Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Interesting that Merlot's beloved Hoops showed up at his Highness Reserve with two sub fielders and promptly got spanked by three veterans who showed them how to chase down a score. It is alleged that one of the hoop players who is not a bad bowler and usually takes the new ball away from the skipper (although it can be a battle) was not fit enough to have a trundle; but more than fit to have a bat in week one. Unfortunately the injury flared up again and clearly not fit enough to field in week 2. It must have been some solace to the players that sweltered the day in the field that the two players they replaced were relaxing at Hoop Reserve, and enjoying a few beverages and hob knobbing with some of the bankers and politicians down there at Hoop Reserve. It wasn't like there was much on the line, only their season. When the request for sub fielders was made my answer would have been 'tell your story walking lads'.Class distinction is alive and well down at Hoop Reserve.

Scathing. This sounds a lot like my mate Michael J Cove.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

To confirm/deny rumours, yes the Champ was definitely preferring to sit back and enjoy the cold ones down at Union while his teammates were slaving away on the desert at King George. Covey was also there while substitutes were on the field for him at King George, but instead of sitting back and enjoying the break, he was fielding on big Hurly as substitute for Ross Veitch who was rested on and off during the day after rolling his ankle during the week... he'll be rested this round, fortunately for the Carnegie Sth boys. He was not at full pace against us, but he was still sharp. There are certainly interesting times at Hurlingham with the new Union v the old Union. Surely something politicians are famous for resolving?

Interestingly enough on week one at Hurlingham, due to the new Oasis being washed out, the prodigal son in Con Pothitos came to watch his former teammates. There was plenty of backslapping and hugging on the boundary while poor Ivan was in the middle trying to concentrate on making runs!

Finally Merl, yes Bill Biggs is back. Things haven't been ideal for him at St Kilda, with the one week certainly not helping. We're grateful to have him back home at the very least for the remainder of the season.

Finally, the ANA Cricket show is now viewable on the ANA Home Page (Welcome to the Bentleigh ANA Website). Good luck to all in Round Ten. Big matches between West & East, as well as the ultimate 12 pointer between the Ommies & Elwood.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening Again,

Just finished watching survivor and not happy Jan.Thought I better elaborate on the BTC with one of the Jammos over taking Vinnie to reclaim top spot.

The former leader climb past Merl and the new Dad is making a run.

The oasisless Bott after writing off his chances weeks ago scored the top points of 8 along with a couple of others.

Some big games to tip this week and good luck to all participants.

Clock,

The Highway patrol are not Merl's beloved hoops far from it as the approval rating down there is as up and down as the Labor and Liberal party ratings. You seem to be very close to the action down there and must have been on the spot at the square leg club on Saturday?

Sugar

Thanks for the confirmation on Biggys and with him staying it could influence Merl's tips for the rest of the season. It is about time these district clubs sent back home our players when they don't want to look after them!!!

I hope we haven't scared off the GK as like a few before him, such as the pop gun they come and go quickly and it is really only the proven Melbourne Cup runners who can consistently last the distance in the BCF weight for age handicap!!!

Burgs

Got your PM but like a few before you, not prepared to reveal the mystery that is Merlot.I am not at the two clubs suggested and am still intriged as to why the visit to the Brick would shed any light on the subject.

Just a few hints

Played for a long time CMCA associated club
An all rounder who was a very handy fieldsman
Tasted multiple Premiership success
A Baby Boomer
Played in several grades including Longy
Played with/against with many BCF members.
A relatively wealthy man now
Known to drink with Archie
Like the GK still have a keen interest in the CMCA

Anymore would give it away

until next time............... vino sipping poster......... Merlot

Merl - couldn't help but notice it's still being called the 2009 Babylon Tipping Contest. Has the MJFWS finally taken it's toll on you, old chap?

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Briefly Merlot.Unfortunately I was not suitably attired to gain entry into their members area and security quickly ushered me out.I headed down to watch the old money-v-the new money and was treated with exemplary service.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

Uncle Mick you must know by now I can't spell and have no attention to detail. As I post this you will probably be in the middle of your big night which i hope has gone off well and you have made a quid.

Good point on the tissue profanitist who seems to have disappeared.

I see the new shipment of corks have arrived and the pop gun is reloaded!!

Clock

I pictured you as someone of satorial elegance possibly with a cravat not someone slopply dressed although I never thought there were any dress standards at the square leg club!!

Cowboy

I am thinking of attending the big function at millionaires row and wouldn't be out of place mixing it with the other wealthy types attending. Will the Beemer be safe in the carpark or will I need to get the chauffer to drop me off? I am thinking of collecting Archie on the way and making a big day of the $40 special!!!

Don't forget your tips as one of the Jammos and Vinnie battle it out for the Merlot Horlicks trophy but if we have as many upsets as last week the former leader may come from the clouds to snatch a late victory.

Good luck to all

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

Still accepting tips due to the BCF melt down.

Did notice in the umpires appointments that Barrack has been joined by a Gold cap multiple premiership player who will no doubt be elevated to Longy from Quiney shield and give them an arm chair finals run.He use to umpire while he was playing so he should be experienced.

The Merlot Half Bottle.

Some very interesting games at the half way point.A lack of information due to clubs not having to update my cricket until 10pm Mon night leaves Merl a bit short on stats, as I was in transit on the big bird when Jimmy's radio show was being aired.

General Bunting 'marshalled' the troops very well to have Omega on the ropes, although a somewhat rear guard action down the order did make the score somewhat respectable.Merl's beach boys to get home easily and empty the BBQ gas bottle!!

Bentleigh Unting with the Rolling stones name sake Richards getting a ton to leave old wallet Park with the job ahead of them. While not completly out of it it would take a big performance to knock off the inconsistent Uniting.

B's mob are within two good B hits of taking the points against the Judge's mob who promised so much but have delivered nothing.Let's hope the 80th birthday celebrations are better than their current on field performance.B may not even be required to bat unless they go for the outright and then B may get the willow flashing!!

The Golfer's are the leaders in the club house and may upset the tipless Brude's mob with a top order finally firing so much so iron gloves wasn't required to bat.But the way the panthers despatched slim's mob last week you would still give them a big chance.

The Highway Patrol needed a big 87 run 9th wicket partnership from the coach and last week's sub Covey to give the ANTs something to chase.A paultry 174 would have the ANTS optimistic and the factions will all have to pull together to get the patrol home!

The Jellies with a rare sub 200 score of 181 have left the door ajar for the millionaires to set the cat among the pigeons with finals just around the corner. While too close to call merl would like nothing better than the millionaires to do what B's mob did and beat the jellies.

The Bluff Rd Cup scribe has provided Merl with some info for his half bottle:

The oasisless Bott's mob had the scorers busy with 333 which will be well outside the reach of the ANA golden oldies.

Hampton Central in a real live BRC game against Uncle Mick's Best from the West have 259 on the board despite the left arm sliders procuring 4 for 69 will still have to produce with the ball as Uncle Mick's mob bat with the best on their day and can chase down big scores!

The purple and golds finally got their act together to put a 200 plus total on the board and the jellies will be a player short next week. The loser is off to play in the late great John Quiney shield and I am sure JQ would welcome the Jellies with open arms if it happens to be them!!!

Saul and one of the jammo's mob embarrassed themselves with a pathetic 82 and then let the inconsistent Uniting in just 11 overs at a run rate of 8 an over, stroll past them for first innings points.Maybe they thought they were still hosting the 20/20 big bash? The General Monkey Milner was back with 2 wickets while Doherty got 3 for.A big chance for an outright and a shake up for the final four!!!

Merl's own Cluden have left the factional Highway Patrol in a complete shambles routing them for 104 and then reeling off 2 for 45.the GG enjoying a rest courtesy of Hamburgler's judicary no doubt was able to have another quiet one or ten in the square leg club.Old man river John Bennett sensing a rare finals opportunity managed to sneak into the side after previous playing in the hit and giggle one day side.

Vinnie's mob's score did not make it to the paper as it takes longer to get up the highway wire from the RSL but I can report via the Woolnough Scribe after being 1/110 they succumbed to 194 and will need a herculian effort from Cruwys to get the gas back into the BBQ bottle and get the points on a traditionaly quick memorial oval.A photo finish predicted!

As Eddie would say we are in for a big week in football ( oops Cricket ) as we march towards a potentially great finals series.

until next time................. vino sipping poster.............. Prof Merlot
