Related to sports/entertainment in the widest sense, although questionable as such, it had a positive effect, happened in Victoria, Melbourne.
An exhibition foot race, a swimming race, a horse race?
Questionable. Was it an aviation feat such as the first commercial flite by Charles Kingsford Smith's new airline.

You mean the Redex Trial. No mate that was 20 yrs later. This race was far more expansive.
