lost a few??? o'loughlin, kelton, klien, jones, romerill & kelly. thats a massive hole. have i missed anyone else?

i think the hill will be ok, seem to be very determined to correct their season from last year. & word has it, that cape is playing & they have picked up a couple, so i think too many people have them flying under the radar coz they are out of sight

yeah i didn't realise kelton was gone. i reckon they will still be higher than 9th though. What about North surely they have to be close to bottom. PC is meant to have retired which leaves hoppy and not much else in their team.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Kelly to thirds as can't train, Romeril to Brown Hill as a Knowles Hanger-on, Kelton to Melbourne with work, Klein retired, King retired with inoperable bone spur in foot, O'Loughlin to Buninyong to finish career, Jones to Ballarat-Redan as Captain (according to his clearance form) and Adam Ridley back to Wendouree. Point having a generational change they probably needed. They were a very old team in the last two semi-finals. Lots of the same players from premiership of 2001-02.

And Chris, Chris, Chris.........surely you don't think Point won't win a game. As an ex-Point premiership player I would have thought you'd have more respect for them.

Hill wont be much. Knowles isnt that big of a pick up. At least this year they will be more competitive though with a few inclusions. Wendouree will definately be the team to beat this year. Redan have lost a couple, but have picked up Pommy Jarad Allan. Havent heard much from Mount Clear. What about Coronet? I heard Wheels is coaching.

yeah I heard that wheels is coaching coronet too. he would have to be the keenest cricketer in ballarat i reckon.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

First of all Jarrod Allan obviously isnt a pommy.

And also to Bam Bam i have always heard he lives in his own little world and only takes notice of those around him, obviously doesnt watch how many Golden Point junior teams have made finals and played representative cricket in the past 5 years. Along with East Ballarat who as well have had strong juniors for a continuous period of time.

Its a shame Bam Bam didnt try and set Ballarat Redan up for a good future with their own juniors.................

welcome aboard big buy.....u couldnt spell out your true feelings for chris so we dont get the wrong impression could u???

obviously u think point will be still strong even allowing for 7-8 of their regular 1st side out, so with only 1 2s flag in the past 7 years (& that 1 was based on o'loughlin making all the runs), who did you think was gunna step up for the pointies this year?

Simon Allan shouldn't win it on ability but he has taken 40 wickets this season!
Heath Pyke will be right up there for sure. Bam Bam you would have to be a chance wouldn't you??

Now more importantly did anyone notice that Ballarat's country week captain Golden Point player B.Jones was dropped to club seconds (making 7) this week upon returning from leading the country week side to a winless last position! Golden Point again showing that they are deep thinkers of the game.....Enough said?

So tell me if I'm right. Brett Jones makes 30 runs in 5 hits after Xmas in 2006-07 for Point, is made captain of the Country Week side, fails miserably at Country Week and is dropped to make way for kids in form where he makes 7 against Naps. He finishes the year with 230 firsts runs in total including an innings of 110no, a 90 and about 5 ducks.

Why would he have any grievances about getting dropped? Why would he go to his third club? Why did Wendouree and Point clear him without taking it to an appeal?

Either way, word from the Ballarat-Redan committee is he cracked the ********s when he was promised their captain's job and Lynchy got it instead. I hear from a very senior Mountie player that he is the laughing-stock of the BCA.

The article in The Courier today looks like a bit of damage control from his great mate.

Don't get to caught up in juniors mate. They are big fish in small ponds. If they were fair dinkum they wouldn't be playing against the kiddies for their school, they'd play for their club. Hooper will never play cricket again - Mummy won't let him.

In Bambury's defence, he did coach the juniors last year and if i remember correctly they had 3 under 14 teams. that seems to be a fair list.

Jones and his mate Wakeling, who got him to Redan on the promise he'd be captain, were at pains to stress he wasn't playing because of his uni course, work and a new kid.

Why would The Courier bother with that weak story unless these blokes approached them with it to try and dispel the real story that everyone in the BCA knows about already.

And poor Brett also said he was terribly disappointed he had to hand back his Country Week captaincy after being given it again this year. Huntley, Collins and Jones have cheapened Ballarat representative cricket.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Might be an idea not to make comments on subjects you know nothing about frontbum. The inside stories obviously aren't your thing. It was never "promised" to Jones that he would be captain, and Gavin McGrath from the courier admitted himself that he had nothing to write about in the courier this week so he rang both parties to find something. If everybody cares so much about the reasoning then why don't they come and ask the people involved? You wanna know something, you just ask me and I'll tell you the way it is.

Don't defend the Bambino, he's done stuff all as a "coach" bar make an idiot of himself.

I must say Frontbum, your comments about one B.Jones are very one-sided. One would nearly think, given the fact you posted the detail of what was written on his clearance form coupled with the fact that you have almost justified why he was dropped, suggests that you play with Golden Point?

I have been thinking about this (you may know the detail) and wondered why would he sign a clearance form 3 weeks after Ballarat Redan announced their captain?

What cracked me up is the fact I heard he was to be the captain of East then Naps and even Coronet!!! I have spoken with officials from these clubs and at no time did he speak to them!! No wonder the Courier put that article in the other day. No much to write or talk about in the BCA!!!!

You do seem very disgruntled at the fact the BCA has been cheapened by the current representative side and leadership. Maybe you should have a crack at it. I'm not suggesting the method employed by the BCA or the people selected in the side is 100% correct but i'm merely balancing the discussion.

I have a few mates at Redan and it would seem a bit unfair to say they 'promised' him the captaincy after the last time they appointed and 'outsider' he almost destroyed the club. No doubt the appointment of Lynchy is a smart move and not only will he be a good captain, he is a good bloke. The committee are pretty switched on up there from all reports and no doubt they would be cheesed off that a new recruit had decided to have a year off for the sake of his career and family, but when it all boils down to it who really cares??

It is only Ballarat cricket!!

I suppose what the BCA really need to do is select the best players but need to make playing rep cricket more 'attractive'. All you read about is the better players being 'unavailable'. I don't know much about it but surely some of the best players are available for selection?

What raises my eyebrows is the fact that Kelton (arguably best bat in Ballarat), Klein (good bat), Jones, Shawn O'Loughlin, Glenn King and Brad Palmer and the guy Romeril aren't playing for Point. It seems like a mass exodus. Point are a traditionally strong club so why all the departures? The last thing the BCA needs is a another Coronet!!!!!

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Players cant last forever at the same time.

If i know these players correctly the average age is around the 30 mark? Surely this means that with the time unable to train due to work and family committments i would rather have a bunch of young players who are keen about their cricket and going to put in 100%.

Golden Point have had a representative for the last 6 years in a Central Highlands squad to play in State Championships. By the way they seem to be looking after their juniors we may see some up and coming cricketers this year?

Unsure about any premier league recruits to any club this year but word on the street is that maybe point have picked one up along with east ballarat?

any news here?

Let's hope. Premier league cricketers will no lift the standard of the comp. Bigguy you certainly know your stats. If I didn't know better I would say you were a Point junior coach? If so, you have done a good job. A few good kids there.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I will admit i am not a coach at any club but have umpired juniors before and like to keep a close eye on some of the players who go on to bigger and better things.

The things i have noticed are that East Ballarat, Naps Sebas, Golden Point and Brown Hill always have good junior sides.

This i feel will mean that in 5-10 years these four clubs will be the premier sides in Ballarat Cricket!

i disagree with the east bit. always have lots of numbers, & for years they played all their 'own' players in 1st grade & got smashed. it was only after they 'bought' thomson, simpkin, yates, irving & a couple of others, that they got success. they continue to tell everyone about their great junior program, but when you dig a little under the surface, alls not true!!!!
