Agreed, his fielding isn't fantastic, but he was picked as a bowler at a time when others were falling down with their various ailments, and he didn't let them down. The fielding hasn't cost the team, from what I can ascertain. I've not seen him drop a catch. He gets by. There have been worse.

You might be compromising on the quality of bowler if you worry too much about other aspects of their game, especially when it's not a glaring deficiency the team can't afford. Bollinger is a batting spaz, but it doesn't matter for now.

Besides, as the selection of Siddle & McKay for the ODI's would indicate, who else is supposed to come in at the moment?

Maybe so, but he looks like Bradman if you line him up against Martin.:D

Of course, I just got used to having Langer, Hayden, Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, Symonds, Lee, Johnson and even McGrath - all fielding whizzes. I was proud that Australia had become the best fielding side in the world by far and for a while I couldn't remember the last time I saw a catch being put down. Just living in hope that Siddle, Bollinger and the rest of the new players are all going to work hard to make sure that upwards of 50 runs are saved in a Test match.

Just from the start of Australia's second innings in that last session I have counted 13 runs that Australia in the field would have saved that the Pakistani's let through.

As for the follow-on, I think it was the right choice to not enforce it. If Pakistan continued like their 9th wicket partnership did they could end up ahead in the runs and make Australia chase 100 or so in the rain.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

This wicket is unbelievably flat. I honestly think it is to flat when you factor in the lushness of the square and the outfield. This prevents any reverse swing unlike what you would get at the Adelaide Oval, which has an equally flat wicket but the square is often parched from the hot summer sun allowing reverse swing late in the game.

This wicket will stay flat for the entire game IMO, Australia was right not to enforce the follow on because our bowlers would be totally stuffed by the end of it.

Best try and get 350 in front and then declare. We need to bowling 45 minutes before tea on day 4.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I'd bat till tea, if we score well enough we could be almost 500 in front with four sessions to bowl Pakistan out. 350 is far too generous and as you say if the wicket is flat that could become too gettable.

Yeah, I agree with this statement. 4 sessions is enough and by then we should be 440-450+.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Australia have declared after they promoted Haddin and Johnson up to 5 and 6 and they contributed a massive 8 runs between them :D

It was the right thing to do, to bring them up.

Ponting had decided that he had the total he wanted, then just told Haddin and Johnson to pad up while the rest got ready to field.

If it came off they could have put on 50 or more in half an hour along with Hussey.

But it didn't, and there was nothing lost in it.

Good bowling efforts to have Pakistan 4/103. Long way to go to get 438, and I would have to say an Australian win is inevitable.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

First one-day game is underway. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat.

They have just lost their first wicket, Kamran Akmal skying a slower ball from Watson which was caught by Michael Clarke.

1/67 after 14 overs, Younis Khan is playing his first international game after quitting the captancy and skipping the tour of New Zealand.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Double strike from Bollinger, gets rid of Salman Butt who top edged a short ball which was caught by Brad Haddin. Then in Bollinger's next over it was another shortish ball, Yousuf jumped back to defend but inside edged the ball and watched it trickle onto the stumps to remove the bails.

3/138 now in the 27th over. Bollinger has 2/23 off six overs.

I like it to be quite honest. I thought you'd get it live cause you're in the country, Kram?

Re: Pakistan in Australia

McKay strikes!! He was pounished earlier on by Umar Akmal but he has the last laugh now. Shorter ball from mcKay is a bit wider, Akmal slashes at it but edges behind to Haddin.

4/156 in the 31st over. Shoaib Malik in.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Actually McKay had no trouble against Umar, he scored all of his runs against Hauritz

Hard to understand Pontings tactics here, after Hauritz was smashed he brought on the part timers yet then brough Hauritz back to get smashed again

Presumably he was saving his strike bowlers for the powerplay.

274 - very gettable you would think, though Pakistan has a pretty strong bowling line up

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. We will all cringe with embarassment about it one day.

I just saw something else ridiculous. After Aus won, the players came out onto the ground to shake hands (why they can do it at the top of the stairs I don't know), and I couldn't help noticing the interesting choice in upper bodywear Shane Watson chose for the occastion: the sleeveless "muscle-shirt".

Must have been feeling the attention being drawn away from him after a quiet night at the crease.:D

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Well maybe you should hit the gym and then you could wear a muscle shirt.

I mean, FFS, imagine slamming a guy for wearing a sleeveless shirt in Queensland during summer.

I know guys who get around start naked in summer.

Agreed, people are taking everything he does far too seriously. It's obvious that when people don't like a public figure, everything they do is blasphemy. I didn't see anyone complaining when Watto was spending time after the Hobart test with Shaoib Malik sharing thoughts and tips with him?
