South Africa tour England

Re: South Africa tour England

All depends on the first couple of hours this morning. The match situation is that England need 20 wickets, South Africa really need to bat out the best part of 3 days.

If England get into them this morning and get 3 before lunch, it'll be in their favour.

The weather is ok for the next few days (or so I'm told), so, it may play a part but not that much of one (not forgetting the drainage system at Lord's etc).

Re: South Africa tour England

Two quick wickets for England, of Smith and Amla. I thought South Africa would have performed better than they have in both bowling and batting.

Re: South Africa tour England

South Africa are in a lot of trouble. Prince and De Villers need to put at least a double century stand as there's only Boucher to follow.

Added 1 hour(s), 38 minute(s) and 4 second(s) later...

Looks like SA will be following on. Only the weather can save them now.

Re: South Africa tour England

South Africa arent performing anything like I thought they would. Hopefully they will have a better second innings(I bet most of you guys would like a collapse:D). Monty definatly showed which team had the better spinner, GO MONTY!!

Re: South Africa tour England

Not a bad start for South Africa. Could work on the run rate though.

Re: South Africa tour England

Well they can't win the game, so they can go as fast/slow as they like. All they need is to not lose wickets, and as both Smith and McKenzie are playing well they look in good shape (touch wood). This will be the first and only time I say "I hope Smith continues to plays well"

Re: South Africa tour England

Yeah, I forgot this was the fourth day. South Africa should be able to save this match.

Re: South Africa tour England

Still slightly in England's favour, I think. A good day for South Africa but a few early wickets and panic could set in.

Re: South Africa tour England

I really want South Africa to save this test but do they have to go so slow?
Anyway I think once someone like Prince or De Villiers gets out there they might up the run rate a bit...:D

Re: South Africa tour England

They have no real reason to hit out and risk wickets, although I can understand that nowadays, 2 runs per over is going to get criticised.

Yeah I know its unrealistic to do that but for a neutral viewer like me, I just want to see some big hits or some quick wickets

Re: South Africa tour England

Once they erase the deficit they might attack a bit but its hard to say that since the batsmen to come are Prince and Kallis.

Re: South Africa tour England

Looks like it might be over :( Bit dull, but SA did well.

EDIT: Not over at all! Players back on YAY.

Re: South Africa tour England

You have to say that, while the South Africans batted well, a lot of the 'credit' can be given to the pitch. It started flat and just got flatter!! England's attack (apart from Monty) need swing, seam or both to be penetrative given their pace at the moment but overall I don't think England bowled too badly.

What are the conditions in england going to be for the next test and will they put out a more lively pitch will something there for the bowlers?

They are playing at Headingly which should be a bowlers paradise.

Traditionally, yes ... but I think the pitch doesn't do as much nowadays. There can be a good bit of swing if there's cloud cover, so the weather forecast could be crucial.

Bring back uncovered pitches I say!
