Rito blokes I've finally got around to sorting the "Wheat from the chaff" and here is what I have. I've picked up all ideas and hot topics and condensed them into the following. Massive reading I know but some pretty good ideas in there all the same. Would like some feedback and/or comments if ya'll have any. I'll get in contact with Ron Jennings this week sometime or next, whenever I can find the time and get the ball rolling. Cheers, Waka

Ballarat Cricket Association - Zumper Big Cricket

General:-

• Sightscreens for the major grounds. (too many people park directly behind the bowlers arm, plus glare from sun of windscreens.)
• Need more Turf Wickets at club grounds. (Russell Sq, Progress Park, Alfredton) We would like the BCA to work with the clubs for this to happen.
• Comment made “I know for a fact that the BCA is the richest and most financial association in Country Victoria” We’d like to know if this is true or not.
• Where exactly do our Turf Wicket/Ground Improvement Levies go?
• Investigate entering a Melbourne District team.
• Home teams to be responsible for supplying all cricket material each week. (stumps, markers, arvo tea etc.)
• Player/Captain & Player/Coach reports, should only occur if Captain has been warned and is unable to control the behaviour of the offending player.

Competition structure:-

• 8 Team Competition, 7 OneDay games, 7 TwoDay games with a OneDay final for the top 2 placed teams.
• Play 9 TwoDay games only, rotating home games each season, longer Christmas break.
• No Sunday matches at all
• All OneDay matches, 18 week season
• Separate OneDay competition
• Lower grades to play more/all OneDay games
• Reserve Days for 1st XI matches
• Play Sat/Sun OneDay matches (2 different teams)

Twenty/20 Competition:-

• Need more teams competing
• No Tuesday matches (hard for training and drawing a crowd)
• Needs more advertising to the public
• 5:45pm starts are no good, too difficult to get a competitive team available to start so close to work knock-off time
• Extended notification, give us more time to prepare
• Twenty/20 weekend, Friday night kickoff, Saturday knock-out, Sunday Finals. Start on Friday night with a local “Celebrity” match, Gareth Hall can bowl a bit, and local Cr Des Hudson can hit a ball (draw a crowd).
• Make it a spectacle, draw a crowd and make some money for the BCA to put back into the clubs, or use the funds raised to properly support the best cricket association team in the state??
• Make it a requirement that at least all “Club” teams enter a side.

Country Week:-

• Financial incentives for players
• Staying down in Melbourne for the week. (Would it be hard to find a hotel chain to Sponsor the league for at least free accommodation of 15 blokes for 5 nights in February?)
• Fit the players out in proper uniforms, jackets, warm up gear etc.
• More support crew, trainer, physio (Clarkey would do it for a few bucks I’m sure)
• Don’t schedule a Sat/Sun game the weekend before Country Week.
• More BCA support/presence needed in rep games, spend some time with the boys and put faces to names.
• A full Representative fixture to all squad members as early as possible to help with availabilities.

Comunication:-

• Players association? Forum to voice opinions other than Big Cricket.
• Does the District game in early January really benefit Ballarat cricket?
• BCA media Liaison. Head of Players Association (eg.) to talk to the Courier/3BA/PowerFM/WinTV etc about the competition. Rod Ward and Aaron Nunn do it for the BFL (I think), if not then we should.

Impressive work waka. Am interested to see how these suggestions are taken, obviously not all are vaible, yet some raised are very good points. A players association would be great to get a voice over on a fortnightly/monthly basis.

Well, well, well. After banging on about here over recent times, our friends at Eastie land have done it again.

Sooking about 'we don't get any respect, boo hoo' & 'we sledge coz we have earnt the right coz we are better than all you', they have set a new low.

I won't use any names, but it shouldn't be hard to work the blanks out.

Seems that one of Easts opening bowlers Saturday (there's only 2 of them, so already the field has narrowed), has done the awfully courageous thing, & sledged the 16 year old opening bat from Nth Ballarat after dismissing him, telling him, get this, to f*ck off back to his alcoholic mother!!!

What a quality piece of sh*t this bloke is!!!

Now considering the quality backgrounds & pasts some of these East blokes have,
it's yet again an example of why they get no respect despite their success.

Don't deny it Irv or any other Eastie thats on here. It's FACT & you know it. Sledging is one thing, crossing the line & getting personal is another. The fact that this bloke holds a leadership role at your club speaks volumes for your club. Bet that everyone in the team had a good old chuckle afterwards....|@ |@ |@

ive said plenty in my time, but you dont cross the line & get personal about players families....plenty of skeletons in everyones closet, but the cricket field is not the place. thats my point, not the sledging.

Interesting that you say this cobber, if that is your real name, yet in your previous post you offer the highlighted asessment of individuals at east.

Would this constitute some form of double standard on your behalf? No, you're far too smart and well rounded for that.... Good on you though for having a try.... Unfortunately i couldnt find you a gold starrrrrrr.

Rumour has it, that indeed, the young lad in question had only himself to blame.... Whisper around the traps is that the kid, complete with advice from a well liquored woman, presumably his mother, decided it was best to see off the remaining overs by using his head, not once but twice. Well played from a bloke who had advice for most of the east line-up. Word from the northern oval is that to this day a resounding TTIIIIINNNNGGGG can be heard when the wind blows the right way.

Now dont get me wrong, i dont like east, however i do take exception to kids/mid 20's/anyone else for that matter who think they can give a mouthful without backing anything up. Good word from the east camp is that if this kid had any less idea, he could have been mistaken for a stray sheep from the trials two weeks previous.... Hopefully the young fella has learnt a lesson, albeit a hard one, and will now refrain from acting like a cock until he can back it up with, well lets start at one cricket shot and progress from there.

Has the lady in question reviewed this weeks Dan Murphys specials? Could be another 'WET' day at otherwise dry northern oval....@| @| @|

So as i understand it...its ok for older blokes to sledge the hell out of a kid and destroy him but as soon as he gives anything back he is a bad person...my second game of a-grade i was 14 and was torn a new one by a few older blokes...and i prob sledge less than any one else in the game!!! certainly made me realise that there are a great number of a-holes around the traps...u give it u take it...simple as that

2 Things, Well done Waka on your comments, but judging by some players turnout on Saturday, it may be more appropriate to not schedule the BCA games on the weekend AFTER Country Week.

The other comment is: I can't believe that people are trying to justify sledging of a personal nature, where does that honestly fit into cricket? Surely players can find something about technique etc to bag if they must sledge at all. Use some imagination but leave personal jibes on the sidelines for the crowd and others that don't represent themselves as 1st Graders in what is a high standard of cricket.

Totally agree with you there Cobber.

You should never get personal, especially when the player being sledged is only 16.

I bet the East Ballarat blokes would have felt like heroes after sledging the poor bloke.

Just out of interest do you condone what happened on Saturday Irv?

all i keep hearing on this forum is east this and east that... there was a certain younger guy i played against a couple of weeks ago that had a fair bit to say about a 17 year old in my team. not much was said about him on here. maybe because 3 of his teammates get on here.. i see some double standards on here and as much as i dont condone all out personal abuse on a guy young or old i do like a bit of banter on the field. there are guys on here that somehow turn into angels when they punch out a reply and it would be quite amusing to see who they really are.. ive got a theory on all you clowns out there that hide behind an alias, your as weak as piss.. usually the most hated club is the most successful.. i'll leave it at that..

I don't care what the scenario was, any sledges that make reference to someone's parents clearly means that the sledger has serious mental issues.
It would be interesting to see how the person (we all know who it is) reacts if someone went personal to him.
What a disgrace

Impressive work waka. Am interested to see how these suggestions are taken, obviously not all are vaible, yet some raised are very good points. A players association would be great to get a voice over on a fortnightly/monthly basis.

8 teams, I liek the idea.
Except one thing... How is the league going to inform Ballarat/Redan & Mt Clear that they will be extinct as of 2010/2011??

seems a little unfair that bowling a side out in 60 overs doesnt get u anywhere near the same percentage as makin 300 does...oh well can only do what u can do...

yeah a couple of those close LB shouts late in the day v Coronet that were turned down and cost us the outright would be real handy right about now. Of course the Darley boys being able to catch might've been handy too..............

You cant start blaming the umpires for the close shouts costing you a finals birth. You have only got urselves to blame for being in the position. Its quite simple, win games and it means no matter what else comes into play you play finals. I'm sick and tired of clubs blaming outside influences for costing them games and finals appearances. Its about time you take a stand and say we were not quite good enough. I'm sick of the s%*t people say is costing them games. Its simple once its boiled down, you either didnt bat well enough or bowl well enough or you were just beaten by a better team on the day.

Thanks for those wonderful insights Thickedge. I'm so much more enlightened after having read them. I like nothing better then having someone point out the bleeding obvious too me - thats really very much appreciated.............

well ur obviously in the finals then arent u...it only takes one decision to throw a whole season.

all good and well to be in there and saying that. when ur sittin in 5th position on percentage only, ur in a winning postion going into the last day of the season where a win guarantees finals and theres a strong possiblity that it'll be washed out its hard not to imagine what if...i mean can u seriously blame us?!

and i know that we could possibly have cost ourselves finals...catches win matches and it has probably cost us 2 or 3 games this year. Thommo, Cordo and Ringo have all probably had just as many dropped catches as wickets...so we know what we've done wrong and arent saying we play a perfect game ...simply saying that it could be a whole different story..

Now Sleeper how dare you talk about what ifs and contemplate what difference lady luck might make in such a tight season. Obviously you're 5th because you are useless. Don't make me and ThickEdge come over there!!!!!!!!!!!!
