Its a batsmans game these days. Western Oval should be renamed Concrete Colluseum as the outfield is as hard as rock. Point will win the twos for me with rowdy leckie to take 5 fa - just make sure you bat first !!! In the ones, surely we are due. It will be pandemonium when we win. 6/4 Fav that the reports go missing in the mail from the Mounties game !!!!!

What did you think of young Ash Gunn, Sticker?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Just thought i might give an asessment of one of the sides playing in this weeks G/F... Obviously i am not playing this week as we at east had a slight 'capitulation' when it most counted. The following is my opinion, given purely out of not having much else to think about for the next few weeks. So in saying that, here we go... and remember folks, I dont really care either.

Firstly. Dan Wright - Average day with the bat, looked very shaky early on, got settled and then was plumb LBW, no fault but his own there. Disappointing.

Sproules - Wouldnt be bowling a good length just outside off stump to this bloke. Is in such bad form that if he went to the beach to 'hit the waves' he'd end up missing those as well. Poor footwork, poor all round.

Sandwith - I understand he's a vegan. This would explain his reluctance to catch anything made of leather.

Scott - Weird. The type of bloke who'd ring cordo at 3am on a tuesday morning for a quick few hours of World of Warcraft. Hits clean though. Dropped early, disappointing result that.

Faulkhead - Well, bucking a trend, we have a former district 1sts cricketer who thinks the sun shines out his a***. We're all a little arrogant at times though aren't we?

Walter - Comes from Avoca, need i say more? Yes, i will. Hit the ball quite crisp. Unfortunatley, a guy hand fed on hard wickets will stand out like a 7ft tall african american in chinatown. Seemed a good bloke though.

Banwell - Known the lad for a while, good mates. Looked shaky then settled in. Good in the field.

Cordon - The bloke who'd answer scotty's call to arms for a quick few hours on World of Warcraft. Space cadet.

Leech - Bats low, doesnt bowl. Carries some solid 'condition'. As a skipper is as inspirational as a bowl of spag bog at your nans on a saturday night.

Branch - Will never be anything.... of any kind.... ever. Doesnt think.... ever.

Thomson - Good bloke. Gets the odd 'sniff' of that white line as he enters the arena. Upon first meeting you'd be mistaken for thinking he sells guns, knives and 'military paraphernalia'. Good bloke.

Ringin - Bowled some good hoop at good pace. Would have been deadly had he and thomo bowled from the same end. At the end of the day it didnt matter, but really, what was clouding the skippers judgement? Perhaps the 6 2kg bags of navel oranges hanging from his waist... Has a good future the young kid though.

Now this was a light hearted 'asessment' of one of the sides competing in the show this weekend. I would do the same for Mt Clear, however, given the chaos at the weekend im not actually sure of who will line up..... Give him THE CHAIR!!!! HAHAHA.

Im clearly taking the piss so before i am beset upon by you clowns out there, just remember to have a good look in the mirror, plant your tounge firmly against your cheek and laugh a little you uptight twats.

By the way, Waka, how did your meeting with Ronny Jennings go??

I wouldn't say exactly as the general public expected but I guess it's probably fair to say pretty close. He did clear up some issues and raised a few more. There was so many bloody questions for him to answer we were there for a while. I've been too busy with end of season club work and my actual money paying one to get around to typing it all up and sorting it all out for ya'll. I might wait until after the finals are over I reckon. The main thing to take away from my meeting with him is that most things can be done, it just needs to be voted in and supported by the clubs.

wow - compared to the neanderthal, half witted, no imagination sledges I'm used to hearing from East muppets thats actually quite witty. Still doesn't change a constant theme though. Even in defeat East boys have plenty to say.......... I sometimes scratch my head at how such a good bloke like Jez Collier fits in at that club sometimes. Anywho........

bit harsh on Scotty - any bloke who can go to the bar at JD's, just raise 3 fingers and have 3 shots named after him immediately bought over free of a charge gets a pretty high rating in my books..........

I agree Rider, I dont care if Steggles says he is only having some fun and trying to get a laugh............the fact is, he is sulking, a typical East fool being a sore loser commenting on good cricketers that SMASHED his side.
Grow up Steggles, nice little attempt at trying to deflect from the fact your bitter, by stating that you are just having some fun.

Only someone from East could be so cocky as to think he could take the mickey out of a handful of blokes he doesn't know and then expect them to just accept it and laugh it off. All after a hefty defeat. and to think for a while there I thought Irv was a bit stiff with that stumping. Now the cynic in me thinks just desserts.........

Sorry Steggles I guess that makes me one of your uptight twats............

Now Sprouler I hope you read this forum. You've been a closet East lover for the last few years surely now you've seen the light......................

ease up you blokes....he did get a hundred against coronet on a postage stamp (pls forget he got f*ck all against everyone else), so he is qualified to comment. not only that, he did admit that he failed on the big stage when his team needed him to stand up.

i actually think he may take over from yater as skipper. his bit about ringin & thommo bowling from the same end is ground breaking. why doesnt everyone just bowl all their bowlers from the one end? makes perfect sense to me.

wrighty, you are a human throw rug. & easties wonder why they get no respect? pity i missed the game. will just have to wait till the 2s next season, coz thats your level princess.....oh no, thats right your safe in the 1s, solely due to retirements, suspension & player disenchantment, they will have to stay with someone that will continue to fail on the big stage....

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Lets be honest, anyone who doesn't play for Mt.Clear is on the Naps bandwagon. And so they should be, great bunch of blokes, unfortunately the same can't be said for Mt.Clear. All fun and games when its going their way but look out if they're up against it. I'm sure everyone would love to see them get rolled in another grand final!!

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Bit of an activity in visualisation and common sense:

"Imagine you are playing a cut-throat semi final..... your young team is competing hard but need ongoing spurring on...... what do you say?..... nothing?..... hope not...... encourage the bowler?..... good start.... This guys a knicker, let's get the edge? .... good, build the pressure...... (batsman's been hit on the pads a few times - big shouts) Let's get this guy again? .........."

OK, raise your hand if you've ever said this last comment, I know my hand's up!! Now, keep your hand up if you think you should be suspended for a grand final.....

I wasn't on the field for the Jeffrey incident, but my understanding of events is that this was the general theme of things. I'm prepared to be corrected by anyone within 20 metres and realistic ear shot of the incident, but if this is a punishable act, then most truly competitive cricketers should be put out nearly every week.

Semi-finals and Grand-finals are a great challenge, but they are a super tough challenge, so players need to be motivated, focussed and pumped to be successful. There's plenty of pressure and emotion on all players AND umpires. I'd hate to see emotion taken out of the game and I think that needs to be carefully considered before wiping guys out for the biggest game of the year.

Considering the enormity of the match, would it be a bit embarrassing for cricket in Ballarat to have the focus taken away from the cricket and put onto the tribunal and possible suspension(s)????

Your dead right im bitter. The simple fact is that we had our opportunity and made a hash of it. I am bitter in knowing our side was well and truly good enough to take out the main event. It hurts like hell, i hate losing. It was actually painful to sit in our rooms after the game and think about the events of the past 2 days. It was a real wake up call to a hell of alot of people at our club that things dont just come your way. It was hell to sit there and watch the way guys like Tom Brand, who has announced it as his final game, take a heavy defeat like that. It was painful to see Jeremy Collier have to sit and watch from the sideline knowing full well that the bloke would give both arms and legs to be out there doing his bit. It pisses me off no end that i couldnt have done enough to help those guys see one more week of cricket. It makes you want to front up again next season and right the wrongs of last weekend.

Sproulesy would admit, if he's a realist, that my assessment isnt far off the mark. He couldnt even hit the gentle south-westerly blowing but hell, all the best to him, he's about to play in a g/f and we're not.

Its clearly obvious that you naps blokes are going to stick up for your own kind, as i would do so it really makes your thoughts null and void. It was just an insight and im tipping it will all be proven in the wash up - if not then you blokes have proved me wrong.

Either way, look for the eastie lads to back up again next season. We are keener than ever.

*It must be noted that the guys i was 'critical' of, i have known for some time (apart from leech, but well, we can all see what he brings to the table) , either playing with or against. So dont tell me who i do and dont know. Ballarat isnt Beijing.

I agree Rider, I dont care if Steggles says he is only having some fun and trying to get a laugh............the fact is, he is sulking, a typical East fool being a sore loser commenting on good cricketers that SMASHED his side.

wonderful oricle of a steggle - I'm so impressed that after 5 minutes in the comp you know exactly what Leechy brings to the table. A bloke who would admit himself is passed his best, has recently started a new business venture, has young twins at home and upon the request of his club has put his hand up to commit whatever spare time he has available to lead a side that for whatever reason is devoid of leadership. Is a 3 time 2nd XI premiership captain, has ensured that a previously young and inconsistent side is all pulling in the same direction and is now eyeballing a possible A grade premiership................ and thats what he's achieved in just the last 5 years.

For God sakes is there any East player out there........ ANY!!!!!!!!!!! that for some reason does not have an almighty chip on his shoulder!!!!!!!!!! Please contact this website as I am deeply concerned. Most of us are just no ones having a bit of fun playing cricket and accept that we are no ones. For some reason East blokes are also no ones but seem to think they are someones. I can't for the life of me work out why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great to read the demise of East over the past few days. Just hope we are reading about Mt Clear in the same context over the next few weeks.

A good loser is one that keeps his mouth shout.

Interesting also that steggles hangs ******** on someone for coming from Avoca. I think Steggles comes from Creswick, a town that is a living shrine to the mullet. Must be why he fits in well at East.

Also still some tension from Darley about Mount Clear. I think wise man said look out when things don't go their way. Well I think you'll find that things weren't going their way on Sunday and they won against the odds so a little harsh there.

What did you think of young Ash Gunn, Sticker?

I thought he bowled well and for a young fella who is still growing he looks a future prospect for you guys. He just needs to learn to make sure he gets to the top of his action before he starts delivery as he sprayed a few (errr ...but so did i !!) but its all a learning curve. I think he will be a good firsts player in the years ahead. Just remind him running in faster = bowling slower !!! Whats hoova on diving around taking symond like catches ...!! Unbelievable.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Mounties are worried. They're asking the Pennant Commitee for Don not to umpire the GF, in light of what happened in the SF, and asked Naps for support! Not likely.

Hopefully Jeffery was cautioned - 2 cautions means an automatic 2-match suspension. Damn shame if that happens.

The freaky thing is that until a year ago he was a keeper. He's going to be pretty quick. We seem to have a habit of turning young keepers into tearaways. Maybe because we have too many of them. Neil Lee was actually a keeper as a young bloke.

I saw Palms taking a blinder in the gully too. They get March fever those blokes. Actually the kids are calling Jason Kelly Mr. March.

Great run chase by you blokes. Around 1300 runs scored in two days in two games in the twos. Amazing. As I said last week, bowling is a mug's game in Ballarat.

Obviously the drought is no one's fault but is there any reason apart from flies why Naps wouldn't be considered as a finals venue for 2nds??????

BCA want council-prepared wickets to ensure impartialitity, regardless of whether the wickets are poor (Northern, Western) or if the grounds are dangerous dust-bowls (Western and City).

Think the policy will change next year when the Naps bore is flowing and the oval is a green oasis?
