Who will open batting instead of Andrew Strauss?

Micheal Vaughan will take his spot.

Looks like Harmison is fit to be considered for the first test but I just don't think they'll go with him.

Sidebottom, Hoggard, Panesar are certain starters with Anderson taking the 4th bowling spot?

Got to be really he's been bowling well all year and deserves to be in there on his performances. If it was possible i'd send Harmison off to a local club game to get some more overs under his belt.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Bopara gets the nod and Harmison misses out. Wise moves by the England bosses, hard choice but they had to be made.

As much as I love Harmison, you have to question his state of mind at time as much as his body.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka to bat, I fancy an early wicket then a 150 odd partnership before the second.

Lot of work here for England, need to get into Sri Lanka early doors, won't be easy batting on days 3,4 and 5.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

seeing that they have chosen to bat it must be a flat track. good opportunity for sri lanka will want to put the bad tour of australia behind them and get a huge score in the first innings.

Jayasuria out, will I be proved correct?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Both the openers have been dismissed. That was a very loose shot from Vandort. Not the start that they would expect after electing to bat first.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sri lanka are rebuilding the innings. Sangakkara is always the crucial wicket. he is rescuing them again along with prasana jayawardene. I think england can dismiss sri lanka under 200 they just need one wicket.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Well bowled england but looks to be a low scoring game. Cant wait for the KP vs Murali battle! Come on England!

Re: England v Sri Lanka

England were awesome today especially Hoggy.Let's hope we can get a big first innings lead of around 200ish.Would like to see Pietersen attack Murali at every chance he gets.We saw in Australia once he was attacked he was a different bowler, although they're different pitches.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Have to say that it was a good day for England. Hoggy was on fire during the morning session and Panesar picked up 3 quick wickets when needed.

We need to score 350 -400 to put the pressure on, like timedout (?) says, it could be a low scoring game so any sort of lead over 100 will be vital.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Have to happy with the first day performance, maybe Sri Lanka carrying a bit of an Aussie hangover?

Vaas's 100th test as well!

Re: England v Sri Lanka

It was the kind of catch that most players wouldn't even go for and just let past them but Colly is world class and went for it and it sure paid off! :D The outfield looks awful though and i cringe every time it looks like a player is going to slide on it. I can see an injury being caused by it!

Vaughan and Bell need to put on 50 more atleast then KP have some fun and the rest will follow. Being a Bopara fan i cant wait to see him bat! :D :D

Re: England v Sri Lanka

England have had a great start. Bell is looking in good touch. I think Sri Lanka should have introduced Murali earlier. He's only bowled 4 overs till now and the English batsmen are well settled.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

murali is just 1 wicket away from the world record!!!!.....sri lanka have a made a good comeback in this match..

Re: England v Sri Lanka

England really need to eke out every run they can now. A lead of 75 to a 100 could be priceless.

Muralia is a legend but I still feel that batsman give him too much respect, get out there and dominate him. It has to be worth a try, I mean, what's too lose, you'll only get out defending anyway.

I think there is a reason that his strike rate drops so vehemently (good word) in ODIs when the economy goes up and T20s when it goes up further.
