India spin bowler Harbhajan Singh has been banned for three Tests for making a racist remark during their defeat by Australia in Sydney.

Also rumours that there will be a hearing with regards to Hogg taking place tomorrow.

The Indian board is going to appeal against the ban. I wouldn't mind if Harbhajan missed the next two tests if Zaheer was fit, but in his absence India might as well not play the next Test. I don't know the details of the on field altercation between Symonds and Harbhajan, but he deserves the punishment if he was guilty. Such a thing is not expected out of professional players. He is also representing the country and such an action brings shame to the nation and is totally unacceptable.

I watched it as it happened and it looked quite bad, Harbhajan was getting quite animated so was Symonds, Hayden and Ponting. When the umpires called Harbhajan over it looked quite serious, and if he did do it he should be punished as should hogg if he is guilty

Reportedly, there was no video or audio evidence against Harbhajan to prove that he did call Symonds a 'big monkey'. BCCI are going to contest the decision of the match referee on that basis. Knowing Harbhajan Singh, I am inclined to believe that he might have been guilty.
BCCI has appealed that Bucknor should not officiate in the Third Test. I think thats fair, since Bucknor made quite a few blunders that changed the course of the match.

But Tendulkar was the witness and he said that Harbhajan didnt make racist comments. Clarke was the witness for Symonds and I think everyone know that he showed that he was dishonest. The referee punished Harbjan so that means that he says Tendulkar is a liar and Clarks who didnt even walk after edging the ball to 1st slip said the truth. Tendulkar never walks but he is honest to not lie like this and if he edges the ball to 1st slip he would never wait for the umpire to make decisions.
They have no evidence so the case must be scrapped. If the match referee will make decisions without any evidence then he is being partial.
The indian team has also complained because Hogg called Kumble a b*****d. But they dont have any evidence like in harbhajans case.

Not sure about that. Where did you hear that Tendulkar denied that Harbhajan made any racist comments. From what I read he wasn't near Harbhajan when the incident took place. He came towards Harbhajan to calm him down.

It was shown on the news channels. They said that Tendulkar denied that Harbhajan called Symond a monkey. Well they dont have any proof so how can they punish him? If they have a proof then I think harbhajan deserves punishment.

You can't really believe what the news channels say. They want to make money so they will definitely try their best to exaggerate facts and enrage the common viewer.

i dont no why ponting keeps getting out to singh-harbhajan singh isnt anything special he just thinks he is.
and the indians are only complaining about the umpiring standards becuz they lost a match that coodve so easily been drawn and beacuse there losing there player to not sledging but ludercris racism he shouldnt be allowed to play international cricket ever again

How can you say that the umpiring was fair? There were bad decisions deifnately. If Australia got the bad decisions they would have complained. I agree that the player should be banned for racism but there is no proof except that symonds complained. if they have video clips of what he said then i am ready to believe it. How can procter say "I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Harbhajan Singh directed that word at Andrew Symonds and also that he meant it to offend on the basis of Symonds' race or ethnic origin." Beyond resonable doubt? There is no proof and still he has no doubt?

No one called Symonds a monkey except Harbhajan, which is arguable.
I said they are exaggerating facts rather than making up false stories or abusing the Australian players.

The Indian team didn't call Symonds a monkey but a part of the crowd in India did. That was an unfortunate incident.

Hogg has been accused of calling Kumble a B*****d during the last session yesterday. The hearing will take place tomorrow. I think if found guilty Hogg will be let off with a fine at the most.

I think its just terrible that what was promising to be a good quality, hard fought series, turns into a farce. im sure the likes of Kumble, Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman would hate for, what could be, their last test series in Australia to be remembered because of thes comments and some terrible umpiring.

I want Harbhajan to be punished if the appeal is turned down, because racism has no place in the modern game, but this series shouldnt be remembered because one player did something quite silly. Hopefully the rest of the series can be played in the right spirit

Yeah I agree with you. I hope the players can put the controversy behind them and concentrate on playing good cricket in the next two tests. I hope that the tour won't be canceled, BCCI has said that tour will go on.
