South Africa in Australia

I don't think this is the solution. Katich is an upper-order batsman, he needs some freedom to make his runs. Dropping an allrounder for him is not good - our lineup is shaky enough already, and while his chinamen are fine for a parttimer he can't start shouldering a significant portion of the stock bowling overs. If we need to look at changing the Watson/Symonds option then we should be looking at bowlers who can bat, not the other way around. Noffke is my preference if that's the way we go, but I think Watto/Symo will come good when they're fully fit..

If you want a bowling all rounder then perhaps watson is the go. Noffke is another option but I liked watson's bowling in india, worked very hard and got the old ball to move. But right now we are willing to play symonds as a pure batsman, he bowled as a part timer yesterday. On a spinning wicket perhaps a specialist batsman who can bowl part time spin is of more value then a watson. Remember that we have batted 6 plus a wicket keeper for years and it's only now we don't back out 4 prong attack that we look at average all rounders. The reason I suggest katich is because he comes across as a steadier, reminding me of tugger. Also allows a long term partnership or two in form batsman to open for us. That or bring in an opener and a north/hussey to bat at 6 and bowl some part timers. dave got a nice 100 yesterday.

I would like to see Katich stay at the top with Jaques. Until Phil is phit again, blood Rogers. Hughes is a sensational talent but he will get his chance later..
not sure why phil gets first dibs, IMO his injury puts him back behind the in form rogers and hughes. Thats half the problem we have, we select players on name value, not form. Thats fine when they are in the team already but selecting an out of form symonds has got us to this stage of the series.

Largely agreed, with the proviso that I'd prefer Krezja to Hauritz if he can rein in the runs. A spinner with some teeth who can take wickets is pretty important for all matches (not just spinning tops) and neither Hauritz or Symonds is that man..

I believe krezja works well if it's a turner and the bounce is up and down. But leaks to many runs if the surface is half decient. Hauritz gives you a stopper and will allow the other bowlers to strike. It's a balance.

I think this is a fantasy at this point. Ponting is already a modern legend as a batsman, but I think we'll be knocked over within the first hour tomorrow for a very exciting run chase.

The way this series has gone I could see us leveling it.... hell who needs an all rounder when johno is doing a good job. Makes the other batsman look a little bad!

Bad luck Punter!

Only way now is South Africa choke it up chasing.

And I can't see that happening, unless we add another 50+ onto our current score.

"The fans have started to stream out after Ponting's dismissal," says our man at the MCG, Brydon Coverdale "Maybe they were waiting for the century and are all just going to get more beers. More likely they're so disillusioned they're heading home to beat the traffic.

ITSTL.

Four from Johnson. Superb.
