long. Once again though, we are not being made to pay for our shortcomings and a 3-0 series scoreline will once again mask our true level of performance.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Just saw the replay of the dropped catch of Ponting, unbelievable. Have these turkeys ever even been passable in the field? Afridi may be a slogger but at least he can field and is good with the ball.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Nice our Captain and Vice Captain both have made their tons is that the first century for both players this summer?

I know it's Clarke's but is it Ponting's too I have a feeling it might be.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Yep, that's Ponting's first as well - since England six months ago.

Miandad was a good ground fielder. Their past superstars such as Imran & Akram could catch a ball perhaps, but no-one stands out as being brilliant in the field. Obviously not a priority of theirs.

Come to think of it, they struggle throughout history for great wicketkeepers as well.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Ponting 130, Clarke 109.

Brilliant partnership. Looked shaky at the start to some excellent bowling, but that is the making of great players to be able to withstand it and put on a record partnership.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Ponting declares 8/519 at the familiar position with either Johnson or Hauritz getting out (this time Johnson) and not wanting to see his fast bowlers get into trouble.

Really good innings by the Australians. What a difference one catch makes. If that catch was held I think Pakistan would be chasing 220.

But that's cricket, doesn't matter how you make the runs, as long as you get there in the end.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I guess if you take away that partnership, there's not much left, but you never know with a "what if" like that. Perhaps North might have been able to get stuck in a lot earlier and bat with even more purpose to build another significant innings. Poor ************ can't get a good run at it. He needs the luck others have had.

Don't look now Boris, that loathesome beast who can't bowl has just picked up 2 quick wickets!!!

Does that bring that up to 7 wickets in 7 Tests now? :D

This must be blistering form for him!

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Oh my god, I just looked at the scorecard after not seeing the last session and Siddle got a run out!

The guy with the worst throw in Australian cricket got a run out. Sad, sad day for Pakistan cricket. And he wasn't far out. If it were any other fielder he would have been gone by a metre I reckon :p

He's gotta be the team's best all-rounder, surely.

What batting all rounder? :p

When he first started international cricket he had to have a fielder relay his throw from half way from the boundary and he quite often made them run ten metres just with the inaccuracy. He's come a long way since then, obviously working with the wonders of baseball fielding, but he still has what I think is the weakest arm of a professional cricketer in Australia, with the worst looking throw I have almost ever seen. Plus he's not the greatest at the rest of fielding.

Sadly, that would just about make him the best fielder in the team if he played for Pakistan.

Save for the captain, then yes. Wonder how long until they notice they have to enforce it at the youngest of levels, not leave it until they are 22 before teaching them the basics of fielding.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I was being sarcastic.

Agreed, his fielding isn't fantastic, but he was picked as a bowler at a time when others were falling down with their various ailments, and he didn't let them down. The fielding hasn't cost the team, from what I can ascertain. I've not seen him drop a catch. He gets by. There have been worse.

You might be compromising on the quality of bowler if you worry too much about other aspects of their game, especially when it's not a glaring deficiency the team can't afford. Bollinger is a batting spaz, but it doesn't matter for now.

Besides, as the selection of Siddle & McKay for the ODI's would indicate, who else is supposed to come in at the moment?
